Centrally located, this one bedroom apartment is ready to show you a true San Francisco experience. The neighborhood has a wide range of restaurants, small shops and bars reflecting the melting pot of cultures.
The Apartment is located on the second story of a two story building, above a popular art Gallery in the Tenderloin. When it's not rented for airbnb, the space houses international artists that show at the gallery. The space is ideal for 2-4 people, with two queen beds in the bedroom.
There is a large roof which guests are welcome to enjoy from 6am-10pm, like a backyard space. We enjoy lunching on the roof regularly and live in the second apartment across the hallway. The roof is shared, otherwise the apartment is private.
Interaction with Guests
Because we also live in the building, we can be accessed easily for inquiries or recommendations. We also enjoy privacy and can respect yours, so friendly hellos in the hallway are fine and you can be left to enjoy your adventure.
The neighborhood is vibrant, with a mixture of residential and commercial buildings. There are tons of places to eat and drink and explore without being too "touristy", it feels like a true San Francisco neighborhood.
Public transit runs all around the area. We are very central, everywhere that you want to get to in the city is most likely walking distance or a short bus ride.
Other Things to Note
There is street parking in the neighborhood which is metered from around 9 am to 6 pm, and a few different parking garages close by that charge around $25/day.
Helen's place is the PERFECT place to stay in San Francisco. It's very clean, the beds are comfy, the shower is hot and has great water pressure, AND there's a rooftop terrace! My friend and I enjoyed some wine out on the rooftop in the evening and had coffee and breakfast bagels from a cafe down the street up on the roof in the morning. Helen has a ton of cool plants out on the roof, and you can look down into the art gallery below and see people working! Helen was extremely friendly - you won't find a better hostess. I hadn't spent much time in SF before staying here and I was unsure about what the neighborhood would be like. I read some reviews that concerned me, but the neighborhood didn't feel unsafe at all. It's walking distance from Polk street, which has a lot of great restaurants and bars. We found street parking near the apartment fairly easily and didn't have to plug the meter until the following morning. All in all, you can't go wrong with staying here - I was completely impressed with the apartment and so happy that we chose to stay here.
Helen was a fantastic host. Morning coffees on that patio were worth every penny of our stay. We had odd flight times in and out and she was more than accommodating. Had a flight out in the evening and even though checkout was noon, Helen was more than willing to hold our bags for us while we did a bit more sightseeing. We used Uber for a lot of our destinations and they were never over $10 so the place is in a great location to most destinations in and around the city. Close to bus/muni/bart stops. Bedroom has some street noise to it but you are in the city, what do you expect? This was my first Airbnb experience but wont be my last due to Helen and her hospitality.
Convenient location for everything I needed (DELICIOUS food included), fantastic space tucked away where you wouldn't expect it, and fantastic down to earth kind hosts. Would recommend this place multiple times over and look forward to my next stay.
Helen was amazing. She welcomed us right as soon as we walked out of the cab and was so friendly even though our flight in was delayed. The apartment was great, with really nice art all over the walls, and a back rooftop that we could spend time on. The appliances were great and it was a very comfortable place to stay for a week. I would definitely stay here again. The only issue was the WiFi which was unfortunately not very usable for the three of us, however we were able to work through that and really enjoy our stay.
Helen was a wonderful host and the apartment was fantastic. The description was perfect, the location ideal, and Helen was super helpful in pointing out places within the neighborhood to check out. Staying at Helen's place was one of the highlights of the trip!
Helen's place is definitely a hidden gem. We had a wonderful stay! Great value!
Great place. Overall style of the apartment and easy access to the terrace make it a kind of bohemian hideout in the middle of Tenderloin. Helen is very friendly and it was very easy to negotiate our delayed arrival time with her. There are house cats that visited the place a few times and were super nice to us. I wish we stayed longer!
I am an Artist that originally came to San Francisco to study painting. I enjoy traveling, art museums, and spending time with my boyfriend and my two cats.
