Response from Marc:

Please read any of the other 25 reviews from the past year - almost all 5 star in every category from well traveled and articulate people - nothing is for everyone but I think you'll realize this review might have been more about the guests than any truth of the matter. I don't mean to be unkind but when they left I found they bought food but had stocked up cream and sugar packs from McDonalds. They seem to constantly focus on whatever they don't have or don't like rather than all the good they do. I'll respond to each point (the first complaint is a perfect illustration of my point about their focus -: there were plenty of perfect condition chairs and chaises - and everything well kept - but out on the far deck there were two nice wicker pieces that have thick cushions which sit on straps that are out to be reupholstered - the straps come out and while the cushions are gone there is no need to have them attached - and no need for these two pieces - but this is what they focused on obviously though they never asked. I rarely eat meat, don't grill and told Karen I did not know if the grill worked - it came with the house and I've had no guests want to use it - I tried to fix it for Karen but could not. So these two things made the entire 1.25 acres 'serene but not well cared for'? There is only one window that opens in the room - which is screened - and though rarely used (the A/C is usually on) in cooler weather everyone finds it very comfortable using the ceiling fan - something they 'didn't like to do'. We never have a problem with noise but one night someone must have been away and a dog barked in the distance for a while - Karen came to me to let me know as though it was something I could control. I have a rescued cat that can be instantly out of the house on request - an offer they declined. When they arrived I provided things most people do not request such as plates etc. and told them - as I do everyone - to simply let me know if they needed anything. The lemons - although fresh organic ones from a neighbor's tree - were in the bowl for decoration - not as a food offering. The suite is not set up or advertised as a kitchenette - but the bath is very large and has washer/dryer, microwave and toaster/convection oven, fridge and coffee maker - all on request in a little alcove by a window - it could be in the room but seems to make more sense where it is - I have had compliments on the setup but this is the first complaint. I have reverse osmosis pure drinking water and provided them a glass container/dispenser full of it - they ignored it, said nothing and left a litter of close to two dozen empty water bottles on a shelf next to the towels. I have spent thousands on water testing and treatment - the water is pure and totally safe to drink but it is from a well and there is a very faint hint of sulfur on rare occasions - not one guest has ever mentioned it to me nor in reviews (where guests can also give private feedback - Karen offered none). I always do everything I can to communicate and to stress that any need can probably be met - but I am not a mind reader - you just have to communicate. This was sadly a mis-match but I do regret anyone having anything less than a fully satisfying experience - I wish Karen and Harry only the best.

Response from Marc:

Audrey thank you for your thoughtful and gracious review. I wish you had let me know about the bath - I believe the irrigation was likely on when you found the low water pressure - an easy fix. The jetted jacuzzi/soaking tub is worth a little wait! I think your experience of the mattress was due to being ill - most guests rave about it - verbally and in reviews - even in the hot summer months. The mat you laid on is PEMF (pulsed electro magnetic frequency) technology which Dr. Oz has a short but great youtube called 'Dr. Oz on PEMF' if you want more info - I'm so glad it helped and that you felt better! It was a total pleasure to host you - you were a real trooper, sick as I know you were. Cheers!
