About this listing
Chilling and relaxing traditional nipa hut "bahay kubo" of filipino family good for 2 persons. There are 3 common bathrooms: one with hot shower within the bungalow house, the second is in the bamboo house and the third one is an outdoor bathroom.
It is a traditional Filipino nipa hut in the middle of passionfruit trees and palm trees. It is about 15 minutes from the centre of Puerto Princesa, so you can get to know the local cultures and Filipino taste of living of people around here. My place is good for meditation, feeling free and relaxation. There are different places where you can sit together, eat and cook or just chill in one of six hammocks in my beautiful garden. Furthermore you can book tours and activities easily from here.
You can go by tricycle every time and reach city points very fast, cheap and uncomplicated. A pick up service from airport is also possible on request. Additional we can do your laundry and wifi is useful.
Interaction with Guests
If my time allows I can be your Dive Instructor for scuba diving or just take you for fun diving. Show you the most nice places around the town and whole Palawan. As I owned travel tours it is easy for your booking on some tours or getting further. I can also show you nice bars with live music, where to get a good massage and bring you to nice local and vegetarian restaurants and even jam with me in my music gig.
The helpfulness of my friends and neighbors around are overwhelming. They are friendly and open minded to my guests every time. The area is very quiet and peaceful. There are bakery, sugar cane juice shop, local restaurants and some grocery stores in the nearby. The beach is 15 minutes walk away.
You can get further by tricycle
every time very easy! In case I can also help you rent a scooter or motorcycle.
Other Things to Note
You can also rent the private rooms, bamboo room with gecko painting, bamboo room and four bed dorm extended bamboo room in the bungalow house, tree house, bamboo tree house, bamboo eagle's house and the bamboo house - watch my other offers!!!
All rooms are with fan.
In my place it is self-catering, so I expect that you help keep the kitchen clean. Animals are not allowed because i have 3 cats and 2 dogs and I dont know if they would agree. Inside the house you will be walking in barefoot like the "ancient civilization".
We have kust had a great time staying in the Nipa Hut at Jonathans Bamboo Nest. Unfortunately we weren't able to meet Jonathan personally, but he was very helpful before we arrived, providing lots of local information and tips. When we arrived we were met at the airport by Jonathans neighbour, Roger, and his tricycle. When we arrived at Bamboo nest Jonathans sister, Joyce, showed us around and again, was lovely, and really helpful. Roger was a legend throught our stay, always on hand to give us a ride. We only stayed for a short time, but Jonathan can help keep a longer stay interesting and full of activities. Or you cam just chill out in truly authentic surroundings with a little bamboo twist. We loved it, and would definitely recommend the place to anyone wanting to live with the local people, in a clean, comfortable and fun location.
Johnathan is a very friendly guy and his accommodation is great. I can recommend his rooms to everyone traveling in palawan.
He helps you out with everything.
I can't be happier with my choice to stay in the "Bahay Kubo" at Bamboo Nest for 5 weeks. Not only was it perfectly comfortable accommodation with an atmosphere of total relaxation, but it was a great place to make friends with other travellers and Jonathan, the owner is so kind and generous. He will take you to cool bars at night if he is around and he always helped me book tours if I wanted- the whale shark tour and the fireflies were highlights!.. Most amazingly, he is a scuba dive instructor, so I was able to get my Open Water Dive licence with him.
The neighbours are really friendly and generous and sometimes offered to share their lunch or dinner. You have everything you need to be comfortable here. The kitchen and bathroom have all of the comforts that you need, although the shower pressure isn't great. However, if bad shower pressure is the kind of thing that's going to ruin your holiday, I don't know how you ended up in the Philippines! Ha ha! Also, you can pay to get someone to wash your laundry here or, you can hand wash it yourself- just ask Jonathan. I chose to hand wash and highly recommend it as an almost meditative practice! :)
Anyway, I can't recommend Jonathan's place enough. There is always something to do and someone to talk to. Or if you want, plenty of hammocks and space for you to chill out by yourself.
This was a wonderful experience and I will definitely be back- hopefully sooner rather than later. And maybe I will be better at Tagalog by then...! See you soon Jonathan!
Jonathan was a great host. He instantly made us feel welcome as he showed us to our Nipa Hut, and then gave us a tour of the rest of the facilities. Our room was clean and comfortable. The shared bathrooms were meticulously clean, as was the kitchen and the rest of the facilities.
Was such a great find in Palawan. Great host who makes you feel at home and awesome rooms. Will visit again!
Jonathan was very welcoming, it was so nice to meet him upon arrival. I loved the Hut, very clean, had power and a ceiling hut. It was very authentic and a good experience. The neighborhood is very mixed and it adjacent to a military base, so access was with back dirt roads very rocky. Downtown restaurants are not that close by. The property is just delightful and one of the cleanest and most pleasant places I have stayed. I loved meeting people from all over the world staying at the Guest House. Jonathan is a fantastic host and I would not hesitate to stay with him again.
The Bamboo Nest is truly a hidden gem right outside the center of Puerto Princesa. The property is spacious, clean, and relaxing with tons of public space (hammocks, tables, 3 bathrooms, benches, self-serving kitchen). If you appreciate a rural community, you'll also enjoy roosters crowing, dogs barking, tricycles revving, crickets chirping and more. It was a great place to start my trip through northern Palawan.
Jonathan was a fantastic host. He sat down with me and my friend several times throughout our stay to chat -- sometimes offering fresh fruit and other snacks. He has a fine sense of humor and gave solid advice on backpacking Palawan and exploring Puerto Princesa. I will definitely stay there again next time I'm in the area! Thanks Jonathan.
