About this listing
Renovated historic bldg: large windows, gorgeous view. Stylin' Warm Mid-Century meets Hip Industrial. Downtown, brew pub next door, Sculpture Park, WiFi, Bose Bluetooth speakers, bikes. Books! Monitor. Smart TV (Netflix, laptop compatible, no cable tv) bike path one block, Grays Lake, Blues Club, other restaurants in walking distance.
This loft is styled for and by an artist and for anyone who appreciates a sleek yet cozy MidCentury meets modern aesthetic. Kept its historical feel but modernized with super comfortable queen bed, large lounge chairs, a modern, open loft space.
The location downtown near Gray's Lake and the Sculpture Park is nice and the view can't be beat. Parking in my ramp or free outside all weekend long. Citibikes or ride mine, walk to the GasLamp for blues, Grays Lake for stand up paddle boarding, or ride to the IA Cubs ballpark. I highly recommend catching a concert at the Simon Estes amphitheater.
I have a road bike and a beach cruiser. All within a short walking distance, we have a word class sculpture park nearby, a blues bar, food trucks, bew pub, city bikes, fitness centers, the entertainment district: Court Avenue District, Science Center, Civic Center, Coffee, Java Joes, The Ritual Cafe, La Mie, Farmers Market, Bike Path, Principal Ball Park and Gray's Lake a half mile away. There is also a bus station and a free shuttle that will take you to DSM's East Village area - where my fave dining and drinking spots are.
Interaction with Guests
I may be traveling but we can have as much interaction you need to feel comfortable whether it's a cup of coffee, a cocktail or a quick exchange of keys.
I want you to love Des Moines - a small, safe but exciting city with big city amenities and culture that Forbes calls the number one city to live in.
Blocks from Court Ave and Farmer's Market. Gray's Lake is less than a mile with an awesome bike and running path.
You can also find Des Moines City Bikes for rent, or I have a beach cruiser and road bike you can borrow. Taxi's are a 15 minute phone call, and in the nice weather, we have a few pedi-taxis (bike taxis) for a fun way to get around. Dart Bus Terminal is 8 blocks away with bus lines running nearby. Also a free shuttle called the Locust Shuttle running during the week.
Other Things to Note
We don't have our grocery store built yet. There is a Walgreens nearby but only open til 7:00, also a bodega. Both are on sixth between Walnut and Mulberry. (8 blocks) Gateway Market is within 5 minutes driving with a great little restaurant, it's upscale and expensive but great deli and salad bar. Whole Foods, Trader Joes are a 15 min drive and Price Chopper or a HyVee within ten.
I'd prefer quiet guests that don't make a lot of noise or disturb neighbors in any way because this is a safe, quiet, security building.
Came into Des Moines traveling through, was able to get a reservation with Laura the night before. The loft is in a great artist's community, there were pieces of work all over the place-very cool. Laura was available readily and was on site to give me a tour of the place. Close to downtown, I biked to the local barcade after having dinner at the brewery right across the street from the loft. I highly recommend this place if you are going to be in Des Moines.
Laura was attentive, responded to texts, phone calls right away. She was flexible, accommodated us graciously, and made us feel welcome. Took time to give us an orientation of her loft apt. w/ all the important details, including access to Netflix via her flat screen. Comfy bed, quality sheets, towels, etc. Laura's Apt. loft is in excellent location, great view, clean, artistically decorated (of course), close to Des Moines Arts Fest (downtown) w/popular Exile Brewery just across the street. We appreciated Laura's generosity with building parking space and use of her bicycle. We recommend and will definitely return!

We were driving from Salt Lake City to Toronto with no real plan. We contacted Laura the night before our stay; she responded promptly and said she could get things ready for us. Laura's apartment is great, it's in a cool renovation of an old office building to residential. We were able to park right outside and walk a couple blocks to a nice dinner spot. Wish we could have stayed longer and poked around Des Moines but a long drive still beckoned. Thanks again Laura
It was a delight staying here in Des Moines. PLUS, she has the fastest wifi of any place I've ever stayed. I recommend this apartment.
About the Host, Laura
