The Space

The photo you see at the start of this listing is of Halemaumau at the Jagger Museum overlook which is about ten minutes from this rental. This photo was taken by one of my guests at the end of October, 2012. There may have been some time lapse involved so I can't promise it looks exactly like the photo on any given night, however the lava at Halemaumau does seem to be rising! One recent estimate says that as of late October the lava is within 30 feet of visibility.

So come stay just a few minutes by car plus about a minute on foot from this amazing volcanic event!

Enjoy peace and privacy on 5 acres bordering hundreds of acres of Rain Forest Reserve lands on a property that is in Volcano Village just a mile or two from the shops and restaurants of Volcano and about a five minute drive from the Volcanos National Park entrance. The Hale Hapu'u is a stunning, recently renovated home with two king suites and sleeping space for two additional singles or kids in the large double living room. There are three full bathrooms and a kitchen with every major (and most minor) appliance including a brand new microwave. The large back deck has a table for eating or smoking and a hammock - and now a four person soft tub!

The is high definition tv via satellite (one tv in the living room and a new one in the forest room), dvd players and many premium channels including movies and almost 80 channels of music.

This gorgeous custom home sitting on 5 acres of lovingly landscaped private rain forest which borders a massive Rain Forest Reserve is one of the most luxurious houses in the Volcano area. The home has two bedrooms and three bathrooms and with the convertible living room banquettes it comfortably sleeps 6 (two couples and two single children or teens on the intersecting banquettes - the only "real beds" are the king beds in each room). This home features cathedral ceilings, central wood burning fireplace and a custom kitchen with Koa cabinets and granite counters.

You will love the extra large, luxurious custom bathrooms - they are gorgeous with roomy tiled showers and exquisite forest views. The main house upstairs suite bathroom has two sinks, downstairs has a tub and the forest room bathroom has Koa cabinets and granite counters.

Other exceptional features include the massive covered deck with hot tub, hammock and table and chairs overlooking the lawn and the forest that blankets you in true serenity.

This property is located in Volcano Village proper in the fabulous Cymbidium Acres neighborhood. It is about a mile from the shops and restaurants of Volcano Village and perhaps three miles from the Volcanoes National Park. The lovely Volcano Golf and Country Club are about five minutes away along with the Volcano Winery.

Early Sunday morning be sure to catch the Volcano Farmer's market next to the playground at Cooper Center.

We are under 30 miles from the Hilo Airport.

The main house can be booked (king bedroom, living room sleeping and two bathrooms, kitchen, etc.) for a reduction in price of $100 a night without the Forest Room but in this case the max occupancy is four. Ask for a "Special Offer".

The Forest Room has over 500 square feet of rain forest view privacy. It features ultra high ceilings, breathtaking forest views, hardwood floors, and king bed. The bathroom has Koa cabinets and an extra large shower with glass walls looking at the forest.

Note that the map location is not accurate - this rental is located above the Cooper Center on the Forest Reserve.

  • My family and I had a great stay at Hale Hapuu in Volcano. Situated nicely between Hilo and Kano and able to easily access Volcano National Park down the road. Close to beaches too. The house was very charming for a modern cabin and offered great amenities! It got a bit chilly up there, I'd suggest you pack sweatshirts for the evenings. Overall it was a great time. We would recommend if you decide to stay on the Big Island.

  • Volcano Village is a beautiful, unique place on the Big Island. The Hale Hapuu was a perfect home base to explore the park and surrounding area. We stayed four nights. It was clean, quiet, private and sort of surreal in the misty rainforest. We hiked and explored during the days and then cooked delicious dinners at the home in the evening. Thank you to Krish for her hospitality and extra shout out to her for going out of her way to get us a spatula!

  • Krish was an excellent host! She helped me arrange our stay as a surprise for my boyfriends birthday and gave a lot of guidance of things to do in the area. The home is beautiful, everything and more than the pictures show! Miss Hawaii already!

  • We had an amazing time in this home in Volcano. It was perfectly located near all the sites we wanted to see and there were so many wonderful little restaurants within 5 minutes of the house. Krish could not have been easier to work with and took the time to give us tips on what to do and where to eat. The home was in perfect condition. There was even a working hot tub. If you want a truly unique experience this is the location to choose in Volcano.

  • Lovely house, good location, great host. We much enjoyed our stay here.

  • The Forest Room Suite was a true delight! The room is very large with vaulted ceilings. It is very clean and the perfect place to stay for a few nights for 2 people. The gas fireplace is nice for chillier evenings. It is an amazing retreat, set back from the road, and you feel as if you are the only ones on the planet, it's the best!
Also, Krish was an amazing host. Her communication is excellent and she is so useful for information. She had freshly ground coffee, papayas, bananas, and oranges waiting for us on our arrival. Krish also had great local information and even saved us a few hundred dollars by letting us know that we didn't need a 4 wheel drive (even though all of the travel books say you do).
I will absolutely stay there again! Thanks for everything Krish.
