A comfortable and colourful double room with queen sized bed over looking the garden. The price includes continental breakfast.

The house is a 1948 traditional weatherboard bungalow, fully insulated, plus HRV system on 1/4 acre section. Two bedrooms listed on AirBnB; 1 double (this one), 1 single (The Srinagar Room) shared bathroom. Off street parking, plus bus stop 100 yds from the house. Good corner shop open 7.30am to 7.30pm across the street. The house is available for rental at times as well as flatting depending on my travel circumstances. (3 beds, one bath)
Almost flat cycleway into town (15 mins) along the waterfront. Freeview and broadband in the house. I also have an infra-red sauna and a lovely vegie patch at the back. :-)

  • I had a lovely time with Cally and Alex. Their home is very comfortable and welcoming and it is easy to relax and enjoy their company. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Nelson.

  • Cally and Alex are absolutely wonderful and were spectacular hosts! I had such a hoot talking with them that I truly wish I could have stayed with them much longer. She has a spacious and clean domicile with lovely quilts indeed! A great place to stay!

  • Cally's place is around a maximum 10 minute drive from the centre of Nelson and has a great cycle/walking path just at the bottom of her street that also takes you directly to the centre of Nelson. The room was as described and comfy. Cally has good local knowledge and has travelled extensively before, so it was great to chat about other countries and get some advice on my future travels. Thanks Cally (& Alex)!
Oh and the breakfast was a feast - very much appreciated!

  • The room Cally offers in her house is very cosy, lovely decorated and offers lots of storage space for your belongings. We spent two nights with Cally, her son Alex, a visiting friend and felt very comfortable in this easy going and relaxed household. We cooked in the kitchen, got fruits and veggies from Callies wonderful garden and shared the living room, the sunny terrace and wifi access. A little supermarket is just across the street. If you’ve got your own car the city centre is only a short drive away. We are looking forward to come back to Callies place soon and spend more time with her and Alex and highly recommend staying with them and their friendly cat!

  • Cally and her son Alex were wonderful! We had an excellent stay in Nelson. Cally's home is in a great place if you want to get to Nelson city center quickly. They allowed us use of their kitchen, which we used. They made us breakfast every morning, where we enjoyed conversation and got to know them better. They have lots of brochures about the Nelson area, which helped us plan out our day trips. Alex even took us flying in a 4-seat Cessna around the Tasman Bay Area! We really felt at home, and it was hard to say goodbye.

  • Lovely room with some thoughtful touches. Cally was a friendly and attentive host offering us a cup of tea with a teapot and teacosy when we arrived. Both Cally and her son provided us a wad of brochures and tips which guided our visit to Nelson. Easy going and relaxed household!

  • Cally was an absolutely wonderful host!!! She made us feel at home right away. We had a beautiful breakfast each morning and even shared her dinner one night! She is a fascinating , energetic woman with a purpose. Her work with Nepal and Tibet is inspiring. Needless to say, we had a wonderful visit and would highly recommend staying with her.

About
I'm a photographer, single, with two grown up sons. I'm based in Nelson NZ for the majority of the time but a great traveller, usually in Asia and in particularly in India and Nepal. I spend time every year in Nepal and/or Northern India where I catch up with my various sponsored children (mainly Tibetan) and see the projects of First Steps HImalaya, a NZ charity that works with poor rural Himalayan communities providing early childhood education and community health programs. I've just stepped down as Chair of the charity, but like to keep up to date with what is going on. I work for the charity on a voluntary basis as well which I love doing. I also provide photos for a few other charities that I'm connected with on an ad hoc basis. Another passion is working with Tibetans and helping in different ways. I've sponsored children since 1989, and am still sponsoring them. The newest member of my ever increasing family is two years old. I have an interest in Tibetan Buddhism but win no prizes as a practitioner. My only claim to fame is as the official photographer of His Holiness Dalai Lama when he comes to NZ. He was here in June last year. (2013) Favourite places of all time - Pagan, Burma, (but haven't been since 1987 so it is probably rather different now) Sapa Vietnam, Pangon Tso Ladakh & Nelson NZ! Favourite places for a holiday - Turkey and Vietnam. Places yet to visit - top of the list: Bolivia, Namibia and Ethiopia. I backpack but have no problem travelling business class!! I seem to have a pretty strong constitution when travelling which is fortunate and eat from street stalls. I love yoga - but don't do it enough, despite Nelson having at least 7 yoga centres! I love sailing but don't do as much as I would like now, used to own a 30ft Gary Mull designed yacht. Last few trips off the south coast of Turkey. Last year I went to the Lofoten Islands (68ºN) in July, one of the best trips ever and with endless daylight! Such a beautiful place. I'm looking at going back and even further north with the same charter company…. I published a book on 'Blurb' of the trip. I'm a mad keen Jane Austen fan, but also love Dickens and Scott - and what I call industrial revolution literature - Gaskell, Zola, Gissing. I always try and read books from the country I'm in at the time. Three recent books that have stayed with me are "Nothing to Envy" by Barbara Demmick (2009) about North Korea - couldn't put it down; "The Gate" by Francoise Bizot (2003) about the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia and "The Snow Geese" by William Fiennes. Fiennes writes brilliant prose - not many young people can do that. Essentially I'm a creative - quilting, embroidery, gardening, some writing, websites but I'm not scatty. I'm pretty good on order and structure. I'm used to travelling so know what people want when they are away from home. I like to think that friends and guests feel comfortable enough while staying with me to feel at home and relaxed and are not on their 'best behaviour' - but I don't tolerate drunkenness. I'm a non smoker. Well behaved pets are welcome. I grew up on a farm and was surrounded by animals so feel very happy on dry land as well as on the sea!
