We spent 8 nights in this lovely apartment. Casa Zapoteca proved to be the perfect home away from home in Oaxaca. The location is ideal: close enough to be in easy walking distance of all the key activities of the Centro, a few steps off the northern end of the Alcala, but also enough on the edge of things to peaceful and quiet. It is a 5 minute walk from the superb restaurants clustered several north of the Zocalo. There is a mercado a couple of blocks away for daily shopping, as well as a grocery store and laundromat etc nearby. As for the hosts: Donna and Carlos (and the sweet dog, Gardenia) were warm, welcoming and had just the right balance in terms of respecting our privacy. We found it a real plus when the hosts live on site. In addition to providing great help on all kinds of logistics (sight-seeing, transport, eating, etc), they provided timely and accurate emails about arrival, special directions for our ride from the airport because of construction and street closures during a festival. They even found some bubble-wrap and packing tape to help us get our pottery purchases home in one piece. As for the flat, it is exceptionally well appointed with furniture and art, has a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and a clean comfortable bathroom. It is in the back, and on the top floor, of the 4 unit property so is away from the street noise in an already quiet part of the city. Our favorite spot, however, was the spacious roof terrace, with views of the domes of Santo Domingo over the treetops of the botanical garden. Several seating options, some under cover, others not. It was a perfect place for a quiet coffee in the morning, a siesta during the afternoon, a sunset drink, or an evening conversation, watching thunder storms move in across the valley, birdwatching, and so on. As for other conveniences: purified water was provided for drinking, wifi was very fast and completely reliable, a maid came twice during the week to make sure the place was kept spotless.
The apartment is lovely and perfectly located, just a short walk to Zocalo. It is very well equipped and decorations and details are beautiful. We felt like being at home right away.
Thank you Donna & Carlos to making our first visit to Oaxaca unforgettable! We will certainly come back to ”our” home in Oaxaca some day...
We loved our stay in Oaxaca at the Apartment with the View. Carlos was a great host and we hope to visit again soon.
Donna and Carlos were wonderful hosts and they have a lovely, peaceful spot in Oaxaca. Amazing location and comfortable apartment. We really enjoyed our stay!!
This lovely little apartment served as our headquarters and launch pad for all the wonderful delights to be found in el Centro. The apartment itself is nicely decorated with warm, artistic touches. Everything you need to cook, live and entertain is readily available.
The bedroom fan is possessed by a mischievous imp (it changes speeds on its own), but other than that, nothing was amiss.
The rest of the apartment complex is charming, with a rooftop view that starts your day off right. You can catch a glimpse of Santo Domingo's steeple or stare off into the mountains from the comfort of the hammock.
Donna and Carlos were wonderful hosts. They provided us recommendations, guide books, a map and fresh fruit and juices. They were very welcoming and checked in on us throughout our stay to ensure we were having a great time.
I loved staying here!
Excellent hosts, fantastic terrace with a wonderful view, perfect neighborhood next to Santo Domingo and the Jardín Botánico, fully equipped apartments. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing place to visit and experience Oaxaca. The hosts are incredibly helpful and providing.
This is the second time I've had the opportunity and joy to stay with Donna (first time for a month and second time for the weekend) and I can genuinely say there is no better place in Oaxaca to stay at! Location, location, location, additionally the apartment is extremely nice!

About the Host, Donna & Carlos
I came upon Oaxaca in the early seventies while traveling through Mexico and Central America looking at ancient ruins, pottery villages and having the adventure of a lifetime. As the years went by I continued to return to the"Land of Chapulines". It retained its magic. And so, in 1996 I gave up the life I loved in a big city and moved to Oaxaca to live a dream. I met my partner, Carlos, and together we renovated an old house in the "el centro".. Renting my own apartment in Casa Zapoteca, short term through airbnb, gives me the freedom to continue the exploration if only for a few weeks at a time.
