in the heart of Port with car parking out back . Room is small but styled nice .. however wasn't happy with being told we couldn't check in till 6pm ( we'd been up since 3am extremely tired ) our room leaked water on a heavy down pour of rain ( mentioned to Alex ) and we didn't have a iPad as advertised . Left after 7 days with mixed feelings on this accommodation.
Janine and Amanda were great hosts, they were available whenever I had a question. This is cute little self serve hotel. There's a kitchen to prepare food. And iPad and tv to watch movies on. Reasonable price for a resort town. I'd stay there again.
Very highly recommended! We stayed for 8 nights in October 2014 and look forward to coming back again (hopefully next year!). Both Amanda and Janine were very friendly and helpful from the first contact about making a reservation to checking out. We had Room 7 at the front with a balcony and loved it. It was clean and well maintained with nice modern decor. It was also very quiet even though it faced the main street (there are no noisy bars in the immediate vicinity and the doors to the balcony are well sound-proofed). There was a fridge in the room with mini bar and it was very easy to get replacements for any bathroom items. There was free wifi which we really appreciated. While there is no on-site reception communication by phone and text was very easy and we always got a prompt and friendly response. Like other reviewers we were delighted with the location - right in the center of things and within easy walking distance of the Marina for access to the Diving Boats.
The hosts were very friendly and attentive ensuring all was OK. The room clean and had all I needed for my 3 night stay. It was just s the description indicated. The location was prime... on the main street within easy walking distance of restaurants, marina, shops, etc. Parking was provided. Love Port Douglas.... much prettier than Cairns.
I was traveling solo for a wedding and the location was perfect being dead smack in the middle of main drag. Room was clean and had everything in needed. Off street parking also a great bonus to dump the hire car. Room was comfortable and quiet.
The Gratitudes is a very modern set-up. There is no reception but you all communication is prompt and easy via text. You pick the key up via a lock-box.
Because there is only a virtual reception the hosts leave a note every day to make sure everything has been taken care off and if you need anything you can just write a note as well.
I was very happy to communicate via text and was responded to very quickly. I also met Janine a couple of times too. She made sure to come by and say goodbye.
I was surprised that my room did not have a window. I did have a very reasonable rate and the location was top-notch so I felt I had good value for money. But I would imagine that some people would be put off by no window so you may wish to ask about that before booking. It does have a small skylight.
Access to free wifi and Apple TV was brilliant. That made everything really relaxed and easy for me. Especially as I ended up getting a cold one day.
The bed and sheets were really top-notch and very very comfortable. Very happy with that after a week long stay.
A final word of recommendation - the coffee at the Little Larder place next door is up to Melbourne standards and if you want a sandwich you can't go past the pulled port there. It was delicious.
Thanks for a lovely relaxing week.
