Gumbo Limbo is a boutique bed & breakfast located in the hills of Santa Teresa, just 600 meters to Santa Teresa beach and town. Along with stunning ocean views, Gumbo Limbo's central, hilltop location provides seclusion- a nice break from the bustle of town, while being only a 2 minute drive to the beach and main road. As we are situated on a large hill, a 4x4 vehicle, which is generally better for Costa Rica roads, is needed to reach our property.
Each of our villas is surrounded by tropical lush nature, giving total privacy and a real feeling of being in the jungle, while still having complete comfort. From every corner of our property, you can find amazing ocean and mountain views. Our beautiful infinity pool is the perfect spot to relax and watch the best sunsets Santa Teresa has to offer.
Breakfast included: A full daily breakfast with fresh fruits/yogurt/granola, scrambled eggs and gallo pinto (Costa Rican traditional breakfast) is served daily in our ocean view dining area and is included in the rate.
Location: We are located 600 meters from Santa Teresa Beach and town, just 2 minutes drive to the beach access road, many restaurants and cafes. As we are situated on a hill, we recommend a 4x4 vehicle to reach us, which is generally better for Costa Rica roads. We are happy to assist with ATV/quad or car rental if you need, and can also help if you have any questions about tours, activities or surf lessons.
Other accommodation options: Please don't hesitate to inquire about our other accommodation options (Our 1BR and 2BR ocean view villas- listings can be found under my profile)

Just have fun!
Awesome view, outside bathroom very pleasant. Priscilla and Larry were very helpfull. Without forgetting "Wilberth" the lovely cat who slept with us!
Thank you for everything! You contribute to make our holidays wonderful!
Alejandro was fantastic from the start. We had trouble initially finding the location but with his help we found it. The spot was chill with a great view of the ocean. Breakfast every morning was delicious. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The cat was awesome sauce. Definitely recommend 4x4 SUV if visiting this location due to a massive hill. We really enjoyed our stay.
This location is down towards the less touristy section of santa teresa offering beautiful views and quite nights. The room was comfartable and clean. The staff and Juan were very friendly and helpful and we loved Wilbur the orange kitty!
There was a lot of talk in other reviews of suggesting a car or quad. You really do need one. We hicked this hill with our backpacks and it was very challenging, very hot, required boots and made coming and going during the day undesirable. You will enjoy what this property has to offer so much more if you have transportation.
In all of our whole trip in Costa Rica, we enjoyed staying at Gumbo Limbo the most!! Juan, Alejandro and especially little Marco made our stay so delightful and full of activity. They booked us an amazing fishing trip and surf lesson. UNFORGETTABLE!!
-Gumbo Limbo is a very quaint and intimate establishment up high in Santa Teresa hills.
-4 min driving to downtown. (4x4 needed) Steep hill to drive to get to the hotel.
-Breathtaking ocean view rooms (crazy sunsets)
-Rooms are very clean.
-Swimming pool with a disappearing edge over looking the pacific beach.
-Breakfasts were amazing!! Great variety.
We felt right at home the moment we arrived. The two hosts and Marco were amazing and fun to talk to.
Gumbo Limbo is a must if you're in the Santa Teresa area!!
Juan was an amazing host, who met up with us on site, gave us instructions and explained everything.
Great breakfast, amazing view and infinity pool!
The way there is a bit steep, but it´s worth every step.
Car is recommended.
Awesome spot, awesome hosts, you need to stay at the Gumbo Limbo if you're in town! Just make sure you have a proper car to get there because the way up the hill is pretty steep.
Gumbo Limbo is a very special place and I will certainly revisit as soon as possible!
Juan and Alejandro are two of the most awesome hosts I have yet to encounter- relaxed and so welcoming, they will provide you with everything you may need and more, including some fantastic cooking! They organised an Argentinian BBQ 1 night which I will not forget, and every morning started with a delicious breakfast made with love, overlooking the ocean. They are not only professionals making the art of running a small hotel seem effortless, but they really care about their guests and home, paying careful attention to every aspect.
The views from each of the rooms/bathrooms are stunning, and the rooms themselves are super comfy and really quite beautifully set up. I stayed with my boyfriend in the less expensive oceanview room for 3 nights and we then moved into one of their private villas for 3 nights and we loved both equally for different reasons. I would highly recommend gumbo limbo for any couple looking for a romantic trip away, as well as for small groups of friends in search of a very cool place to stay. There is a great infinity pool which overlooks the Costa Rican jungle and ocean, giving you an abundance of birds, monkeys, lizzards and other animals to watch all day or listen to at night, and its a 5 mins really fun off road drive to the beaches and main street.
you will definitely want a 4x4 car to reach the lodge which sits ontop of a steep hill overlooking the ocean below, but you could also rent quads there if you prefer too. just ask them for help and info, they speak both English and Spanish.
Santa Teresa itself is amazing, offering the best of a chilled surfers lifestyle and the ultimate beach luxury getaway. the food is great, the locals are so nice, there are parties as well as the option of quiet evenings, and it caters for all ages. the amazing beaches and perfect waves for swimming/surfing are certainly the main attraction but there is a great vibe to the place in general.
To summarise, you will NOT be disappointed. I have visited lots of wonderful places and I cannot believe I stumbled upon Gumbo Limbo on Air bnb and for such a good rate.

About the Host, Juan
Mi adicción es surfear, lo que me ha llevado estos últimos años a distintos lugares y he aprendido que viajando se conoce gente que vale la pena. Espero ahora poder tener la oportunidad de hospedar a esas personas!
