The apartment is in a very nice place. Central and easy to get to. There is a huge escalator in a narrow role to get there, so if you are carrying much luggage better think twice.
We have scheduled the arrival for 5 pm and end up arriving a little bit earlier, at 3 pm. The apartment wasn't ready yet so we asked to left our luggage and went out for a walk.
It was not easily accepted by Elly and it caused us a unecessary stress moment. We were a little disappointed that getting two hours eralier was such a stress and that despite the late check in (as we only could get in the apartment after 5 pm) we had to leave before 10 am in our last day.
The apartment is exactly as in the pictures, with really narrow doors and many steps so is not recommended for elderly people.
I couldn't be happier that we made the decision to stay here! The photos don't really give you an idea of size but it was quite comfortable for the two of us and sleeps more. All the amenities are great and Elly does a great job of showing you where everything is and making sure you are comfortable with the apartment. The area surrounding the apartment has little stores and shops as well as some great restaurants and is generally quiet. We were able to walk everywhere as it is still quite central. Elly supplied us with a list of great places to eat and even pointed out her favorites as well as some interesting things to see. I would definitely stay here again if we were in Firenze!
My family (four adults) stayed for three nights in May and had a great experience. Elly was a welcoming and efficient host; she made sure someone was available to let us in as soon as we arrived, and provided a long list of places to see and restaurants to try. She was really bubbly and we felt at home right away, and then we ran off to try a few of her suggestions.
The apartment is a little darker than it seems in the pictures, but charming and historical-feeling. There are exposed wooden beams, a couple of steps leading down to tucked-away bedrooms, and massive wooden wardrobes. The large bedroom (with a loft and tiny bathroom) is quiet at night, and the traffic through the window of the smaller one isn't too bad for its proximity to the street.
The apartment's location is ideal. It's within walking distance of the Duomo and the other tourist sites, plus it's near the restaurants of the university area, and it's basically across a piazza from a grocery store. We had a great time and would return again.
Elly is very hospitable, and greeted us at the door. She oriented us to the neighborhood, as well as giving many suggestions for places to eat and visit.
We loved the area, and found a new and wonderful eatery or coffee shop every day! Great location for getting to all the sights, and close to some wonderful shopping, as well.
Be aware: the neighborhood is quite noisy late into the night, so bring earplugs. Better yet, go out and party with everyone else!
I had a wonderful stay in Elly's apartment. It was in one of Florence's best neighborhoods--plenty of life and very safe. The Oltrarno neighborhood is less touristy then the other side of the river. The apartment was beautiful and accurate to what you see in the photos, even a little more traditional/rustic than I had imagined (not a bad thing). The only downside was that it could use better lighting as it was quite dark and not much natural sun came in. I visited in october and the weather was only starting to get a little brisk at night and early mornings. apparently, heat cannot be turned on until mid-november as per city regulation, so keep in mind it can feel slightly nippy in the morning. Elly was certainly very accommodating. she responded to every concern in a timely manner, even when jet lag got the best of me and I locked my keys in the apartment :-)
Thanks to Elly, we had a wonderful time in Florence. The check in process was very easy. Her mother is very gentle. Elly gave us recommendations on how to discover the city and she gave us her best adress to go out for dinner. Her recommendations were all excellents.
This is the time in our trip to Italy were we felt the more welcome and were we ate the best.
Florence is defenetly the highlight of our trip to Italy, thanks to Elly.
