Centrally located, this one bedroom apartment is ready to show you a true San Francisco experience. The neighborhood has a wide range of restaurants, small shops and bars reflecting the melting pot of cultures.
The Apartment is located on the second story of a two story building, above a popular art Gallery in the Tenderloin. When it's not rented for airbnb, the space houses international artists that show at the gallery. The space is ideal for 2-4 people, with two queen beds in the bedroom.
There is a large roof which guests are welcome to enjoy from 6am-10pm, like a backyard space. We enjoy lunching on the roof regularly and live in the second apartment across the hallway. The roof is shared, otherwise the apartment is private.
Because we also live in the building, we can be accessed easily for inquiries or recommendations. We also enjoy privacy and can respect yours, so friendly hellos in the hallway are fine and you can be left to enjoy your adventure.
We absoljutely loved our stay at Helen's Artsy Apartment. Loved the sunny roofdeck and the art all over the apartment. Cool neighborhood with great local nightlife and coffee shops just steps from our door. Be sure to get one of the salted caramels at Hooker's and check out Helen's mural while you're waiting for your pour over at Jane. And be sure not to miss the chance to tour the art in the White Walls Gallery downstairs.
Helen was a fabulous host and stayed up wait on our late arrival. We couldn't have been happier with our choice to stay with her!
Great urban experience! Loved the apartment and the roof top deck. Helen was easy to communicate with. Parking took a bit of patience but not unworkable.
What a great place, great location, excellent terrace in the back, cute cats, perfect hosts, we really loved it. Maybe a bit pricy considering the wear and tear of the place, but when we come to SF next time we'll definitely try to stay there again. Thanks!
Really nice flat right above the gallery, full of nice art pieces. It is not as neat as some other air bnb flats or as a nice hotel, but it's the price to pay for the artistic atmosphere, and since I don't really care for me the stay was really nice.
One thing should be mentioned: there is no door between the different rooms.
Helen was super nice and really helpful with everything, she lives just next door so it is really easy to sync.
Helen's apartment is really cool and stylish. The location is great and we couldn't have imagined a better way to start our day than having breakfast on Helen's amazing rooftop.
The apartment was everything described and more. Great central location to anywhere you would need to go and in a neighborhood that is representative of SF (non touristy). Bed was very comfortable and the apartment was decorated beautifully with art. Helen was a great host and I hope that I get to stay there again in the future. Thanks Helen!
This is a cool apartment in a cool neighborhood. The roof garden is lovely, the art interesting, and Helen was flexible about my arrival time and had a great suggestion nearby for breakfast. Location is good too. It's an old building so, as others have said, the plumbing could be better. All in all a good place.
Helen was awesome! The apartment was clean and inviting. She even went the extra step and put out fresh flowers in the living room and bedroom to greet us.
She met us on the street with a warm smile and when we asked for a good place to eat, she pointed us to an amazing ramen house just down the street.
What a great arrival into SF, friendly people and great asian food.
They we very welcoming as hosts. On our second night, they had a gallery opening, and invited us to join in the festivities. We definitely felt at home. You wont get that kind of warmth from a hotel. A very unique experience being over an art gallery in such a fun eclectic neighborhood.
Thank you so much for a great time.
Helen is really great! She was extremely friendly and responsive and even texted to find out if I needed extra blankets when the weather turned colder (I didn't, she had already provided plenty). The neighborhood is also totally fine, I was a little concerned before I arrived but I had no problems walking to and from the convention center and other areas both during daylight and after dark (I'm a woman in my 20s). The bed is also really comfortable.
However, a bunch of things weren't really working. The building itself is very secure with a locking security door, but the deadbolt on the apartment itself is just cosmetic (there is actually no hole in the doorframe for it to click into). Only one of the outlets in the bedroom works. The hot water on the shower cut out three times during a 15-min shower - it didn't run out, it just stopped working for a minute or two and then came back fully.
All that aside, I would still recommend it for those on a budget for the convenient location and because Helen is such a great host. I was staying for business and it was really affordable so my boss was very happy. But if I had been in town for a vacation, I would probably have been a little disappointed.
What a nice surprise!
Helen and her husband welcomed us with great attention.
The apartment appears even prettier than the pictures.
The selection of works on the walls and the ambiance make this flat an absolutely great place to live.
I higly recommend.
