It was voted best place to live in in Ireland by Irish Times readers in 2012. Ireland West Airport is 1hr away, Shannon Airport 2and half hrs, Dublin Airport 4hrs away. Westport has lots of outdoor activities to offer, eg. Gael Force, Sea2Summit . You can also avail of boat trips from the quay area. No visit to Westport would be complete without a visit to Croagh Patrick (The Reek) which is a 10 mins drive away. The newly established great western greenway starts in Westport. The greenway is the longest off-road cycle and walking trail in Ireland. Built upon the old railway line between Achill Sound in the north and Westport to the southeast of clew bay, it extends for 43.5 km (27 miles) . It also won 1st prize at the European greenways development completion.
When you are tired out after all the activities you can relax either in my home, or you can visit some of the many restaurants in town or at the quay. If you are cooking dinner I will provide fresh organic vegetables from my garden when in season, or you can have a barbeque in my private secluded garden. After dinner you can use the front sitting room to relax by the fire and watch a film, or you can stroll into town to visit some of the many music pubs. Matt Molloy of the Chieftians has a great music pub.

I am around for guests who need any info about the area, or need any help during their stay. I also know how to give guest privacy especially if they want to cook a meal in the evenings.
I love the fact that you can walk down to the quay area and see the boats, or go for a walk down to Westport house. We also have a nice flat walk into town along an old railway line which has been made in to a walking and cycling way.
There is a train station and buses come from all over Ireland. Free private parking at my house.
Other Things to Note
I also have a single room to let, its titled cosy single room breakfast and bikes included.
There is no smoking in the house. Smoking outside with ashtray only.. If you are cooking please put dishes in dishwasher and tidy up after you, thanks. No pets allowed. I would prefer if guests would not wear outdoor shoes upstairs. I can provide indoor shoes for guests, crocks.
Ruth was incredibly welcoming and even picked us up from the station. On the way back to the house Ruth went to great lengths to show us the main sights in the town. The accommodation itself surpassed our expectations; Ruth had left no stone unturned in preparing it for guests. The bikes Ruth supplied were in excellent condition and really helped us get around the town with ease. All in all, Ruth was a fantastic host and really added to our weekend. If we are in the area we would definitely stay again!
We had two excellent days in the Westport area of Co. Mayo. Ruth is a wonderful person. She made all her guests staying feel welcome and supplied all (and more) as posted in her listing. The house was easy to find and is in a quiet area of Westport, 15 min walk to the center and 5 min to the quay area, near restaurants and supermarkets. We were set on biking and Ruth went out of her way to deliver the promised bicycles (going to the extent of renting an extra bike for us to use). Many things in her house and in the room are lovely and show a nice touch, including the lavender on the pillows. We had a great time and if possible will return for a longer stay - there is much to see and many mountains to hike.
Ruth is such a warm and inviting person that she makes you feel completely comfortable and at ease in her home. The room is large and clean with one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in. Her home is in a great location in which you can easily walk to the Quay, the town center or to the local grocery store. Next time I'm in Westport, I'll definitely stay with Ruth.
I really enjoyed staying with Ruth. The room was very comfortable and we were made feel at home. Ruth was an excellent host going out of her way to help when our car broke down. I would absolutely recommend staying with Ruth when next in Westport.
Lovely , comfy bed, lovely fresh linen, quiet , lovely bathroom , chocolate by the bed ! Freshly squeezed orange juice, lots of nice thoughtful touches. Ruth takes the job of making your stay the best possible seriously and succeeds
Ruth was a great host! She welcomed us and made us feel at home. She has a lovely house and she seems to be experienced in hosting and Airbnb. Her house is really near Westport's harbor, which is a really nice place to eat and have some nice time. She had everything more than ready for breakfast. We highly recommend her house for a nice stay in Westport.
This was a cozy, comfortable place to stay with a wonderful host and many amenities. I borrowed the bicycle and followed the greenway both in to town and to the quay/water--both of which are a beautiful and short ride away. Ruth could not have been more hospitable. She left plentiful items for breakfast and allowed me to cook in the kitchen any time I wanted. She also made me a hot water bottle each night as I was slightly chilled having come directly from a heat wave in Paris. This stay was well worth the money and perfect for a traveler on a budget. I can't recommend Ruth nor her sweet home more highly.
