This recently constructed property combines traditional Caribbean architecture with modernized amenities and security. Just 200m from shore this house has been designed for beachgoers. Enjoy the best waves the south Caribbean has to offer.
The property is 10 minute walk from the town center. Located on the last road in PV before Cocles, it sits ideally next to the best fishing reef in Puerto Viejo or Cocles. Dive daily for lobster or spearfish for snapper 300 meters from the house (200m to shore and 100m out). Walk 1 minute further down Cocles beach to where the reef ends, there is the best left wave of Playa Cocles. A handful of surfers can usually be found there at sunset.
Pool table, gazebo, bbq, two balconies, kitchen, outdoor shower.
Interaction with Guests
Can meet at the house or in town to escort you to the property.
You can hear the waves through the trees all day and all night. The howling monkeys, the hummingbirds, and toucans alone will make your mornings (most activity).
There is no public transportation aside from the bus. We can provide you with a safe, cheap, and always available private taxi driver. Travelers typically rent bicycles of golf carts.
Enjoy yourself and please be respectful.
Hans and his property manager Dilan made us feel very welcome. If any questions came up, Hans was 100% responsive. The house description is accurate. The wood used for construction is beautiful. The kitchen has a new stove and refrigerator. The house was clean and "bug free" upon arrival! The house is near the end of a lane. The lane is directly across from the ocean. And yes, howler monkeys were our morning companions with their funny greetings. The neighbors at the end of the lane have a youth hostel. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and kind. There was no TV (thankfully) and no barbecue (we ate out for dinner - excellent restaurants abound). We could easily walk to the beach, a grocery store, yoga, coffee shop, bakery, and so many restaurants...really, anything we wanted. We ended up renting a car to explore a little further but you could stay there easily without one. The house has an upstairs "master suite" with a half bath and a lovely "veranda" where we all hung out. The downstairs has a bunk room with 2 double beds and a twin bed. There is a pool table in the back yard with it's own building - very fun. Beyond that is a guest room with a double sized bunk bed and it's own full bathroom and small refrigerator. We had plenty of hot water (6 people coming home from a long hike or the beach). If you are lucky enough to come to Puerto Viejo and get to stay at The Surfer, I hope you have as good a time as we had!
Beautiful house. Great stay for a large group. Hans was really helpful and quick in his responses. Only down side was that there was no hot water and the water had a rust smell to it, which may be common in the area. Other than that everything was great.
Had an amazing stay at Hans place. He was super accommodating and answered all of or questions about Costa Rica. Never met him in person but his friend Dylan came and opened the house and showed us the ropes. Can't find a better more relaxed place to rent if your looking for surfing or just hanging out it Puerto Viejo. The house is simple but you got all you need and my pool skills increased immensely!
Thanks again Hans!
I enjoy pursuing my hobbies. I built a house in Costa for daily surfing, fishing, diving, snorkeling, gardening, and living amongst a natural habitat. I am proud to be able to call these my hobbies for life.
I have traveled the world, seen amazing things, and await the future with much anticipation!
