The cottage, surrounded by 30 acres of open space is only 1.25 hours from NYC. It's a great place for a relaxing getaway. Enjoy the seasonal swimming pool, patio, cable, WiFi internet and close proximity to Fairfield/Litchfield County attractions. There is one large bedroom with a queen bed, plus a fold out queen sofa in the living area. There is another small bedroom with a futon, suitable for a child. The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen area, with dining table. Or dine on the screened in porch, above the stream. Towels and linens are furnished and there is a small washer/dryer in the closet. As we are in the country, you will need a car. Some guests from NYC take Metro North to Danbury and have Enterprise Car Rental meet them. The cottage is well situated for day trips to state parks, museums in Hartford and New Haven and several wineries on the CT Wine Trail.
My time here in the cottage in the winter months was magical in every way. Every where you look there is something to reflect on, be in wonder about and be uplifted by. Just last week the stream began to run free from the snow and it is truly a delight. Don was an exceptional host. I look forward to when I am able to stay here again.
Don's cottage was probably more picturesque in reality than in the photos. We had a wonderful time at the cottage and Don was always there to assist and support us when we needed it, but yet allowed us our privacy. The house was very clean and well maintained. He was an excellent host and had milk and juice and a tart that he thoughtfully left for us. We would recommend his place to anyone and would indeed put our own friends and family there. The only drawback that we experienced was the weather and even the wonderful hospitality of Don Dempsey's could not manage Mother Nature. We hope to see the place again in the summer when it would be utterly divine.
From the booking to the check out, an absolutely first class experience. Don was super easy to work with. He was traveling when we stayed and still made arrangements for "Susan" to be our gracious host. We felt completely at ease on the property, which btw, exceeds the already beautiful photos. What a special place!
Our stay was delightful
and Don was very welcoming and helpful. The cottage was cozy and perfect for us. Thank you for a great stay.
Don is a great host. This was the second time we've stayed at his place, the first time we've stayed in the cottage. The cottage was the perfect size for our small family…my husband, our 2 yr old and I. It was warm and cozy, very clean, with the right amount of privacy and access to the host as needed. We would definitely stay here again in the future.
Don's beautiful property was our first Airbnb rental ever. We can unequivocally say that our stay was beautiful and was a wonderful experience. Don's warm hospitality didn't go unnoticed as he was extremely welcoming and helpful. The cozy cottage was more than enough space for my wife and I as well as our two children. The cottage was very clean and well-equipped. We stayed for 3 nights and we were thrilled to have been able to prepare a hot country breakfast each morning…we only had to bring our groceries. We appreciated having a kitchen which contained everything we needed and then some.
The cottage had central AC/Heat which was great and both bedrooms were very comfortable. In fact, it yielded some of the best sleep we've had in quite some time. The gas fireplace was a nice treat as well in the evenings.
However, the icing on the cake were the incredible grounds. If you look in the photos, you'll see a gorgeous stream right outside the cottage. It really was as close as it appears. It's literally right below the windows. The stream is stocked with bass and trout and my kids and I had an amazing time standing on the bridge, over the stream and catching fish. It was the kid's first time fishing and I know the experience will be forever etched into their minds. There are approximately 40 accessible acres to explore on the property and we spent some part of everyday walking though the wilderness and the various trails within the woods. Very very beautiful.
There was plenty to do within a 10-15 minute driving radius of the cottage. I stronger recommend visiting Blue Jay Orchards in Bethal. They have apple picking, hayrides and a great farm store with delicious goodies. Also visit Ferris Acres Creamery in Newtown for the most tasty and fresh ice cream, made with milk from their own cows. If you're the nostalgic type and want a little entertainment, visit Danbury Duckpin Lanes. A very family friendly bowling alley which uses smaller balls and pins. The place has a fantastic (phone number hidden)'s charm to it which we simply loved. There are also a great number of restaurants nearby for great, evening dining.
Thank you again Don for a very special experience. You will certainly be seeing all of us again soon!

My stay at Don's cottage provided me with an idyllic escape-- the singularly beautiful setting and comfortable accommodations could not have been more perfect. Don is a gracious and hospitable host, anticipating every need-- even stocking the place with scrumptious muffins, fruit and drinks. It was hard to leave.

Photography, jazz, kayaking and life at the mill are among my favorite things. Working as a commercial photographer for over 30 years, I've done my share of traveling. The best trips always involve meeting great people, who know the location and love to share their knowledge. And wherever I go, I'm always searching for a great Thai restaurant. As a host, I try and return the favor.
