The City of Refuge or more correctly Honaunau Bay, is the best snorkeling beach on the Big Island!
During daylight, Hawaiian spinner dolphins come in the calm inshore waters like Honaunau Bay take care of their young.
Dolphins are curious and friendly and they come to swim around you. This is an incredible experience of sharing the ocean with these creatures.

Kealakekua Bay with its famous Captain Cook Monument. The best way to reach this beautiful spot is by kayak. Launch your kayak from the Kealakekua wharf and paddle across the bay. Due to the calm water conditions, the beautiful extensive coral reef, and the diversity of tropical fish, Captain Cook Monument is one of the most beautiful spot for snorkeling, kayaking and SCUBA diving at Captain Cook

These are great places to explore and you will live some unforgettable experiences.

From December to May, you may catch a glimpse of majestic humpback whales. These gentle giants come to the warm Hawaiian waters every year to breed and give birth to new calves. Seeing these long giants breach the water is an unforgettable sight.
We can schedule for you a tour to spot these magnificent creatures. As guide take you to the best spots to observe whales playfully surfacing, tail slapping, or blowing spouts in the air. Regulations prohibit boats from approaching within 100 yards of a whale and you should never swim with or touch whales or any other marine mammals.

  • We had a great stay! Myriam and Alain were terrific. We arrived at the house late at night and everything was waiting for us just as Myriam had described. Also, Alain stopped by to make sure everything was right and asked if we needed anything. We stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed the space. It was awesome to be up on the mountain/hill.

We also went on a Manta Ray snorkeling tour with Myriam and Alain. It was awesome! I would definitely recommend it!

We would certainly stay again. Thanks so much!

  • The house on the Organic Farm was very roomy. The bed was very comfortable. Everything was very clean but basic. When planning your check in time for the Organic Farm we would advise that you arrive during daylight hours. The road is very narrow and has a variety of surfaces. Myriam was very pleasant and always available when we had questions.

  • A perfect stay in Myriam and Alain's place! The cottage is very quiet and relaxing, the location is very good to visit Big Island! Very well furnished cottage. Myriam and her husband are truly welcoming people who helped us in everything we needed. You can also eat organic oranges and avocados, at your disposal on the trees! If we come back to Big Island we would love to stay there again!

  • Alain and Myriam are very nice host. They were very helpful and know the area very well. It was very relaxing staying at the farm. Fresh orange juice every morning!

  • This is indeed the "tranquil cottage"! It is very quiet and serene. There is a very friendly cat as well! Myriam is very organized and provided great driving instructions. She also provided fresh croissants for our first breakfast. There is also snorkeling equipment in the house that you can take down to the beach. Would definitely go back. Merci!

  • We had a great time here. The place is a bit funky but a step up from the local Hostel where we stayed before. No sign of bugs or rodents. Sparse kitchen, no luxuries, but the water was warm and the bed comfy. I was surprised that there was another vacation rental below us, around the back.
The owners had true aloha spirit, offering food and granting any requests I had; blender, snorkel gear, boat trip.

  • We spent 11 wonderful days in this cottage on the hill in Captain Cook. We actually never met Myriam, but Alain was very helpful and nice to talk to. The house is simple, but has all the essentials. The surroundings are very quiet, you only hear the animals that live there or pass by. The street to the house is definitely interesting as it passes through a local neighbourhood and some tropical nature. An SUV is recommended. We would stay there again, if we ever come back to Hawaii.

  • The cottage is in a really cool location above Captain Cook. You definitely feel like you're staying far away from civilization and the nights are really quiet, but it's only a 10 minute drive downhill. It's also really close to the best snorkeling places on the Island (Kealakekua Bay and Place of Refuge). The cottage had everything we needed. I would say the only downside is there wasn't much hot water in the evening. So if you like showering late and it's winter, that might be an issue.

  • We stayed at the cottage for 2 weeks with our 3 year old and 6 month old. Our 3 year old loved the farm and feeding the goats our veggie scraps and picking oranges and spottng all the different fruit tres on the exciting drive there (fine with a normal car if driven slowly). Alain and Myriam were very accommodating and even found a high chair and an exersaucer for our kids to use which was very useful. They provided coffee and fruit from the farm too which was great. It's true that the water pressure is low and it took an awful long time to even half fill the bath wih warm water. Overall we loved staying at this rustic cottage and it was a peaceful cool place to come back too after a long hot day out and about.

  • We enjoyed it very much to stay in this farm house up the hill. We had everything we could have wished for and we even get snorkeling gear to use from Myriam for free. A very relaxing and enjoing stay in this wonderfull area. We highly recommend this place!!
