Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
The Phoenix official Earthship cannot be compared to any other rental in this world. This home’s jungle greenhouse creates its own microclimate in the high mountain desert and is completely off-the-grid, exquisitely detailed and outfitted with modern amenities. The outer greenhouse features towering banana trees, grape vines, birds, turtles and even a fish pond. The inner living spaces are cozy and quiet. The Phoenix Earthship was featured in 2014 as one of Lonely Planet’s Top Ten Eco-Stays.

The space
The Phoenix is a work of sustainable art that has been featured in countless television shows and print articles. Besides the two bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and common area it features:

A teeming greenhouse
Fish pond
Birds
Food garden
Earthship-inspired chicken coop and run
Outdoor fire pit with seating
BBQ grill and outdoor eating and sitting area

All of which exist within the Phoenix complex, regardless of the time of year.

A cozy fireplace with water fountain, free WiFi and TV with Netflix are also available and like everything in the Phoenix, completely solar-powered!

Guest access
Please note that this is the Phoenix EAST side, there is a studio apartment next door with a private entrance that MIGHT be rented out during your stay. This is completely separate from this space. The yard and greenhouse is shared space but the greenhouse is only shared until dark to provide privacy for both groups.

The entire Phoenix Earthship is also available to rent out for groups of 5 people and up. Please message us if this is of interest to you.

The Earthship is located in the Greater World Community, the world's only Earthship subdivision.
Started in 1994, this Earthship subdivision is the only official off-grid subdivision in the world and encompasses 630 acres of rolling sage-covered mesa with a deep gorge and beautiful views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The sunrises and sunsets are special every day, and the non-existent light pollution makes star gazing one of the favorite activities of visitors and residents alike.

Feel free to stroll along the main community road if you choose (you will get a pass that gives you access to it), we just ask you to please not approach the homes- they are private.

Guests have access to the Earthship Visitors Center FREE OF CHARGE to learn all about Earthships. This will also be your meeting point to check in. A free tour is included in your rental price.

Neighborhood highlights

The Greater World Community is located 20 minutes from Taos. It is located about 6800 ft above sea level in a rural high desert region surrounded by mountains, providing a unique natural environment and views.

Temperatures in Taos can be extreme, hot in summer and cold in winter, but even in the coldest winter months the sun shines making it possible to be outside and enjoy the beautiful extensive clear sky and close-by attractions.

THINGS TO DO:
The Phoenix Earthship is located a 5 minute drive from the world heritage site Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, featured in many movies and awarded as Most Beautiful Steel Bridge in the United States.

There are two spectacular natural hot springs in the vicinity and Ojo Caliente, a hot springs resort, is a 30 minute drive away and has special low rates in the evenings (Monday to Thursday).

Taos Ski Valley is only a 20 minute drive away, offering some of the finest ski slopes in Winter and incredible hiking trails in Spring and Summer.

Taos itself is a beautiful bohemian town with much to offer: cafes, boutiques, art galleries and many dining opportunities make a stroll through the downtown area and the Taos Plaza an enjoyable activity for visitors of any age.

FOOD AND DINING:
Please note that there are no restaurants, restaurant delivery or stores located in the Community itself.

The Taos Mesa Brewing Company is the closest place to eat, about 5 miles East of us on HWY 64 heading towards the town of Taos and offers craft beers, great food and live music on most nights. See

Taos itself (15-20 minutes driving) offers many dining possibilities. Anything from Cid's Food Market (organic whole foods groceries) to authentic Mexican and New Mexican cuisine (Guadalajara, La Cueva, Toribio's...) to specialized and fine dining restaurants (Martyr's Steak House, The Love Apple, Taos Inn...), there is something for every taste.
