Amazing place, and everyone was great. This little apartment is super secluded- it's at the bottom of a little stairway, and faces only the jungle & ocean, no one else in sight. The pool and the restaurant were outstanding and the location was easy for beach and everything else. Definitely recommend it.
Room was clean, staff was friendly, and wifi was fast. We enjoyed our stay a lot.
Wow! My boyfriend and I stayed here for three days and could not have been happier. The oceanview condo is absolutely amazing. The pictures really do not do it justice. It is very spacious and comfortable, and the terrace with its hammock and chairs and beautiful views of the jungle and ocean are out of this world. The condo is part of a villa complex, so as a guest you can use all of the amenities--the staff was wonderful and very helpful in booking tours, transportation, etc. Given the high prices of hotels in Manuel Antonio, Sheryl's condos are an amazing bargain. Please do yourself a favor and stay here. You will not regret it.
We stayed in Villa #12 for six nights after traveling around the country for a week. This was the perfect getaway for our relaxing end of our trip. The staff was so kind and extremely helpful. I can't emphasize this enough. Manuel Antonio is extremely safe, but there was also a secure gate and staff monitoring the entrance.
The room was a dream! We could hear howler monkeys every night and woke up feeling as if we were in the middle of the jungle... which we essentially were! The partial kitchen was perfect, since we ended up going to the farmer's market (a tip from the front desk attendant). I noticed a previous comment about ants. There were a few ants, but it was in no way an infestation. We also had fruits out in a bowl for a few days and the ants never bothered them or any of our other food. Also, lets be real.. you are in the jungle!
The breakfast was the best that we experienced in Costa Rica and the dinner at the restaurant was also amazing (a bit pricy, but worth it!) The pool was extremely clean and surrounded by a beautiful flowering jungle garden. Sometimes pink flower petals would float down to the water, which made the experience all the more magical.
There was a public bus that ran every 15 minutes from Quepos to the Manuel Antonio beach. The walk from our hotel was manageable and actually quite fun, but the bus was great to take home after a long day in the sun.
All that being said, our experience with the other guests staying at Villas Nicolas was less than inviting. As a gay couple, we had some serious eyes on us the entire time. Aside from the staff and one or two parties staying here, some of the guests were clearly and vocally homophobic. On our last day, a man who stays here regularly, screamed at us by the pool when he saw us hugging in the water. We hadn't kissed once in front of him. He told us we were "disgusting", "insulting", and "should have stayed at the gay hotel next door." What disturbs me the most about this, was that this man said he was friends with Sheryl, and had she been there, she would have immediately kicked us out of the hotel. This was just an extremely upsetting end to our trip. After all of our beautiful travel, it was just so sad to experience such hatred in the place that felt the safest.
This was definitely the nicest place we stayed at in Costa Rica! Our room was beautiful and full of local art, such as carvings and wall hangings. Every time we had our towels washed, they were arranged into the most amazing towel animals like swans, bears, and bunnies - such a nice touch! We had a nice kitchen, ocean view, air conditioning, and a convenient in-room safe (which we loved having!).
The pool was clean and wonderful for relaxing, and the location was great. It was just a 15 minute walk down the hill to the beach, and buses back to the hotel came every 30 minutes and only cost around 50 cents.
The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating, particularly the night guard, who was the sweetest local Costa Rican man always with a big smile on his face. We'd definitely stay here again!
This place is paradise. Within walking distance to restaurants (I reco Cafe Milagro for a nice dinner!) and less than a dollar bus ride to the beach. Monkeys will hopefully greet you like they did us and the sunset from the hammock of your ocean view room will be a great peaceful end to your day. Beware critters in your room (you are near the jungle after all) but everything is clean and comfortable. Also pack your own shampoo/conditioner if you wanna wash the beach out of your hair.
Would return here and recommend...
Very relaxing place to come back to after a day of exploring. The patio was very nice and really enjoyed the visits from the monkeys coming through the trees. Clean, comfortable with good amount of utensils for cooking. I also enjoyed the use of the pool. As well, I was happy there were plenty of restaurants and a grocery store with in walking distance.
My wife and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for a week. The studio and the deck were both spacious and inviting. The deck opened up into the rainforest, and on multiple days, we could see monkeys close by swinging between the trees. It's a great and comfortable place to take lazy days and lounge around, and we much preferred to it to some of the pricier hotels we saw in the area.
The adjacent hotel is just a few steps away, and the staff were extremely friendly and helped us to book tours and excursions. We'd highly recommend staying here.
Out of all the rooms I booked for my Costa Rica trip, I was the most excited about this one. It turned out to be just okay.
The Pros: The location is fantastic and the family of howler monkeys living outside our front porch was a stand-out experience. The shower is nice and big with hot water and the bed was relatively comfortable. Great large, clean refrigerator/freezer and good TV. The little couch area was nice for napping. Semi-private entrance/front patio was nice. (The entrance is where the hammock and lawn chairs are.) They allowed us all the amenities of the hotel like renting beach towels, pool, and booking tours.
The Cons: The room itself was grimy and felt like a dorm/hostel with run down furniture and florescent lighting. I shouldn't have expected more for the low price, but the pictures made me believe otherwise. The kitchen had ants and the previous occupant left a cereal box and bag a sugar in the microwave. Bugs were all around, coming in through the walls and some had made homes in the corners. No a/c, but there are two ceiling fans. Take a cold shower before bed and you'll be fine. The wi-fi was very, very spotty and we went without it most of the time. This apartment is next to the Villa Nicholas Hotel, but it's not apart of it. The room is owned by the hotel manager, I believe. Next time I'd rather just book with the hotel. We just never really felt comfortable or clean in this room, but it worked out just fine and pushed us to spend all of our time exploring Manual Antonio.
Not a bad way to go, just remember it is a "jungle" studio and don't expect much else.
The studio was just as amazing in person as the photo's. The ambiance of the place feels like a tree house which really adds to the Costa Rica experience. The deck was our favorite part and was a wonderful place to relax or wait for an afternoon rain shower to pass by. We even saw lots of birds and monkeys playing in the trees right off the deck! The location right in the middle of Manuel Antonio was also great with so much within walking distance and the rest just a short and cheap bus ride away. Being right next door and connected to the Villas Nicolas was also great as you have access to their staff (which were great, especially Alexandra!), pool, etc. Overall, this is a fabulous little gem!
