Our stay at Garden House Upper Residence was great! My husband and I, along with our two boys and adult cousin loved the layout and feel of the home. The surrounding gardens added to the jungle feel of Hana. Close to Hana town and very quiet. Like many homes in Hawaii, there was no A/C, but we were never there in the heat of the day, and the fans made it feel nice in the evening. We would stay there again!
There wasn't any welcome other than the open door and key. There was a garden description booklet.
It feels like summer camp lodging. A bit overpriced for what you get.
Detailed instructions on the location were very helpful, except we had a little trouble finding the place because the gate wasn't marked properly. Location of house is BEAUTIFUL and great for exploring the lush Hana area a little more. The upper residence is like a jungle cottage and we were lucky to have very nice people downstairs while staying there. I did see a cockroach in the bathroom, but considering the locale and openess of the space, it didn't phase me. Great spot to experience Maui away from the resort beaches.
The house is exactly as described. Loved the feeling of being lost in the middle of nowhere.. while you are actually close to all of the locations worth visiting around Hana (essentially all of the National parks around).
Full kitchen, open space and loved sleeping on the converted porch.. It is like waking up in a tree house..., while still having the convinience of hot shower and clean towels. Robert was great host - responded promptly and helped me when I forgot something valuable.
On the con side you are in the rainforest so expect bugs around (and maybe even some inside). Certainly pack mosquito repellent.
Perfect family stay-action location! Our family spent the Thanksgiving weekend here and loved the space! It slept six people plus a two year old. Although next time we might rent the entire house, this time we just got the top floor.
We had a wonderful time in Hana at this comfortable and spacious home! Lots of light, & great location. Felt like staying in a treehouse! Kitchen had everything we needed. Booking was easy despite being last-minute :-) Wish we could have stayed longer! Thanks Robert!
