Response from Lavoris:
Hi Nicole/Charity, I appreciate your feedback. I strive to give guests good value for their money by providing a nice, clean, safe and pleasant smelling environment. In order to maintain competitive and affordable prices for guests, I ask that they help me minimize costs by being mindful of the resources being utilized such as turning off the lights or unplugging electronic devices when they are done using them. As a part of my hosting/check in process, I always go over some friendly reminders because of the number of people who book but may not read through all of the house rules. I just note the most important ones as friendly reminders. In regards to your concern about the lights not being allowed on, you were free to turn on as many lights as you needed to guide yourself to your room, the only thing I asked is that you turned them off when you were done. Additionally, I finding it very unusual that you would book a reservation at a home that’s indicated under the house rules as , “no smoking in the house or anywhere on the premises as well as no drugs in the house or on the premises.” Per the Airbnb booking requirements, all guests must agree to the house rules prior to booking. Several complaints were received about the loud marijuana stench in the home and from your room. I was completely astonished, considering you said you worked at a bank. On two occasions you entered the home with a very unpleasant marijuana smell attached to you that lingered in the house for hours, thus affecting current guests who have serious allergies and migraine headaches. Although, you acknowledged that you didn’t smoke in the home, the smell was so strong that it seemed as if you were smoking in the house. I said, perhaps it was due to you smoking the marijuana in your truck and the smell was still left in your clothes. In order to potentially resolved the matter, I asked you to please air out your clothes prior to entering the home. In addressing this concern, I stated that I hoped me asking you to do this wouldn’t impact your stay, but if it did, I was willing to refund you for the remainder of your stay. Later that day, I received a message stating that you wanted to check out instead of being uncomfortable for the next week and a half. This was completely optional and I wanted to ensure that we both came to a resolution that was beneficial to the both of us. As a host, I take all guests concerns seriously, and it is my responsibility to ensure that their concerns are addressed accordingly and in a timely manner. Additionally, upon cleaning the room that you checked out of, I also saw marijuana paraphernalia in the trash can. This is clearly a violation of the, “no drugs on the premises,”policy and also a $350 fine, which I elected not to charge you. I’m sorry that you had some concerns that didn’t come up until I informed you of the, “no smoking/no drugs policy. I’m always mindful about the cleanliness of my home, the smell, and as such have chosen to add air fresheners accordingly. I went above and beyond to be as accommodating to you as much as possible by allowing you to get mail sent to my home prior to your arrival, securing the mail and also updating you upon delivery of it. In one of our Airbnb message exchanges you stated and I quote, “I appreciate your hospitality and the offer to refund the remaining part of my stay.” This is part of your response to a message that I sent to you on February 14, 2018 regarding the marijuana odor. You also mentioned to me verbally that my place was peaceful and serene compared to your previous Airbnb, which you said was like a fraternity house. I’m sorry that your stay was unenjoyable. I hope that you will find another Airbnb that will be more accommodating and suitable to your needs. Again, thank you for being a guest. God bless you and I wish you the best.
