About This Listing
Stay in one of our two vacation cabins in beautiful, undiscovered Playa San Miguel. The Pacific Ocean is 100 feet away with hiking trails, horseback riding, surfing, and great restaurants only minutes away.
Play or relax — it’s your choice.
There are two identical 800-square-foot cabins, named Plenamar and Veramar. 100 feet from the beach, the cabins are surrounded by lush tropical gardens.
The first floor has two twin beds, two trundle beds, and a small kitchen/dining area. A covered porch opens to the garden, and there is an outdoor shower. The second floor has a bedroom with a queen-size bed and a bathroom.
Rooms have ceiling fans and AC. There are phones. Long-distance calls may be made with a pre-paid card. There is wi-fi and two internet cafés are nearby. The caretaker lives 100 yards away. She prepares a great breakfast and brings it to the cabins. It’s typical, tasty Costa Rican food: black rice and beans, tortillas, scrambled eggs, tropical fruit, and coffee. And it’s reasonably priced ($5 per person). She can also prepare lunches.
Location & Activities
The beaches of San Miguel and Playa Coyote are one uninterrupted ribbon of powdery sand that stretches for about 8 miles and is blissfully crowd-free. Until just a few years ago, very few people — other than the local residents and families from the capital, San Jose — came to these beaches. By the end of the 1990s, when the 5-star resort at Punta Islita (15 kilometers north of San Miguel) opened with a small airport, visitors started noticing San Miguel.
Activities include: Horse-back riding, surfing, swimming and watching wildlife in nearby estuaries, visiting the turtle conservation stations, hiking through the Jungle Butterfly Farm, and helicopter rides. Day trips one hour away include the beaches of Samara, Carrillo, and Nosara, and the town of SantaTeresa.
Cabins can be rented to 2 persons or 4 persons. There is no charge for kids under 7. Maximum in each cabin, including kids: 5
4 guests: $140 per night, minimum 3 nights
2 guests: $120 per night, minimum 3 nights
Additional guest: $15 per night (maximum of 5 guests per cabin)
What a find! Staying here was one of the highlights of our holiday. The house was right on the beach, the garden was beautiful and the house perfect. All extremely well maintained by very helpful locals and breakfasts by Dominga were extremely tasty. The beach is amazing with hardly anyone there at some points only my husband and I were on the beach. It was a great spot to get away from it all and enjoy the beach, ocean, nearby estuary and beautiful sunsets in peace and quiet away from crowds. Additionally, we borrowed the boogie boards and had great fun surfing the waves. food wise we ate at Laguna Mar, Pizza Tree and Locco Coccos all of which were excellent. Getting here was also fun with a lot of dirt roads so bring a 4x4 also watch out for the local residents crossing the road and I don't mean the people. If you are thinking of staying by the beach to chill out then look no further. Miguel is also a great host and responds quickly to emails.
Extremely nice house directly at the beach. Everything was just perfect!
This is our third trip to Miguel's place and it has always been a fantastic experience. There are not many places like San Miguel left in Costa Rica. If you are looking to get away from it all- from the development and crowds- that can mark many of the beaches on the pacific coast this is the spot- beautiful beach, peaceful, few people, and little development. The houses are very well maintained and clean and of course most importantly right on the beach- beautiful views and sound of the ocean and waves through the palm trees from the front patio and from the entire house. Miguel has always been a very attentive host- returning emails promptly and ready to pass along many tips and insights to the area. The folks helping with the properties in San Miguel are all extremely friendly and helpful. Thanks Miguel for another fantastic trip and look forward to our next visit. All the best.
