  • Stephen was very helpful, quickly responding to any questions I had about the accommodation.

Tenang House is just a lovely place; and the family that hosts this stay is very kind, and available to answer any questions you have.

The rooms are very clean, there is AC for the warm nights, and the rooms look out onto the house gardens, beautiful!

  • Stephen is the perfect host. He responds on time with detailed answers to questions we had within 24 hours. He is very flexible and helpful. We booked one night but end up staying 4. The inn is super clean and quiet. The inn owners live here with the guests and it feels really special to observe them go about their daily life from morning offerings and praying, bathing the babies and doing their laundry. Stephen can arrange airport pickup and daily excursion car rentals.

    Response from Stephen:

    HI Sri

Thankyou for the kind words. We were happy to have you back, the perfect guest :)

  • We thought of staying here only for the two first nights, but we liked this place and the people here really much and decided to stay for 14 days instead. It's pretty close to everything - the beach, the restaurants and other stuff. The hosts provide all necessary help - showing you the places you want to find, renting the bike, arranging surfing lessons, rafting and other activities. They have lots of friends, so you may get pretty good discounts, like 50% for some activities. The rooms are good enough - we didn't need much though. It is clean, the family always has some cold beer for you and they are really open for a chat.
It is a really good and friendly place to stay

  • We had a great time at Kubu Kauh, the staff and family were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The place itself was quiet and peaceful despite being so close to Kuta and Legian beach.

  • Stephen's guest house was rather convenient, there are shops and restaurants about 5 mins walk away. There is a convenient store just 1 min outside the entrance of the guest house. People there were friendly and changed our rooms immediately when we reported about a window with a faulty lock when we arrived. Driver was arranged for us about SGD13 from the airport at 9pm. However, the mosquitoes and the bathroom were a problem. We bought a total of 3 bottles of mosquito repellent over 4 days D: the mosquitoes in the room were really crazy but after the repellent was sprayed EVERYWHERE, the room was really cosy with a television and aircon. The bathroom was a little musty smelling and very poor ventilation. I am quite particular about bathrooms so it was an issue for me. But if you are just looking for a functional place to shower, there is hot water so not to worry. Overall, the stay was okay, I would say. Not fantastic but for the price, I think it was quite worth it. :)

  • I really love this place.family members are friendly and helpful.only walking distance to legian street market and 5 minutes walking distance to legian and kuta beach.this place surroundings are peaceful.

  • Stayed here two nights at the end of my trip and overall felt I got my money's worth.

Everyone who worked there was super nice and went out of their way to be helpful, including venturing out to the streets to hunt down a Taxi when I was on my way to the airport. Thank you for your hospitality!

The A/C worked perfectly, the water in the shower was hot, the furniture was nice and I got a good night's sleep. As a bonus, my room had a handy space by the bathroom for storing surf boards.

Both nights I stayed, there was karaoke going on somewhere nearby until midnight. At least I hope it was karaoke and not a band. I could hear this pretty well in my room. I can sleep through anything so it didn't bother me, but may be a factor if you're not like that.

    Some improvement suggestions:

The listing is called "New Guesthouse only 2 mins to beach", which is not very accurate, as it takes 6 minutes to walk to the beach. You could ride a bike or a scooter in 2 minutes, but I believe most people would assume walking time.

"Deluxe & New" are words used in the listing, but "Nice and New-ish" would probably be more accurate. All the amenities listed were indeed there, which is fine for this price. Something more would be required for a "deluxe" qualification—maybe a bigger TV, DVD player and a sofa. The paint job could use a refresh (doesn't look that new).

The bathroom was a little weird. It could maybe use some real tiles instead of the designe-y porous stone it's built out of. The drainage in the bathroom is a trough running around the edges of the room to a drain in the corner, which is a novel idea, but this one had some water and dirt standing in it, which resulted in a not-so-fresh smell.

My sheets had been washed, but still had some stains on them. Get some bleach, guys!

The room was clean, but not spotless. Pretty much the same level that you find elsewhere in Bali apart from the higher end places.

The spot on the map in the listing is not the exact location, which can lead you astray if you use the map instead of the instructions provided. This should be easy to fix.

Again, this is a good bang for your buck for the location and overall comfort.

  • We had a very enjoyable 12 nights at Villa Cempaka. I found the location to be perfect, being only a 2 minute walk into the heart of Legian, 5 min walk to the beach and an easy 10 minute walk into the heart of Kuta. With all the hustle and bustle at its doorstep we were pleasantly surprised to find the villa situated down a private driveway in a little compound amongst other private villas and a pretty big pond allowing the Villa to be both central but also quiet. Perfect!!

The Villa itself was neat and tidy, the furnishings could do with a bit of an upgrade to modernise it but other than that was not really a concern.
The pool was of perfect (email hidden)freshing without being too cold or too warm.
Air con in both bedrooms worked very well but would have been nice if the main living area had some air con too.
Showers had nice hot water and lots of pressure. A little bit grotty as they are cladded with stone (tiles would be much nicer and cleaner) but still it didn't affect our stay.

Cleaners were wonderful and cheerful and did a great job, always bringing us new towels and changing our sheets. The pool and garden were attended to daily.
Probably would have been a bit nicer if the cleaners had a cleaning cupboard rather than leaving all the mops and brooms etc by the outdoor shower but Nevermind :)

We managed to get ourselves around on scooters daily but got in contact with Bim the driver to take us to the airport! What a great guy!! We wished we had met him earlier just for the sake of meeting him :) I would definitely recommend him if anyone needed a driver and has excellent English.

All in all Villa Cempaka was great value for what it was worth. I recommend it to anyone thats not too fussy and wants to be amongst all the action but still able to get a quiet nights sleep :)

I must also mention that Stephen the host was awesome to deal with, although he was away when we were there he still kept in contact to check we were all ok!! Very nice :)

    I'd stay again :)
