We live right next door, so you may well see us, please say hello! We are always on hand to supply information and tips about our neighborhood and the rest of New Orleans, but we will leave you in peace to enjoy it!
Bywater is classic New Orleans, but without the brashness and noise of the French Quarter.
We now offer complimentary bicycles, complete with locks and helmets, for our guests (just a refundable deposit required). This makes it real easy to get around as New Orleans has NO HILLS! Also bus route no.5 runs by the end of the block straight to the French Quarter and downtown areas. There is free on-street parking right outside the house.

Matt and Dusty are doing it right in the Big Easy. They provide a clean, secure, and cozy place to stay in the Bywater. They were great about communication and they told us where to find a key upon arrival. We were greeted not long afterwards, but we were given our space for the remainder of our stay. They left us with good information about places in the neighborhood and provided bikes and helmets to explore. Some nice touches to the rental included the chilled bottle of Pinot upon arrival, coffee cups for the Krups coffee maker, and ayurveda soap in the slate shower. All in all it is a great bargain in a cozy neighbor and much quieter than the quarter. It's a $10.00 dollar cab ride to the French Quarter.
We had a great time at Matt and Dusty's place. Very close to the French Quarter (within walking distance). We did everything that was recommended to us and enjoyed the wine that was left for us. Very comfortable bed and did not lack for anything that we needed. Thanks for sharing your home with us.
Dusty and Matt were amazing hosts. Their garden cottage is perfect, and the bywater is or favorite part of New Orleans. They left us cold water and wine in the fridge, fresh soaps, and paid attention to all of the details. Best experience we could've hoped for.
Matt and Dusty's apartment is a great place to stay when visiting NOLA. We had a great time and LOVED the neighborhood. There were so many great things around, including awesome food and music. The available bikes made it easy to get to other parts of the city and we were able to explore the Garden District, City Park and Treme with them at our disposal. The room itself is lovely and the bed super comfortable!!
We had a great experience at Matt and Dusty's. They were away on holiday so Matt's sister helped us out. She greeted us when we arrived, gave great recommendations for local spots and was on hand throughout the week for anything we may have needed. There were a lot of storms when we were there so wifi was very touch and go. We got updates from our host about this all the time, which was really helpful.
The neighbourhood of Bywater is amazing! We are so happy we ended up staying where we did. It felt very safe and there were wonderful restaurants, bars (with great gigs!) and interesting cafes and art shops all over the area. We actually spent more time there than we did in the French Quarter, which we found a bit too touristy.
The accommodation itself was perfect. Really clean, comfortable, a good size for two and very handy to have the kitchen for cooking light meals to save some money here and there. They even left us coffee and wine as a welcome gift.
We had a great time at Dusty and Matt's! Communication was easy and fast. Everyone we interacted with was warm and kind. The neighborhood and the unit itself is very safe and comfortable. We love Bywater! It was a blast watching shows at Vaughan's, riding bikes to Frenchmen St., getting coffee and yummy eats at Satsuma, having wine at Bacchanal, and just relaxing in the garden. Matt and Dusty's is a great spot to stay in New Orleans, and we would come back for sure!
Dusty (I never met Matt) was wonderful-gives you your own space if you need it but also willing to help out if his guests are in a bind, which is what happened when my purse was stolen. Although his phone was turned off when the incident happened, as soon as he got my panicked messages he was driving down to canal st to pick me up and distract me with a wonderful conversation about the mobile vet clinic he runs and his animal rescue work. He drove me to Elizabeth's the next morning so I could eat my troubles away. The place itself is lovely: clean, comfortable (great bed and bedding!) and the patio is magical. The bikes are a great extra-you can easily ride to the FQ on historical streets with no traffic in about 15 minutes. If I come back to New Orleans I will be staying here!

About the Host, Matt McShee
Matt and Dusty love New Orleans so much, we want y'all to come and stay at our house so you can fall in love with it too. We travel a lot, but coming home to the "Big Easy" is always a pleasure. Dusty is a true Southern Gentleman, born in New Orleans, raised in Alabama. Matt is a Scot, raised in London, who moved to New Orleans on a temporary assignment, and fell in love with the city and the people. There is nowhere else we'd rather be for Mardi Gras, Jazzfest, Southern Decadence, Halloween etc. Laissez les bons temps roulez!
