About this listing
Spacious private apartment five minutes walk from downtown Whitefish. Conveniently located for a ski vacation without a car. Just five minutes walk from the train station and the bus stop for the free snow bus that takes you up the to ski lodge.
Modern garage studio apartment built in 2002. There is radiant floor heating through out which keeps the place nice and cozy even on the coldest day. There is full queen bed and an IKEA sofa bed that converts to a queen size bed. There is a modest kitchen area with a microwave, gas stove/oven, full size refrigerator and stainless steel sink. However, there is not a lot of food preparation space available and limited selection of cooking utensils provided; so if you are looking to do any serious cooking, this listing is not for you. The apartment is in the same building as my other AirBnB listing; so there may be other guests on the premises during your stay.
Summer Guests Please Read This Before Booking:
My place does not have air conditioning. In the summer it can get quite hot during the daytime. So if you plan to spend a lot of time in apartment in the afternoon then this may be an issue for you. I do have several fans available in the apartment, but please check out the typical daytime temperatures for Whitefish when deciding if you want to book my place. Also when you send your request please indicate in your request that you are OK with out air conditioning; so that I know that you have read this. Thanks
The apartment has a land line phone that you can use to make calls back to Canada at no cost to you.
FINALLY. Please Read the Reviews. Many of the former guests mention things that might be important to you.
Guests will have the second floor studio apartment all to themselves. The garage is completely detached from the main house providing a great deal of privacy. Access to the apartment is via an electronic lock whose access code is changed after every guest for security. Since there is no key, members of your party can come and leave they please with out worrying about tying up the group. The first floor is a working garage where I have a lot of my gear stored. Guests are welcome to store their gear on the first floor garage area. I have a large paved outdoor patio in the backyard that guests are welcome to use any time they wish. I just ask that you to be respectful of the elderly neighbor and keep the noise level down.
Interaction with Guests
I travel quite a bit for work; so I may not be present on the premises during your stay. If I am around, I will be in the main house which is completely detached from the garage studio; so you will have a lot of privacy if you want it. However, should I be in town when you visit, I would love to do stuff with you if you want someone to show you around the valley. If I am not at home during your stay, I will have a friend look after you should you need anything, or to answer your questions if something comes up.
The house is nestled in a quiet picturesque residential neighborhood reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting. But just a few minutes walk away is downtown Whitefish which offers the best restaurants, gift-shops, galleries, bars, and nightlife in the entire Flathead Valley
You will have parking access on the garage driveway. In addition there is plenty of street parking next to the house. Most parking around Whitefish is free.
Getting to the ski hill. During the ski season, the Snow bus provides FREE shuttles between various Whitefish locations and the ski lodge. The nearest stop for the free Snow bus shuttle is 7 minutes walk from the house. The snow bus runs from 7am to 10 pm everyday during ski season.
Getting around the Valley.
There is a public bus service that runs between Whitefish, Kalispell, and Columbia Falls. One way ticket costs around $1.00. More information and schedules on their website at Flathead County Eagle Transit.
There is a small car rental office at the Whitefish train station seven minutes walk from the house. More car rental selection is available at Glacier International Airport.
Other Things to Note
I am pretty flexible with check in and check out if the scheduling other guests and the cleaning lady will allow it. Just ask.
No Illegal Stuff
Son's apartment was exactly as described and we spent a comfortable and enjoyable week in Whitefish. The location was perfect; an easy walk to everything in Whitefish and we enjoyed the restaurants, the Farmer's market, and Sweet Peaks (the ice cream store!) Son was a great host and his advice definitely enhanced our experiences in Glacier and in the surrounding area. We especially appreciated the honesty of Son's communication about the apartment; ie no air conditioning and a minimally equipped kitchen, though we did not find either of these things to be an issue. In fact we found the kitchen to be more than adequate for cooking simple meals and the fans were very helpful in keeping the apartment comfortable.
Amazing experience from start to finish! Quick response on everything and there place is perfect super close to downtown and super clean! Would recommend to anyone
Perfect location close to everything Whitefish has to offer.
The apartment was exactly as advertised (and extremely comfortable).
Would definitely stay here again!
A wonderful home base for our explorations in Glacier. The space was immaculate and the location couldn't be beat. I'd stay here again in a hearbeat. Thank you, Son!
Everything was great! The apartment was as described and felt bigger than it looks in the pictures. We had no issues getting into the apartment when we checked in and enjoyed walking to downtown Whitefish in the evenings. We used the apartment while we were visiting Glacier National Park and found it convenient for that.
We were very pleased with our stay in Whitefish, MT. The apartments was charming as depicted in the pictures. It was very roomy and comfortable. Although it was not air-conditioned, (the hosts were very up-front about that fact), it had plenty of fans. Our hosts were welcoming, helpful and always responded quickly to our emails. The location was very close to a delightful downtown. I highly recommend it
Son has a wonderful apartment perfectly located to town walking distance to everything! He and Amanda are incredibly welcoming and responsive. I really recommend staying here and I will definitely be back!

About the Host, Son
I am a management consultant who travels the world for work, but I try to come home to Whitefish as often as I can. I have used AirBnB both as a host and as a guest, and have not had a bad experience. On a personal note, I am an outdoors enthusiast and enjoy skiing, cycling, kayaking, archery and back-country camping. I also like all types of dancing, especially Argentine Tango and Lindy Swing.
