ABOUT THE LOCATION:
Rich with local history, culture and sophistication, Potts Point is an ideal place to stay or visit. Situated within Sydney City, just a short 20-minute walk to the CBD and a stone's throw from Kings Cross Railway Station, so you can easily catch a train to some of Sydney's beaches major attractions. Sydney Buses, taxis and Car Share / Hire are also readily available in the immediate vicinity.
☺ PERSONAL SAFETY?
We live in the area with our six-year-old daughter, as does many young families these days. Macleay Street has gentrified over the last 10 years, and Potts Point is one of the most on-trend and affluent areas of Sydney. The area is highly populated and using simple common sense it's easy to stay safe.
CAR SHARE IS AVAILABLE!
Forget normal car rentals. Highly recommended and right outside the front door are two "GoGet" car-share "pods" and there are more than 20 GoGet cars within a two-minute walk. No need to worry about parking when you get back to the apartment if you sign up for these share cars - parking is free! Foreign licences are accepted, we will give you the address for the information pack and activation card. You should register before you leave home. Search for GoGet Car Share Sydney. Look for the FAQ's.
Ask us for our exclusive GoGet PROMO CODE to save the 50 joining fee!
Dozens of restaurants, cafes and bars are on your doorstep. There's plenty happening in the area, and some of Sydney's best restaurants are a short walk (Otto - at the Finger Wharf, or Macleay Street Bistro, down the road, just two examples). One of Sydney's best new cafes (Room 10 - Voted in SMH Good Cafe Guide) is 10m from your door, and there are loads of great places to eat and drink nearby.
Wilbur’s Place (100m) and Bourke Street Bakery (200m) are just around the corner. You’re also just a short walk to the Italian hub of Stanley street; a 20 min walk into the city, via the Domain and Hyde Park; a 20 minute walk (or less) to trendy Surry Hills. I’ll leave you a list of my favourite eating spots on check (website hidden) IN?
The apartment is 100 metres from the excellent Harris Farm supermarket (or there's an even bigger supermarket within 200metres); and there's a Farmers’ Market every Saturday only 80m walk away. I'll also leave the kitchen all set up with oil, vinegar, etc. so you can just focus on the main ingredients.
There's even a high-end caterer - "Sides & Main" - on your street, selling gourmet meals from their shop-front, so if you are too lazy to cook but want to eat in. Too easy.
Everyone knows neighbouring Kings Cross is famous for nightlife, but you may NOT know that its areas (Potts Point, Darlinghurst, Woollomoolloo and East Sydney) include some of Sydney's best areas to eat and drink in, all within a 5 minute walk. There are lots of hip small bars in the area - including on fabulous Llankelly Place, just near your building.
You can also walk 10 minutes to Oxford Street clubs, or just 20 minutes into the centre of Sydney (Rocks, Circular Quay, etc.). I'll give you plenty of tips on arrival.
If you like your nightlife more serene Govindas lounge cinema is about 5 minutes up the road, the Old Fitzroy Pub (so much character!) has a cheap theatre attached, and a great vibe. There are also numerous other local theatres and cinemas within walking distance. (I’ll leave you a few suggestions for all of this on check in).
Walk to Hyde Park or the Botanic Gardens; the Opera House (probably 30 minutes, via Hyde Park and the Botanic Gardens); or short bus/train to Bondi Beach or other eastern suburbs beaches. Potts Point is in Sydney’s centre, but has easy access to beaches, the famous Bondi-Bronte walk, and Sydney harbour (I’ll leave you tips with my favourite picnic spots and nearby walks).
Walk into the city, so easy! Potts Point is walking distance to George Street and the main centre of Sydney. The apartment is also about 15 minutes walk UNSW’s College of Fine Arts on Oxford Street, a quick bus to UNSW, easy commute to University of Sydney. The apartment is 10 minute walk to St Vincents’ Hospital. There's unlimited wireless internet in the apartment so getting online is no problem.
GYM'S, YOGA & PILATES?
The apartment is located on the same street as P.E. Dept Gym and Fitness First is 5 minutes away. There are also a few boutique Yoga and Pilates classes in the local area. Just tell us what you want to do and we will advise you on some of the options.
The Potts Point apartment is up one level of stairs. No problem for most people but just letting you know...
Washing machine and dryer is on the top level in building (coin operated).
Yes, there is a hairdryer!
A iMac computer with ADSL2 and WiFi internet is provided of course!
Also free local calls available on the land-line telephone.
If you require extra bedding for the sofa bed and you are not paying for a third guest, there is a one-time $20 surcharge for the additional laundry charges we incur. One-time and not per night. We ask guests to leave $20 on the table for our cleaners who manages the laundry services.
The extra bedding set for the 3rd guest comprises of 1 x flat sheet + 1 x fitted sheet + 1 duvet cover + 1 x duvet + 2 x pillow covers and pillows. There are also a couple of soft blankets to put under and and over the bedding for extra comfort.
