We're Bishnu and Dipak: a couple that united in love marriage long before that became common in Nepal which resulted in two clever daughters: Samiksha (17) and Safal (14). Dipak works as a journalist in Nepal and Bishnu has a freelance job in insurance. 10 years ago we made a Belgian friend and now we have a lot of Belgian friends who stay in our house when they come to Kathmandu. We also visited them in Europe and now we are really enjoying the interaction with visitors. Our motto is to host our guests as a Nepali family. We are always ready to serve you Nepali food on nominal price. Free tea and coffee. You can cook your food. We can fix up to four people comfortably.

Very nice, happy and helpful family ! We enjoyed our stay (and we' ll miss them). Dipak is also a perfect guide in Kathmandu! And the house is pretty and well located. Thank you again for the time we spent together and all your advices.
Staying with this family was like a gift from universe. I arrived 10 days after the earthquake of 25/04 and stayed nearly two weeks, together with Marieke who already knew the family very well. We went trough many earthquake-moments and I can assure you the house is earthquake-proof ;)
They made me feel like home in seconds. Dipak dai is the most optimistic person I've ever met and I had lots of cosy and fun moments chitchatting with Bishnu didi (great cook btw!) and Samu. Safal, the younger sister was not in KTM at the time I was there.
They are more than happy to help you out with no matter what.
The room is very nice and the bed is the best. The time I was here, there was very few noise of the policeground nearby....
WiFi connection worked as good as you can aspect in Nepal.
You arrive as a guest, you go home as a familymember.
Tip: chocolates are highly appreciated in this household :)
I have had a great time with Dipak and Bishnu whilst in kathmandu. They are both very welcoming and love to talk about your day and the history and culture in Nepal. The food Bishnu makes is excellent and plentiful! The room is very clean and tidy and on the upper level of the house next to a bathroom. The house is not in the usual tourist district of Thamel which is nice because it gives you a taste of genuine kathmandu living. Thamel is only a 20 minute walk away however, and the main roads through and around the city are very nearby. There is a police training academy nearby and most morning you awake to hear their band practice which is actually a really nice uplifting start to the day! Overall I would thoroughly recommend a stay with Dipak and Bishnu, it has been so nice experiencing a part Nepali culture that you can't get staying at a hotel or hostel.
Bishnulaai, Dipaklaai, Safal and Somu welcomed me as part of their family. In no time it became my homebase far away from home. Everything to get to know what is going on in the country is in handreach. 4 different newspapers arrive every morning, there is wifi.. but more important the family will help you to understand and to get you around. Something to keep in mind.. They love chocolate and cheese ;). From there house you can get very easy to any place in the city, as it is only a 2 min walk to the ringroad. This is a never ending story.. Only possitive words to discribe. please remember they like to take you in as family and not as a guest of some kind of hotel..
I am always brutally honest when leaving reviews and I would like to begin by saying how Bishnu and her family were extremely nice and welcoming during my stay but there are a few things I would like to point out that I believe those who plan to stay must know.
1) Bed is very comfortable
2) Quiet neighborhood (except in the morning)
3) nice family who constantly offers you coffee or tea
4) lots of soaps to choose from
1) Wifi only works in the house not in the room (so I could not use internet unless I was in their house)
2) 30-45 minute walk to Thamel
3) Unlike other BNBs food is not constantly provided or served it is more upon request which consist of some sort of left overs
4) Shower works very poorly
5) Woken up every morning by an orchestra and by shots fired by police academy (starts at 6am)
6) Electricity and shower sometimes just turns off
7) They lock the gate and the door to the apartment at night. I got locked out twice and had to jump the gate which led me to rip my bag.
I think Bishnu and her family are more used to travelers coming and joining their family for the time they are there. Although I would love to spend time with this nice Nepali family, I had my own plans and list of things to do and this was kind of a shock to them since I think they were only used to travelers who would be with the family.
At night, they for some reason lock the outside gate and outside door of the apartment. I think they should only lock it if their guest has access to a key to open it.. Although I was introduced to the family, I still have my own life to live and stuff to do and it is my right as an individual renting and paying for a room to come home when I like and NOT BE LOCKED OUT!
In my week staying there I had not come home later than 11 but each time seemed to be locked out.
I think they are very nice but just do not understand that renting a room out to travelers means there should be a constant access to their room no matter what time it is.. The worst was the feeling that they gave me as if I was at fault that I had come home "late" without previously informing the family. I did not have a Nepali Sim and again I did not chose to travel Asia to have to report to someone on when I come home..
I hope they put a lock in the gate with a key and fix the wifi in the room. I understand the noise at 6am and electricity & shower cuts are out of their control but there is a lot to improve for me to recommend this place.
We had a great stay at Dipaks and Bishnu's house and we will return there in 2 weeks again (after our trekking) Since Dipak was in London, we only met Bishnu and their daughters. They are so nice and friendly. They made us feel right at home! The room is really comfortable, nice bed and blanket. And hot water shower. We don't mind walking, so the 25 minute walk to Thamel is okay. Just go there!
