About this listing

The Hale Hapu'u is a comfortable, unique and memorable place for special family time. The location in central Volcano Village is private yet mere moments by car from the Volcanoes National Park - and current volcanic action!

The space

The photo you see early in this listing is of Halemaumau at the Jagger Museum overlook which is about ten minutes from this rental.

So come stay just a few minutes by car plus about a minute on foot from this amazing volcanic event!

You will enjoy peace and privacy on this five acre property bordering hundreds of acres of Rain Forest Reserve lands yet you will be centrally located in Volcano Village just a mile or two from the shops and restaurants of Volcano and about a five minute drive from the Volcanos National Park entrance.

This unique custom home sitting on 5 acres of lovingly landscaped private rain forest is one of the nicest houses in the Volcano area. The home has two bedrooms and three bathrooms and with the convertible living room banquettes it comfortably sleeps 6 (two couples and two single children or teens on the intersecting banquettes - the only "real beds" are the king beds in each room). This home features cathedral ceilings, central wood burning fireplace and a custom kitchen with Koa cabinets and granite counters - and dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, blender, etc.

You will love the extra large, luxurious custom bathrooms - they are gorgeous with roomy tiled showers and exquisite forest views. The main house upstairs suite bathroom has two sinks, downstairs has a tub and the forest room bathroom has Koa cabinets and granite counters.

The Forest Room has over 500 square feet of rain forest view privacy. It features ultra high ceilings, breathtaking forest views, hardwood floors, and king bed. The bathroom has Koa cabinets and an extra large shower with glass walls looking at the forest.

Other exceptional features include the massive covered deck with hot tub, hammock and table and chairs overlooking the lawn and the forest that blankets you in true serenity.

The is high definition tv via satellite (one tv in the living room and a new one in the forest room), dvd players and many premium channels including movies and almost 80 channels of music.

This property is located in Volcano Village proper in the fabulous Cymbidium Acres neighborhood. It is about a mile from the shops and restaurants of Volcano Village and perhaps three miles from the Volcanoes National Park. The lovely Volcano Golf and Country Club are about five minutes away along with the Volcano Winery.

Early Sunday morning be sure to catch the Volcano Farmer's market next to the playground at Cooper Center.

We are under 30 miles from the Hilo Airport.

Please no parties or special events at this house.

You may inquire: usually the main house can be booked (king bedroom, living room sleeping and two bathrooms, kitchen, etc.) for a reduction in price of $100 a night without the Forest Room but in this case the max occupancy is four - 2 adults sharing a room and 2 kids or teens in the living room. Ask for a "Special Offer". But please note that the laundry facilities are located in the Forest Room and if the house is booked at the special offer price there will be no laundry machines available.

Note that the map location may not be accurate - this rental is located above the Cooper Center on the Forest Reserve.

Guest access

The entire five acres is your private domain.

Interaction with guests

I am available to the guests via phone, text or email. If all goes well the guests will have complete privacy for the duration of their stay - but I am available and usually have someone in the area if needed.

Other things to note

The home is located at close to 4000 feet of elevation and in the rain forest so it can be cool and rainy at any time of year. Please bring some warmer things for evenings and/or weather.

Overall a very nice place for the area. One should just be aware that there are no window coverings on any of the bedrooms- so it gets very bright early. The backyard is beautiful but very small- well I guess the lot is technically 5 acres most of it is unusable brush / forest.

Response from Krish:
Just to clarify regarding the five acre property: it is covered in native Hawaiian rainforest with very few invasive species. When you say there is "brush" I think you are referring to the uluhe (Staghorn type) ferns which grow everywhere. The uluhe is actually an essential symbiotic component of our native forest and keeps out invasive grasses and weeds. The mowed and "usable" portion of the lawn is close to 8000 square feet. Glad you had a good stay! I think you are forgetting our early correspondence where the window coverings were discussed. The Hale Hapu'u is definitely much more suited to enjoying the forest than to sleeping in ;)

Being in volcano was super convenient to the national park. The property is lovely and gives the feeling of being in a rustic retreat. There were small touches such as fresh tropical fruit for us to enjoy.

From the moment we walked through the front door to our departure, we found peace, serenity and comfort. Hale Hapuu provided all the needs of home and more from the kitchen to the bedrooms to the bath. Papayas/bananas, coffee/cream, extremely comfortable beds/luxury linens, shampoo/conditioner, luxury towels, fire wood, oh my, the list goes on. The location is about 8 minutes from the Volcanos National Park entrance, near several restaurants and stores. It is completely surrounded by native plants and tall norfolk island pines for total privacy from any neighbors. The house is designed perfectly for two couples with two "master" bedrooms/private baths. For a party of six, two would sleep in the day beds and use the private bath off the living room. Krish was extremely helpful and available to answer questions even when we called at 9pm asking about the hot tub. The directions provided prior to arrival spelled out everything - directions, access, codes, local activities, local dining and more. We didn't want to leave!

Our first time using Air B&B and everything worked like a charm. This house was very relaxed and just the way we wanted to stay in Volcano Village. The house was well kept and spacious. In the evenings the open fire kept us warm while it was nearly non-stop rain outside. It is those moments when a warm feeling of comfort comes for you are safe and warm in a wonderful house while outside the elements are doing their thing. Thank you Krish

Krish was a great host. Fresh fruit awaited us. The instructions were clear and the house was clean and ready for us to settle in. It was great to have basics in the pantry for cooking.
