A tastefully appointed, studio carriage house on quiet alley with lots of light, hard wood floors, efficiency kitchen, and full bath. It comfortably sleeps two and is within two blocks of local favorites Cherokee Park and Bardstown Road.
The 500 sq-ft apartment is spacious, clean, and uncluttered. There is an unmistakable zen vibe accented with furnishings and artwork from southeast Asia. The full-size bed has super soft sheets and a cozy comforter (additional sleeping arrangements can be made with the sofa, and an air-bed). There is wi-fi internet access. The kitchen includes a coffee maker, microwave, 1/2 size fridge, countertop oven, dual hot plate, and rice cooker.
Guests will have full access to the Carriage House apartment, and may also cut flowers and vegetables from the garden.
Interaction with Guests
We will be present in the main house during your stay, and will be able to help with food, activity, and entertainment suggestions.
It's hard to overstate how great the neighborhood is. It is very pedestrian and bike friendly. The apartment is within 2-3 blocks of the best local cafe, local bookstore, local videostore, a ton of dining options (including 3 of the best restaurants in Louisville), bars, grocery store, movie theaters, bike shop, vintage goods, and the library. In addition, Cherokee Park is down the street and features hiking & biking trails, golf course, tennis courts, etc.
The apartment is a 5 minute drive (10 minute bike ride) to NuLu (East Market Street), downtown, and the downtown hospital district, and 10-12 minute drive to Churchill Downs. Local buses run regularly along Bardstown Rd, two blocks away. If you want to go further afield, the highway is close by and you can easily get to Bluegrass and/or Bourbon country.

There are no quiet hours, per se, but the Highlands Carriage House Retreat is located in a residential neighborhood, and we ask that you be respectful of our neighbors.
The Carriage House was exactly as described - very cute, clean and convenient! It has key-less entry which made check-in/out a breeze and it was great not having to keep up with keys. It's laid out like a studio apartment; very spacious living/dining/sleeping area and a decent sized bathroom. It had a small kitchenette with a large mini-fridge, sink, hot plate, big toaster oven and coffee maker, which was perfect for our short stay. The neighborhood is amazing and centrally located! It's 2 blocks from Bardstown Road where there are tons of great bars and restaurants (definitely check out Holy Grale - the mussels are AMAZING!) and it's only a $10 Lyft ride (with tip) from downtown. We did not rent a car so the location was key as we were cabbing our entire trip. We spent our days in downtown and our evenings on Bardstown road, and even ventured out to the Bulleit distillery ($17 Lyft). The only time we had trouble getting cab was early Friday morning and mid-day Monday, but there was a giant snowstorm Monday which probably had something to do with it. We did run into Juliet on our way out and she was kind enough to shovel snow off the stairs for us :) ! I definitely recommend staying here and visiting Louisville!
An excellent place to stay. Super easy self-check in and out. All the special instructions were clearly laid out in an email. Juliet was responsive and very accommodating. The carriage house is adorable. It was super clean, adequately equipped and in a great location. If you're looking for a place in Louisville...this is it!
This carriage house is exceptionally clean and wonderful. I had a a great stay the 1st night, had to come back for a second night while I was working on a deadline in Louisville. Highly recommended and thank you so much Juliet!
Beautiful carriage house in the Highlands. Super clean, description was very accurate. Just perfect. Walking distance to coffee shops, restaurants, shopping. Highly recommended.
We had a great experience at the carriage house! The location was perfect for our plans. We had everything we might need for our stay. It was our anniversary so we greatly appreciated the privacy but loved that Juliet was easily accessible if we needed her. Such a great experience. Definitely recommend and would stay here again!
Had a great first Airbnb experience here. The place is great and just a short walk to everything Bardstown rd has to offer.
Hands down the best neighborhood in Louisville--many cute restaurants, shops, and the beautiful Cherokee Park all within easy walking distance. The space was perfectly clean, private, and beautifully furnished with a cozy bed, well-appointed kitchen, and full bath. Juliet and Mathias were available for questions and concerns but gave us our space during our stay. They provided an excellent list of places to see and eat throughout Louisville. We loved our time in KY!
