History: Yurts have been a distinctive feature of life in Central Asia for at least three thousand years. The first written description of a yurt used as a dwelling was recorded by Herodutus the 'father of history', who lived in Greece between 484 and 424 BC. He described yurt-like tents as the dwelling place of the Scy thians, a horse riding-nomadic nation who lived in the northern Black Sea and Central Asian region from around 600 BC to AD 300.

Our Pacific Yurt is a modern adaptation. The compact shape of the yurt and combination of lightweight members in tension and compression mean that the structure is highly efficient in maximizing strength while minimizing the use of materials. This state-of-the-art version that retains the sense of wholeness of the ancient form while delivering structural integrity & comfort. Though generally classified as a tent, the yurt is much stronger and weather tight. The Pacific Yurt is a circular structure that consists of a durable fabric cover, space age insulation, tension band and a wood frame that includes a lattice wall, radial rafters, central compression ring and French doors at the entrance.

  • We had a great stay in the yurt on the Art Farm. I stayed one night with my 15-year-old son. The space was clean and attractive, the bathroom was just steps away, the beds were very comfortable and Lou and Annie were delightful hosts. The breakfast was nice and served right on time so we could get on our way. Thanks to Lou for directing us to the dunes to watch the sunset. It was beautiful. The dog, cat, chickens and ducks all added to the experience.

  • What a magical weekend 2 friends and I spent at the Art Farm Yurt! Lou and Annie were so welcoming, and had the greatest recommendations for things to do while in Arroyo Grande. The Yurt was so comfortable, and is really a once in a lifetime sleeping experience. From breakfast brought to our patio to the great hammock and all the sweet animals roaming the farm, this was the perfect vacation. I'd recommend it to anyone!

  • We enjoyed our stay at the Art Farm very much. It's very comfortable, and feels more like a cabin than a tent. The bed was super comfortable. Lou was a very nice and friendly host, and it was fun to watch the animals as well. The dog is really sweet.

  • We had a wonderful stay at the Art Farm Yurt! The yurt is beautifully decorated and super cozy. Lou and Annie were helpful hosts and their animals were very friendly! Generous continental breakfast of farm fresh eggs, fruit, yogurt and a warm muffin. Wish we had more time to stay and would gladly recommend to our friends.

  • This couldn't have been much more different to our airbnb stay in SF of a few days earlier, but it was equally engaging. Again, Lou and Annie were really nice hosts, and really cared about how we got on with everything. The 'Art Farm' really is an unusual setting, just enough minutes away from the tourist trail to make if feel properly different, as well as fun. We loved the setting, we adored all of the animals, and chatting over a glass of wine late at night by the fire pit, it was really peaceful.

There are a few places close by to shop for essentials, and we'd echo Lou's recommendation of Tanner Jack's for dinner, which is just around the corner. The dunes are close too, and Pismo Beach itself is only a few minutes drive away.

The Yurt was really comfortable and well equipped, warm and inviting, and the open air breakfast on the deck complete with chicken 'visitors', was certainly a first. Parking was secure, we felt safe and welcome, and we'd definitely stay again. This was only our second ever Airbnb booking, and makes two out of two for success.

  • It was a pretty place, but the weather was not that warm enough, my friend and I all feel little cold in the morning, maybe we are not really used to live in the yurt, and we have to go to another room to use the bathroom, the toilet was too high, I couldn't ..well, which is funny, but Lou was a really nice host, he was really helpful and knowledgeable, he told us all the story about his yurt and he made really good breakfast, thank you again !

  • Oh, you definitely want to spend great nights in his yurt. It is amazing and we will come back one day in the future. Love the yurt. Nice host.

  • My girlfriend and I spent two wonderful nights in the yurt and were absolutely pleased with our stay. The bed was SOOO comfortable and we just loved the fresh farm eggs and warm muffin delivered to our door in the morning. Lou and Annie were very sweet and helpful in suggesting local attractions and special spots to go to. We would definitely recommend staying at the Art Farm to anyone passing through Central California.
