I rent a clean and simple apartment, located in the antique center of Naples, in the South of Italy. Naples, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, famous for its typical food, the pizza, of course, and for its coffee, one of the traditions of Naples. If you want to see the real Italy, don't miss Naples!!!
The apartment is composed of two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom with the shower and a balcony. This is the real Napoli -- for travelers seeking an authentic experience, living the city in a "palazzo" alongside quite traditional Neapolitan families.
If you want to stay "a due passi da Spaccanapoli", and don't want to spend a lot of money, this is the place for you!
Your host will be Walter M. He's an old friend -- we've known each other since 2001. He was born in Naples, and lives around the corner.
There is no wireless internet connection but the mobile signal is very strong as it's almost the top floor. When I'm in town that's how I get on the internet. Try TIM x Smartphone from Telecom Italia, it's cheap, works great, and gives you internet on the go too!
Parking is not easy in the antique center of Naples. The apartment is actually inside a Zona Traffico Limitato (ZTL) which means "limited traffic zone". This is great for pedestrians, it's really a lovely place to walk around. But it will be very difficult to park on my street. There are some nearby garages.
Other Things to Note
Like most traditional Napoletan homes, my apartment lacks central heating. Almost no one in the antique center of Naples has it. It's usually quite warm, but when it gets cold, people hang out together in one room around the 'stufa' -- a space heater. Mine is electric, and is strong enough to keep the bedroom warm. The hot water in the bathroom works very well, so the shower provides enough heat in there.
VERY IMPORTANT: check-in to the apartment is possible *only* before 6pm. If your arrival to Naples will be later than 6pm, you will need to stay in a hotel (which we can help you find) for one night, and check into the apartment in the morning.
Please be silent after hours and respect our neighbors. This building is inhabited by traditional Neapolitan families so that should be kept in mind. Neighbors may be very curious about you and want to chat. They may come off nosy but they're actually quite friendly. That said, it's best to be brief, and if you leave them thinking you're an old friend of mine, they'll treat you more as a friend. That's the way things work in Naples :)
All positive!!! We had a great week!
Excellent place in the heart of the historic center. Perfect choice, if you want to see and feel real Naples. Nice, quiet and clean apartment, in convenient location – easy to get from airport or central station. Also special thanks to Walter – he is a great host.
Bon accueil en temps et en heure , brève présentation de l'appartement , malgré tout suffisant avec possibilité d'avoir d'autre renseignements si besoin .
Firstly I will briefly introduce myself so that you know what type of traveller we are ;)
So... My friend Camille and myself have spent a week in Peter's appartment. We are both young students (22, 23) and were travelling and visiting the region.
The appartment was great for young travellers on budget. It is not very pretty, it is on the fifth floar without an elevator. But the location is great, 15min walk to Garibaldi, 10 to the shopping area and 5 to the harbour, where you can take the ferry.
On plazza san Domenico, where the appartment is (almost) you can find many restaurants, trattorias and bars.
The kitchen has no washmachine, not many plates, forks etc... You can cook but it is not made for big meals and good food.
Walter, the actual host, since Peter lives in the Netherlands, is extremly nice. He made all he could to make our stay enjoyable and gave us at arrival many tricks and tips on what to see and the places to be in the area. Also, he called the taxi for us the day before departure so that we were sure he understood right the street and the hours... Our italien is very "mezzo mezzo".
In a nut shell I would definitly recommend this accomodation for easy going travellers with not too high expectations. It could have been cleaner (shower not tiptop, ground not perfectly vacumed but acceptable), there could have been AC, and the street could be "safer" (we have not encounter any problems, but Walter told us to be very careful. In the area there are many pickpockets).
I would and so would my friend, definitly return in the appartment if we get the chance to return in Napoli.
Merci !
Excellent value accommodation in a beautiful house in the heart of the historic city. We got a lot of positive emotions in Naples, because of the very convenient location of this apartment. Within 3 minutes there is a supermarket, 20 minutes to the central station, 15 miunt to the port. We found near several local markets. We never for a moment pozhalali his choice. A special thank you - Walter. He is a wonderful man
Very nice little student apartment, located in a typical neapolitan building in the heart of historical quarter. This is THE ideal base to explore the city ! The flat is exactly the same as in the pictures. If there are two rooms, it's also ideal for a couple. The stairs are not a problem and are easy to climb.
Our host, Walter, was very very friendly, and gave us lots of advice about the apartment and the neighborhood. In the building, neighbors are very friendly too.
Juste one small thing to change: the showerhead.

I like good food and good music in a vibrant city. That's what drew me to Naples in the late 90s. After enjoying the city immensely for three and a half years, my wanderlust brought me to Amsterdam for a year, and then to Valencia, Spain for another year and a half.
Nowadays I'm back in Amsterdam, working hard...
