La Specola is a beautiful and prestigious historical house overlooking Lake Bracciano from the old and tranquil town of Anguillara Sabazia (only 40 minutes away from Rome).

The Space

Recently restored, the house is tastefully decorated with antique furniture and fully equipped with modern facilities (full HD TV, wi-fi in every room, air conditioning, Playstation 3, etc.).

Guest Access

La Specola boasts almost 300 m2 (3200 ft2) of indoor space and can comfortably host up to 6 people. The property is composed of 3 en-suite double bedrooms, a spacious and bright living room with exceptional architecture and breath taking views over the lake, an antique fireplace, a very functional rustic kitchen, a utility room, a terrace and a private entrance with an idealic garden. In addition, guests can enjoy an extensive selection of books in French, English and Italian (to be read on the chaise longue overlooking the lake!) as well as an original XIX century Erard piano. Due to its strategic location and its magnificent terrace of 100 m2 (1100 ft2), the house enjoys unique views of Lake Bracciano and is ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

Interaction with Guests

The area surrounding Lake Bracciano offers a wide ranging list of indoor and outdoor activities, as well as its stunning beauty. There are numerous places of historical interest in the vicinity to visit such as Castello Odescalchi (Tom Cruise and Ketie Holmes’ wedding location!), pretty old towns and other UNESCO sites to discover. The sport facilities available range from golf, tennis, horse riding, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, trekking to serene promenades in The Natural Park of Bracciano. But most importantly, the enogastronomy of the region is simply exquisite and can be enjoyed in the abundance of local restaurants.

  • The amazing photos of La Specola immediately grabbed my attention when we were searching for a home to rent for 3 weeks in the Bracciano area. But in reality, the house is even more fantastic than the photos suggest. So much space, with beautiful antique furniture, but yet it still manages to remain a cosy and very comfortable house.
First and foremost Paolo is an absolute gentleman. He helped us in many ways, from his great guide book of the local area and to restaurants etc, and also with recommendations for when we left the area and travelled a bit. He was always available if we had any questions and he made us feel extremely welcome in his family home. Paolo met us and helped us carry in our luggage (and there was lots!), and the extra welcoming touches - fresh flowers on the dining table, and a bottle of wine in the fridge were very welcomed by us.
The house has a great big terrace that gets amazing sun set views over Lake Bracciano - they have to be seen to be believed ! There are a number of nice retaurants in Anguillara and the sorrounding area, but what we really enjoyed was the peace and quiet of the house and the area. All the local villagers and neighbours are so friendly , it was really like stepping back in time! The village itself is beautiful and we loved spending our days on the local beach on the lake.
We had an infant with us so the calm waters of the lake were a great way to introduce him to swimming for the first time.
It was great having 3 ensuite bedrooms - and again I have to mention the views. From every window it is like a different landscape portrait.
La Specola truly is a 5* home , and Paolo is most definitely a 5* host.
I will definitely be recommending La Specola to my friends and family for a holiday with a difference! Thank you !
