Booked the villa for my parents. This was a good choice.. set in a beautiful environment and a bit away from crowded Ubud center. My Balinese mom especially loved it. Joe was very helpful and responsive. Our only note would be that the water tap on the main bedroom's shower, was broken - it gives small electricity shock when you touch it. My parents were not warned about it prior, so they were quite surprised. But apart from this, everything went smooth. Terima kasih Joe!

If you are looking for traditional Balinese jungle palace, hidden away from the busy tourist areas in Ubud, Joseph's villa is the one. When we arrived at Sayan Ayu we were led down a beautiful winding path way through tropical flowers, shrines and burning incense to the house. Sayan Ayu is absolutely divine. A huge open plan home nestled amongst the jungle and overlooking the rice fields in the distance. We were very well looked after by Guday and his lovely wife Kaiyan whom look after the house, brought breakfast every morning and on our last evening cooked the most delicious Balinese feast for our family. It's the kind of place you'd just want to pack some good books and properly relax. We didn't want to go out at all. Sayan Ayu is a little out of Ubud unless you have a car or scooter you'd need to arrange a driver to take you in and out. Not really close to any food stalls so you'd need to go in to Ubud to eat or arrange for Guday to cook. What we loved the most was all of Joseph's decor- beautiful art, sculptures, photographs and books from his travels. We felt very lucky and special to be able to stay in such a magical and inspiring home. Thank you Joseph

The Tropical Colonial Villa is beautifully decorated, very spacious and well equipped. The views are of rice fields, trees and plantlife. The location is peaceful and a nice break from the main tourist streets of Ubud town. The booking process with Michael was seamless and I'd highly recommend the villa!

The Tropical Colonial Villa was amazing. My friends and I loved the house and the hospitality. The pictures do not do this place justice, you must see it in person. The house is very secluded and quite. Although its not in "downtown" Ubud, you can easily get there within 10-15 minutes on a motorbike. I would definitely recommend it to my family and friends, you will not be disappointed.

Dear Lamar, Thank you for the positive review and feed back. I will correct the perception on the website that it is downtown and hope you and your friends will return often. Best regards, Joe

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at the Tropical Colonial Villa - it is lovingly appointed with antiques and interesting curios. Gede and Wayan, the housekeepers are very helpful and attentive, and also great cooks! Would definitely stay again if we are back in Bali.