The location is superb, but the Kings Cross area IS busy on a Friday/Saturday night. This is an action-packed part of town; one reason it's great to stay here. While the apartment itself is quiet, you may hear the neighbours occasionally, you will likely hear some noise from the street at night on the weekends. I think the location is totally worth it, but forewarned is forearmed, so they say!
Cars - Parking is available nearby but is a hassle, and it's expensive. Car rental locations are close by and GoGet car-share is easy and available close by. Locals walk everywhere or use the buses and trains
The location is so central this is easy. If you have a car I'll give you tips on where to park long term, and it's less than 5 minutes walk away. Kings Cross train station is only 300m walk away from the apartment.
- Please be respectful of other residents in the building and keep the noise down after about 10pm.
- If there are any problems during your stay, just let me know. Either way, we'll do our best to sort things out.
- Absolutely no smoking, including hanging outside the window! This is important and ignoring this rule will affect your security deposit.
- We really appreciate it if you can leave the place reasonably clean on your departure. My cleaner does a great job, but it's much nicer for if you guys leave your dishes done etc. so she can just focus on cleaning and restocking things like tea and coffee for the next guest :)
- As already stated in the notes and house rules, if you require extra bedding for the sofa bed and you are not paying for a third guest, there is a one-time $20 surcharge for the additional laundry charges we incur. One-time and not per night. We ask guests to leave $20 on the table for our cleaners who manages the laundry services.
- A lost key fee will be deducted from the deposit at $120 for each set. This is our actual cost, as the security key alone is $100 to replace via the building Management.
- If you require check-in after 5:30pm, you may need to do a 'self-check-in'. Its easy and fully documented for you - ask if you needed it. We will try be there, but we have a young family too.
- Now relax, enough boring details - get out of the rules and back to the fun part of planning your holiday!
My husband and I had a brief (very last minute) 2-night stay here on our first trip to Australia and Sydney. Not knowing anything about Potts Point, we hesitated at first with booking the apartment, worried that its Potts Point location would be a hassle getting to/from Sydney and the major tourist sights. It turned out that we enjoyed Potts Point very much. There are awesome eateries/cafes within walking distance from the apt, and the train stop is very close. An Uber ride to near the center of the Botanical Garden was only around $8 Australian dollars, but we easily walked there, too. There is a train stop at the harbor area near the Opera House and within easy walking distance to the garden. The taxi ride for two ppl on a Monday night around 10pm from the airport to the apt was only $40 Australian dollars (cheaper if we took the train, but we didn't want to bother with our carry-on luggage and transferring trains).
Although we did not meet Charlotte or Chris during our, communicating with them was easy. They provided thorough and clear check-in/out instructions. Their guidebook served as a useful resource (recommendations for eateries, walking/jogging routes from the apartment, tour options, train map, etc).
We generally liked the apartment (fresh, modern decor) and found it clean (with a few exceptions as described below). A few specific things: 1) the person in the apt above has heavy feet, and we heard (from the bedroom) brief stomping late at night and early morning; 2) the apt is next to a hostel and on one of the two nights, we were awoken by a very loud and disorderly young man outside/near the apt building. We didn't call the authorities as advised by the hosts' guidebook because the noise lasted only a few minutes; 3) there were visible light stains on most of the white face and bath towels that were provided (it smelled clean and my husband used the bath towel with the fewest stains, but I used a personal travel towel); 4) there is some mold in the shower.
Lovely apartment in a great location. Charlotte and Chris have really thought about everything their guests would need for a short stay including tips on where to go in the area.
Transport was easy from the apartment and there were lots of really good places to eat around the area. Would definitely recommend this apartment.
Charlotte has done a great job setting up the apartment for airbnb-ers. It had everything we needed, in a great location and Charlotte's suggestions were spot-on!
Would highly recommend it for a short stay in Sydney.
This was the second time that I stayed and Charlotte and Chris' unit. It is very well situated and they are very helpful. I particularly liked the in unit book of maps and local businesses. Stay here if you get the chance--it's great!
My stay at Chris and Charlotte's place was fantastic. The unit is large and well appointed with great attention to details that enhance the guest experience. The location can't be beat and the guidebook most useful. Chris and Charlotte were available for any questions I had. Stay here and enjoy Sydney!
Charlotte's place is fantastic! Fabulous location to explore Sydney from with so many shops and restaurants nearby. We needed a late check out time at short notice and Charlotte was very accommodating. Highly recommended!!
We booked the 2nd floor apartment but was allocated the 3rd floor instead due to an issue with the previous guest. no issues with us except the carrying of luggage up and down the stairs!
Overall it was a beautiful experience and Chris was really helpful with our luggage as well as explaining the room to us. He also went through some maps with us to help us get orientated around the area. And also responded quickly to our texts when we needed help with the hot water heater and also suggested some tours for us!
The place was fully equipped and had everything we needed. A nice and cosy place for 3 ladies. And we even had time to watch a DVD from the DVD collection on our last night :)
The surrounding area has nice eateries like Room 10 cafe but just a small note that there a number of drinking places and adult shops or so near one of the train exits; just be cautious if you are heading back late.
all in all, it was a great and enjoyable stay. thanks for everything! :)
