Home to several artists, my recently renovated 1887 horse barn/carriage house is located on three quiet acres in the beautiful hills of Morristown. Surrounded by twelve acres of undeveloped forest, the house is situated down a long winding private drive, making you feel as though you’ve come upon a sanctuary in the woods.
With its high ceilings, wide horse-sized front door and patinated concrete floors, I would describe my home as a blend of a modernized Manhattan loft mixed with the rustic and artful charm of a vintage country barn. I did most of the work designing and renovating it myself so I’m pretty sure you’ll find it to be a one-of-a-kind experience as well as supremely comfortable.
Outside, you’ll feel an instant sense of peace and tranquility. The abundant woods provide natural privacy and the entire house is surrounded by gardens, open lawns and patios that furnish all you need for a restful getaway.
The guest room is light and cozy as well as comfortable and quiet with easy access to the kitchen, bathroom and an adjoining sitting room.
In the kitchen, you’ll find a hot water kettle for tea and coffee. I will be delighted to serve you breakfast for the first two days of your stay and after that you are welcome to prepare light meals and snacks.
The house is joyfully animated by the presence of an affectionate cat and one über adorable and loving dog!
In addition, you may feel inspired to:
• Come with paints and create
• Write in your journal or work on your novel
• Indulge in some piano playing
• Cozy up on the couch with a delicious book beside the toasty wood stove…perhaps joined by Lulu or a cat or two.
• Bring your binoculars and explore the wildlife here and yonder
• Walk the nearby trails of Loantaka, Jockey Hollow, Lewis Morris Park, the Great Swamp
• Ride horses at Seaton Hackney Stables
• Bike the roads of Harding Township
• Mountain bike the beautiful trails in Lewis Morris Park
• Explore and dine Morristown and other nearby towns
• Discover the paths of George Washington

We are vegetarian and we prefer not to cook meat. The guests, however, are welcome to consume whatever they wish (meat or fish), as long as it arrives in the house already prepared.
We are eco-friendly: we recycle most everything, throw organic waste in the compost and are mindful of harsh chemicals such as perfumes, colognes and heavily scented beauty and cleaning products.
We respect this lovely quiet neighborhood in terms of littering and level of noise at night.
Andrea is a super host. Friendly, kind, generous and makes you feel right at home. Her house is gorgeous and plenty of space! It is indeed a slice of heaven away from the hustle and bustle, but close to everything you need. I'll be back!
I stayed at Andrea's home for a week to relax and meditate before I went into NYC and it could not have been a better experience. The way Andrea renovated the old barn into this artist sanctuary is nothing short of being utterly inspirational - from the sun drenched living room filled with massive plants and artwork, to the two wood burning stoves, the many magical little bedrooms and mystery staircases, to the perfectly private little zone for guests which has its own private sitting room. I felt incredibly rejuvenated at the end of my stay and was surprised that I actually got to have the alone time that I desired even with people coming in and out of the house. I loved talking with Andreas friend's and family, all wonderful, respectful, and interesting people. The woods around the house are great for photos! and her dog and cats are my new buddies :) Thanks Andrea!!! xxx
Aptly named, "Sanctuary," Andrea's home in the hills of Morristown was the perfect place to retreat to after the stresses of helping my elderly father awaiting a serious operation at Morristown Hospital. First, it was an easy 5 minute drive from the hospital, though don't trust your GPS as I did, which first directed me to a local assisted living facility . But I would have driven hours for the experience of staying with Andrea. The Sanctuary is an lovingly and artfully renovated carriage house... charming, toasty warm thanks to two wood burning stoves, with comfortable furnishings, the right mix of privacy and welcoming common spaces, and a true sanctuary from the world. Andrea's friendly dog Lulu and cat often curled up with me on the couch in the sun drenched den (from where I also saw some amazing sunsets and watched blue jays, cardinals, and other birds pecking at her bird feeders). Andrea couldn't have been nicer ...even sharing her soup dinner with me on my first night when I arrived obviously spent from a full day at the hospital. Unfortunately it's a long road to recovery for my father, but fortunately for me, I have a wonderful place to stay while I help him through it. Thank you Andrea!!!!
I have stayed at many AirBnB locations across the US and Europe, almost all of which have been wonderful, but this was by far the most relaxing. This beautiful recently remodeled barn is spacious and comfortable, and located in the middle of a wood lot on a hill, at the end of a quarter mile lane, while still being convenient with the highway (287) 1 mile away, and the thriving Morristown Center, with shops, restaurants, and NJ Transit train station, only 2 miles away.
I had a large bedroom with an incredibly comfortable bed, and a bright private sitting room with 6' windows through an adjoining door. Andrea was incredibly welcoming, so much so that I preferred to get take out and eat it back at her home rather than my usual routine of enjoying a nice meal at a good restaurant.
When I was snowbound for a day due to a blizzard, I enjoyed it sitting by one of the fire places, and two of the evenings I spent working late into the night in the sitting room, rather than feeling cloistered in my bedroom as has sometimes been the case at other AirBnB properties.
I look forward to returning in the future, either when I'm in the area for work or with my family.
Exceptional stay in a beautiful place with fabulous people.
We are local but don't have the space to host multiple visitors in our own apt. Andrea's is a perfect home away from home. We were spoiled with homemade bread, calming architecture, and great art. And an amazing shower.
We had a large group and asked for a more flexible rental than is obvious based on the available rooms- Andrea and her boyfriend David were very accommodating of our changing needs.
We had kids, unpredictable schedules, etc and just felt very at ease to be who and what we were.
The place isn't readily kid friendly, but by removing some coffee table decorations and bringing in some toys, the kids found themselves at home too.
We had a big beautiful dinner for 11 in the space on Saturday night.
This place is almost like a retreat center- an amazing place to bring a group, have an idea, have a reunion. It's affordable enough that you can just go when you need a single night away, but expandable enough that you can let your mind dream of the events/groups you might bring.
We're local and I look forward to having this place in our hip pocket for guests and groups. It's a real magical gem.
Everything about my stay at Andrea's Artist's Sanctuary in the Woods was excellent. Andrea is a great host . . . very welcoming, easy going, and there with info if needed. She was also very accommodating with my late arrival, which I really appreciated.
Her home is fantastic . . . very roomy, comfortable, and perfectly setup for guests. The area around the home, while a bit difficult to navigate because I was without data on my phone for GPS at the time, is beautiful, very peaceful, and quiet!
I highly recommend a stay with Andrea in her cool and comfy artist's sanctuary in the woods. Thanks Andrea(!)
This is probably my favorite place I've stayed on Airbnb. If you want to feel warm and cozy in the woods (in the middle of NJ), this is your place to get lost. The house has a ton of history and Andrea has done a magnificent job turning it into a home while preserving the original intention.
Terrific conversation with her family and loved the extra attention from her dog and cat.

Having spent many years being a mother, a nester and a DIY domestic goddess--cooking, baking, gardening, creating, designing/remodeling/up-cycling, raising chickens and other animals--I now hanker to add more travel to my life. I grew up in the hills of Ohio, live in the fine state of New Jersey, and recently travelled to Nicaragua, throughout California, London and Germany.
In your house, you will find me to be easy-going, friendly, animal-loving, quiet, clean and considerate.
I look forward to meeting you!
