The neighborhood has wonderful local eating establishments. Lola's, right down the street, is a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant serving delicious dishes from Spain and Italy. Venezia's on Carrollton Ave. has probably the best pizza in town while Broccato's Italian Ice Cream Parlor serves up cannoli, seasonal gelato, fig cookies, espresso and a variety of other delectables.

Esplanade Ridge abuts the Mid City and City Park neighborhoods. The Ridge is in transition with a lot of on going renovation . Although the restaurants are few in the immediate area, there is a CC's Coffee House where they serve real, hot, strong New Orleans coffee & chickory and a variety of pastries. Lola's is a few more blocks down. It is the best close restaurant, serving Italian and Spanish cuisine. Canseco's is the local grocery store. The deli department always has a variety of tasty hot meals and sandwiches that can be eaten there or taken home from 11:00AM 'til 7:00PM

Mid City, five minutes away, has terrific places to dine. Mona's on Banks Street has great Mediterranean food. Everything on the menu at Cafe Mihn is delicious. Boswell's Jamaican Restaurant on Tulane Avenue is yummy and Avery's, also on Tulane Avenue, has the best Po Boys in town, but they close at 6PM

The French Quarter is 2 minute3s by car and 5-7 minutes by bus. For the Convention Center, take the bus to Canal St and walk to the Center. Tulane and Loyola Universities, the Garden District, Magazine St., Audubon Park and Zoo are 10- 15 minutes away by car depending on the route you take.

Laminated city maps are available for guest use during their stay. Because of the cost of these maps, they are not free. Guests not returning their map will be assessed an additional $25.00 fee which will be deducted from the deposit.

Guest Access

Guests have a large private room with a queen size bed and use of the hall bathroom 2 steps from the bedroom. The house has cable TV and Wi Fi access.

Interaction with Guests

Most guests spend little time in the house because there is so much to see and do. I am always at the house for check in and check out but am frequently out during the day. As a licensed tour guide, I only recommend activities I know to be true and genuine. I am always available by phone should any problems arise.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is called Esplanade Ridge because of the main boulevard. At one end is the Mississippi River and the French Quarter after 12 short city blocks; the other direction takes you to City Park, the NOMA Art Museum, the Sculpture Garden and all of the other fun activities in City Park. The Esplanade bus goes from one end to the other
and connects to other bus lines and other parts of the city.
Esplanade Ridge hosts Jazz Fest at the Fair
Grounds in the spring, Boogaloo Fest in the summer and Voodoo Fest at Halloween in October.
There are 3 convenience stores within as many blocks. Canseco Grocery is also located on Esplanade; it has a deli and small hot buffet as well as a full line of produce, dairy, bakery and canned goods.

Getting Around

Getting around is easy. Walk toward the river on Esplanade Ave. and you are in the French Quarter after 11 short blocks. The opposite direction takes you to the Jazz Fest Fair Grounds and City Park with it's Art Museum.
Catch the Esplanade Ave bus and it will take you downtown to Canal St. From there you can take the St. Charles street car to the Garden District or University Area (Tulane & Loyola Universities) or the Magazine St. bus through the Uptown shipping area and end at Audubon Zoo.

Other Things to Note

In addition to the restaurants previously mentioned, a Morning Call coffee and beignets cafe is now located in the old casino building in City Park, near the new mini golf course. Other park activities include a gondola ride in the park lake or paddle wheeling in the lagoons, amusement park rides in the Carousel Gardens and the Train Garden located in the Botanical Gardens. As a licensed tour guide, I provide private tours when requested; however, these must be requested and reserved.
