David is a wonderful person. He took time to answer any message and questions before our arrival, called us to make sure everything was fine on our way to his place. He welcomed us just as friends or family. This is what "Aloha spirit" is all about. All good and clear explanations and advices about his house, swimming-pool, spa, BBQ (unfortunately we had no time to enjoy these nice places, since there's so much to do and see outside!), town and all activities around. Nice and very quiet house. He explained us how to adjust the setting but no need: I slept like at home. Dave is also such an interesting person that I spent almost all my evenings there, talking and listening to him and his stories. On our last evening we had the pleasure to have David cook dinner for us (he's such a great cook!). Thanks again Dave and hope you and Margaret can feel as good whenever you come visit us in France! I will definitely try to go back there whenever I travel back to Kailua-Kona, Big Island! And I hope it will be soon...Mahalo!
Nice room and a great location. David was very kind and a pleasure to chat with. There is a nice pool and BBQ steps away from the apartment. The mattress was an air mattress but not like any one we had ever slept on before, it's very high off the ground and very comfortable, more so than a lot of normal beds we have slept on.
Dave and Margaret were a very helpful couple, they were full of valuable advice on where to go to eat and shop.
The bed is an air matteress but is very comfortable, you can adjust the firmness to your liking.
I would recommend their place to lay your head.
David's place was great. Excellent location that is walking distance to restaurants, beaches etc along Ali'i drive, or a very short drive to anywhere you would need to go in Kona. We stayed there for two nights and didn't really cross paths with David until we were checking out (his wife had checked us in), but when we were leaving we ended up having a good chat with him, He was very knowledgeable about the island and made some helpful recommendations for the remainder of our trip. The room was clean and comfortable. Great value for the price.
Check in was easy. The room/bathroom was clean and totally as expected. There is no wifi but you plug in the ethernet cable (I didn't need to).
David knows a lot about the island and can give you good tips as for what to do. There is also a selection of guidebooks in the room which you can use as long as you don't take them with you after your stay.
Overall, David was extremely helpful. He even gave me a ride to my next destination.
Great palce to stay!
Check in was easy and David made us dinner since we were coming in late. He made us breakfast one morning also. This was kind and very much appreciated.
David is very knowledgeable about Hawaii and is anxious to share this information and help you decide what to see and where to visit. Maps and guidebooks were provided and this was very helpful.
We stayed one week. The apartment was clean, though small. This listing is for a small bedroom and an unattached bathroom. There is no sitting space other than the bed and there is no TV so we only went there to sleep.
I also should have known to ask if the homeowners were smokers, but didn't. If you are sensitive to cigarette smoke, I would not recommend that you stay here.
The house is clean and the neighborhood is beautiful.
It is very convenient to the beach and the stores.
And you will have a private parking lot which is important.
The only thing missing is the hair dryer, but I still highly recommend this place to stay.
I had such an amazing time staying at davad's and margo's place there;) David is yes amazing cook and he knows so much about island, life, economy and politics and oh there are so much ppl can learn from this person!
The room is very nice and quiet(air bed is very comfy), bathroom is private and hotel quality. They provide you clean towels and access to nice pool and jacuzzi.
It's about 30min walk from the kona town but beautiful nice walk I did enjoy a lot.(It gets dark at night so not really recomending walking in the night time though)
Overall, I highly recomment anyone to stay at his place and I for sure will be back at his place when I am back in big island! Just because I want to see them and just because the place is amazing;)
Dave and Margaret were great hosts and the room was clean and comfortable. Both Dave and Margaret are a wealth of information and incredibly helpful! Capt. Dave was kind enough to welcome us with a little cheese and wine after our long trip. We were going to have him cook (after hearing about the great reviews) but couldn't get our act together to work with him, despite him asking! We regret not making that happen but it was our fault, not Dave’s. Dave helped me connect to the internet so I could work and gave my husband great advice on tour companies to work with for snorkeling, diving, and more. The location is great as it’s right down the road from the Alii Road strip with plenty of restaurants, little shops, and more.
The airbed is perfect – no complaints (I’m pregnant and would have never known I was on an airbed!). FYI – if you do have a lot of bags, try to pack only what you need for the room and keep what you don’t need in the car. The room was a bit tight for our 1 huge bag, 2 roller bags, shopping stuff, and my briefcase.
All in all great place!
We greatly enjoyed staying on David's place. Hawaii Big Island is awesome! David is a nice host and a knowledgeable local, he advised us a lot.
Thank you, David!
