This adventure includes sharing the house with me, your host and sometimes other house guests. I am pretty quiet and expect the same. But I do love a good conversation if the situation strikes. If not, no problem. I go with the flow. I am a casual girl and so you won't find formalities in this house except for an overall common sense approach to neatness and friendliness.
This "shared" room is located in a newly renovated home in the historic area of Fairhaven, which is right next to the Quinnipiac River. You can leisurely walk to the marina and get some food at the nearby Boat House Cafe, or walk along the river and watch the Grand Avenue Bridge go up when the lobster boats come in.
Public transportation is right around the corner from the house. 15 minute ride to Amtrak or Metro North. Quick access to 1-95 or 1-91. Beautiful ocean vistas, lakes, or mountain hiking are literally minutes away. New Haven is known for its variety of ethnic cuisine and a very good wine store and local breweries are close by.
You have access to the kitchen and bathrooms, washer and dryer are in the basement. Nice yard with garden and firepit for bonfire nights in cool weather. Coffee and tea provided.
Interaction with Guests
I really enjoy meeting people and have been renting out space in my home for 20 years since I lived in Memphis, Tennessee and then New York City. Am always open for conversation or glass of wine, tea or plain ol' water!
Cozy house situated in the historic area of Fair Haven right on the banks of the Quinnipiac River. Old fashioned neighborhood, where community comes first. I love this neighborhood for so many reasons and I hope you do too. It's unlike any other area in New Haven.
Public transportation is right around the corner and downtown New Haven is ten minutes by car. Easy access to 91 and 95. We are very close to a marina and there is a lovely Boat House Cafe open for breakfast lunch and dinner within easy walking distance.
Other Things to Note
There is a great wine store across the Grand Avenue bridge called Grand Vin. Lovely River park down the street for fabulous views of the river and homes. Neighbors are friendly and we have a neighborhood association called Chatham Square where we continue to improve the area and build relationships. Unique place to live.
Check in is between 5-10pm, later check must be agreed upon before booking. Check out by 12pm. Smoking OK outside. Pets are not allowed. No loud noise after 10pm. You may keep food in the refrigerator but you must take it with you when you leave. Prefer no shoes in the house. Backyard firepit and outdoor space available.
Life is very busy so I do not normally allow for inquiries on the day of arrival so please book at least 48 hours ahead. Thank you!
I had a very good time staying with Melissa. The house is very nice and I liked the neighborhood too with the water close by for walks or runs and the bus station is right around the corner. I would definitely stay with Melissa again.
I stayed few more days at Melissa's place and it was again a very good and enjoyable stay. Melissa is very caring and her house is cozy
Melissa is an excellent host, and she helped me in whatever was needed when I arrived and offered me coffee or tea, giving me direction and information about the neighborhood. The house is nice and really a home away from home. The area is also nice and safe quite easy to get in town with the bus though not late in the evening. Overall was a great experience and liked it, I would come back again when I return to New Haven.
Melissa is an amazing host! She is caring and very nice to be with, her house is clean, super quite and warm. I am sure during summer it most be amazing to be there with flowers and green all around! I was so happy in her house I slept more than usual and felt like I wanted to just work from there! Such a nice place! Thank you am looking forward to coming back!
Melissa was an extremely warm and welcoming host who made us feel all at ease (and at home!) from the minute we first saw her. She was open and interested and just great talking to - she gave us some ideas about the area and recommended places we could go.
Her home she shared with us more like with friends than just mere guests and we enjoyed our stay exceedingly. Privacy was never a problem although the bed was situated in the living room and you could have expected otherwise.
Bestest first AirBnB experience! ;)
In regards to Melissa's accommodations my recommendation to all is to read the +More section of her listing. I did not and was a little surprised that the sofa bed at Melissa's house was in the middle of the living room of the house. For some this may be fine, but I was not expecting this to be the case as the listing did suggest it was a "bedroom". I take full responsibility for not fully understanding the layout of the sleeping arrangements, and will chalk this up to my Airbnb experience. That said, I did meet Melissa very briefly upon our arrival and by all accounts her host reviews are accurate regarding her person. We returned late in the evening and she very kindly setup the sofa bed for us.

I am into sustainable food and urban farms. I moved to Fair Haven to work with the kids in this neighborhood at a school garden down the street. I believe that growing food is a way for kids to learn about self-reliance and just eating better.
I am a former TV/radio producer from New York City. Used to live in Brooklyn Heights. But really I am from Chicago, the heart of the Midwest. I was raised on corn and steak. And really good tomatoes.
I really love music, as Lou Reed once said, "her life was saved by rock and roll." That is me.
I think Fairhaven is one of the best communities to live in hands down, the people here are genuine and hard working and they have a real community consciousness here that doesn't exist in many places. I love it here and am proud to call it my home.
