About this listing
La Specola is a beautiful and prestigious historical house with conciergerie service overlooking Lake Bracciano from the old and tranquil town of Anguillara Sabazia at only 40 minutes away from Rome.
Recently restored in 2014, the house is tastefully decorated with antique furniture and fully equipped with modern facilities (full HD TV 42', wi-fi in every room, air conditioning, Playstation 3, hair dryer, iron, etc.).
La Specola boasts 290 m2 (3200 ft2) of indoor space, 60 m2 (650 ft2) of outdoor terrace, 40 m2 (130 ft2) of outdoor garden and can very comfortably host up to 6 people. The property is composed of 3 en-suite double bedrooms, a spacious and bright living room with exceptional architecture and breath taking views over the lake, an antique fireplace, a very functional rustic kitchen, a utility room, a large terrace and a private entrance with an idealic garden. In addition, guests can enjoy an extensive selection of books in French, English and Italian (to be read on the chaise longue overlooking the lake!) as well as an original Erard piano of 1828. Due to its strategic location and its magnificent terrace, the house enjoys unique views of Lake Bracciano and is ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.
Interaction with Guests
The property is situated in the historical center of Anguillara Sabazia in a very tranquil pedestrian area and therefore is not directly accessible by car (guests might consider there are about 20 steps to reach the entrance from the parking). All main points of interest are very nearby at not more than 5 minutes walk: beach and aquatic sport clubs, restaurants, bars, shops, supermarket and parking.
The area surrounding Lake Bracciano offers a wide ranging list of indoor and outdoor activities, as well as its stunning beauty. There are numerous places of historical interest in the vicinity to visit such as Castello Odescalchi (Tom Cruise and Ketie Holmes’ wedding location!), pretty old towns and other UNESCO sites to discover. The sport facilities available range from golf, tennis, horse riding, fishing, biking, sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, trekking to serene promenades in The Natural Park of Bracciano. But most importantly, the enogastronomy of the region is simply exquisite and can be enjoyed in the abundance of local restaurants.
In order to make your stay unforgettable it is possible to ask for extra services such as: chauffeur, welcome aperitif, touristic tours (Bracciano surrounding or Rome), a cot for baby, cleaning on demand, inhouse massage, inhouse cooking school, inhouse catering services, inhouse classical concert, etc.

Paolo was a fantastic host who made sure that the transition on arrival was perfect. Paolo was also very responsive and sorted out some minor issues within an hour of being contacted, which was fantastic. The house itself is absolutely fantastic so clean and spacious with lots of information to make the stay perfect. I recommend this listing without hesitation for a wonderful peaceful stay on a beautiful lakeside location.
Thanks Paolo, we hope to be back again in the future
Paul and family
La Specola is a wonderful house with superb views over Lake Bracciano. It is spacious, well kept and offers a great base for visiting Anguillara. There are a plethora of restaurants within walking distance and some nice bars offering splendid views of the sunset over the lake. We did have one issue which was dealt with very quickly and efficiently by Isobella PeLe the house manager. It was exactly as the description states, the Wi-Fi works as best it can, the playstation was useful for all and the patio nice and peaceful again, overlooking the lake and offering a welcome break from the sun if required! Parking is as described, a 10 minute walk from the house and no problems. Off loading in the tight cobbled area was made easier with Isobella's guidance and checking out was again, swift and incident free. Train station is 10 minutes by car and provided a good link to Rome in about 50 minutes. We had a great holiday & La Specola was at the centre of it!
A beautiful home with a fantastic peaceful view. The town people were so friendly too. We enjoyed playing music and socializing.
Visit Ronci di Nepi Winery too.
Mrs. PéLé helped us whenever necessary. A lively time Thanks
Occasionally in life you find something special. La Specola was exactly that in every way. We were struck by the friendliness of the people as soon as we arrived in the beautiful, medieval village of Anguillara Sabazia. We were met and welcomed by the lovely House Manager, who escorted us up the ancient village centre and took is into this beautiful place. The apartment was superb. It is a much loved home of the family and it was truly a privilege to stay there. The flat was spacious, comfortable with the most incredible views of the lake from most windows. It was furnished with the antique furniture of the family but with all the modern comforts of today. Everything was there we could possibly wish for and more. It was private, peaceful and a true haven. There were three very comfortable bedrooms, each with an en suite bath or shower room. The living room was absolutely huge and very beautiful. Spotlessly clean everywhere. Outside a pretty shady garden to the front and a terrace to the back with the most superb views! The medieval village was stunning, with character and ambiance. But still well provided with excellent local shops, many cafes, bars and excellent restaurants. Spoiled for choice! It was a taste of real Italy and we fed totally at home there and loved every minute of our stay. We also received very comprehensive information in advance from Paolo which was greatly appreciated and very useful. One of the highlights for us was the lovely House Manager, PeLe who is charming! She looked after us very well and couldn't have been more helpful. We have been back less than a day and can't wait to return. Thank you!
We had a great experience. The apartment is beautiful, just as depicted in the profile. The atmosphere of the house was pleasant and relaxing. The town is lovely, but very quiet in the winter. Paolo has everything set up very nicely and the house manager Mrs. PéLé was very accommodating when ever we needed help. The communication with the host was seamless, as well. We will definitely consider coming back!
La Specola was a connoisseur's gem: an understated combination of rustic charm with aristocratic elegance. The perfect getaway for the discerning traveler who seeks to retire to an Italian, Medieval lakeside village in the comfort of an unassuming but sophisticated pied-à-terre.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The spacious and comfortable apartment not only offered stunning views over lake Bracciano and the medieval rooftops, but provided a tasteful interior that is curiously poised between stately and cosy. We found ourselves torn between exploring the surrounding regions and simply relaxing "at home", playing the piano, reading a book, enjoying the view, or taking tea while our children alternated between playing cards or the Playstation under the gaze of ancestral portraits.
The modern commodities were very adequately appointed without detracting from authentic European charm. Those seeking the sterile American standards for kitchens or bathrooms may prefer a Hilton, or to stay home, but La Specola is a subtle experience of European privilege and discernment. We look forward to returning.
