The Space

My House is situated between the town and the quay area. It is a 10 minute walk to town,( you can stroll into town along the old railway line which is now a popular walking area.) It is a 5minute walk to the Quay area and Westport House. Westport is a unique and charming heritage town. It was voted best place to live in in Ireland by Irish Times readers in 2012. Ireland West Airport is 1hr away, Shannon Airport 2and half hrs, Dublin Airport 4hrs away. Westport has lots of outdoor activities to offer, eg. Gael Force, Sea2Summit . You can also avail of boat trips from the quay area. Other activities include hiking, fishing, horse riding, spas, surfing. There are also many stunning beeches to enjoy. No visit to Westport would be complete without a visit to Croagh Patrick (The Reek) which is a 10 mins drive away. The newly established great western greenway starts in Westport. The greenway is the longest off-road cycle and walking trail in Ireland. Built upon the old railway line between Achill Sound in the north and Westport to the southeast of clew bay, it extends for 43.5 km (27 miles) . It also won 1st prize at the European greenways development completion.
When you are tired out after all the activities you can relax either in my home, or you can visit some of the many restaurants in town or at the quay. If you are cooking dinner I will provide fresh organic vegetables from my garden when in season, or you can have a barbeque in my private secluded garden. After dinner you can use the front sitting room to relax by the fire and watch a film, or you can stroll into town to visit some of the many music pubs. Matt Molloy of the Chieftians has a great music pub.
If there is anything you need during your stay I will be very happy to try and provide it, as I want all my guests to have a really good time in my home.

Guest Access

The guests have full access to the kitchen and living room at all times. The bathroom is shared with me, and I also have a small bathroom downstairs.

Interaction with Guests

I am around for guests who need any info about the area, or need any help during their stay. I also know how to give guest privacy especially if they want to cook a meal in the evenings.

The Neighborhood

I love the fact that you can walk down to the quay area and see the boats, or go for a walk down to Westport house. We also have a nice flat walk into town along an old railway line which has been made in to a walking and cycling way.

Getting around

There is a train station and buses come from all over Ireland. Free private parking at my house.

Other Things to Note

I also have a single room to let, its titled Cosy single room breakfast included.

  • We had a very comfortable and relaxed stay here for a few nights. Ruth was very friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home straight away. Its in a good spot with nice walks from the house into town via westport house or other scenic routes.

    Great value stay.

  • Ruth (email hidden)e did welcome us like if we had been friends for a long time. She offered us fresh vegetables and herbs directly from our garden for our simple dinner we prepared using her kitchen. She went out during the evening and showed trust in us. We were able to park our car off street in her driveway. We had a very good night sleep. We highly recommend Ruth's B&B.

  • We loved our stay in Westport. Ruth (email hidden) who was so friendly and incredibly nice. She offered to pick us up from the bus and was there waiting for us when we arrived.

The room was clean and cozy, and we loved seeing Croagh Patrick from our window.

Ruth provided great food including some great strawberries and carrots from her garden. The garden was gorgeous and reminded me of home :)

  • Ruth was a kind and generous host. She truly opened her house to us, giving access to anything we could need including breakfast fixings, laundry and her lovely backyard garden. If you are looking for fancy and private, look elsewhere, but if you want to be welcomed into someone's home this is a great option. Easy walking or biking access to town.

  • Ruth is the most charming and caring hostess we've met! The room is very cosy and comfortable (you could almost sink into the carpeted floor!), overlooking Ruth's beautiful little garden, and the bathroom is nice and clean.
But what really makes it a wonderful experience is that Ruth is full of little attentions and really makes you feel comfortable. She helped us in many ways, including by picking us up at the bus station (giving us a little orientation tour of the way so that we wouldn't get lost) and driving us back, even though the place is totally within walking distance of the town center.
We would definitely recommand this place!

She welcome us with special attentions (water, chocolate, very nice books about the area and the walk to do around). the room is lovely and Ruth makes everything to make you feel like you're at home ! She gave us very nice advices, specially for the music. She recommend us a music session we won't forget !!

  • Ruth's place feels like being a guest at a family home. It's cosy, clean, has a good bed and shower and as a bonus a great kitchen too! Ruth made me feel very welcome in Westport
The house is a short walk from the center of Westport (either way along the main road or along the green cyclist/pedestrian path which crosses the city). Westport is both a charming Irish town and a great hub for exploring Mayo County. I had a great day cycling the Greenway which starts in Westport and another walking near nearby Crough Patrick.

Thank you Maarten, I am glad you got the weather to cycle the greenway, and that sounds like an interesting walk you did at the back of Croagh Patrickl. Ruth.

  • Ruth was an absolutely wonderful host. She is warm and friendly and made us feel right at home. My fiance and I were visiting to complete the Tochar Padraig, a 21 mile ancient pilgrimage from Ballintubber Abbey to Croagh Patrick (where he proposed! A truly memorable visit indeed). Ruth was so generous to accompany us to leave our car at the base of Croagh Patrick, and then drive us to Ballintubber Abbey, so that our car would be waiting for us upon completing our trek. She was so helpful as we made our plans, even making us some hard boiled eggs for the morning of our journey and calling her doctor for us when my fiance was bitten by a dog along the way (he's fine!). Her home is clean, comfortable, and so inviting. We couldn't have asked for a better stay.

    Response from Ruth:

Thank you Bonnie, yes indeed it was a memorable visit, not many people get proposed to on the top of Croagh Patrick. Well done on completing the Tochar Padraigh, no mean feat. In fact the Tochar actually finishes at the shoulder of Croagh Patrick, so getting to the top as well was a huge achievement. I hope it is always a special memory for you. Ruth.

  • Familiar atmosphere, comfortable home, kitchen share, Ruth is very gentle and available person. The strawberries directly from her garden are super!
We like so much talk with her drinking good cup of tea in front of stove.
Quite quarter, we have slept kindly.
We hope to come again in future. We fully suggest.
