I am offering a lovely cosy double room in my home. Breakfast is included in the price, I will provide fresh free range eggs, homemade bread, fruit, tea coffee, cereals, yogurt that you can help yourself to at any time. You have the use of the kitchen any time.
My House is situated between the town and the quay area. It is a 10 minute walk to town,( you can stroll into town along the old railway line which is now a popular walking area.) It is a 5minute walk to the Quay area and Westport House. Westport is a unique and charming heritage town. It was voted best place to live in in Ireland by Irish Times readers in 2012. Ireland West Airport is 1hr away, Shannon Airport 2and half hrs, Dublin Airport 4hrs away. Westport has lots of outdoor activities to offer, eg. Gael Force, Sea2Summit . You can also avail of boat trips from the quay area. Other activities include hiking, fishing, horse riding, spas, surfing. There are also many stunning beeches to enjoy. No visit to Westport would be complete without a visit to Croagh Patrick (The Reek) which is a 10 mins drive away. The newly established great western greenway starts in Westport. The greenway is the longest off-road cycle and walking trail in Ireland. Built upon the old railway line between Achill Sound in the north and Westport to the southeast of clew bay, it extends for 43.5 km (27 miles) . It also won 1st prize at the European greenways development completion.
When you are tired out after all the activities you can relax either in my home, or you can visit some of the many restaurants in town or at the quay. If you are cooking dinner I will provide fresh organic vegetables from my garden when in season, or you can have a barbeque in my private secluded garden. After dinner you can use the front sitting room to relax by the fire and watch a film, or you can stroll into town to visit some of the many music pubs. Matt Molloy of the Chieftians has a great music pub.
If there is anything you need during your stay I will be very happy to try and provide it, as I want all my guests to have a really good time in my home.
Staying with Ruth was like staying with your favorite aunt or sister. She’s warm, inviting and accessible. Her home is a home, and it was a privilege to be welcomed into it. Her kitchen is warm and cozy and the heart of her home. After we left, I totally missed getting to share our day with her over a cup of tea upon our return. Our room was lovely and the view of Crough Patrick spectacular. Her space is compact, but she ensures you have what you need. We loved the opportunity to get to witness her tending her woodstove, her gardens and her unique system of drying clothes. Ruth is delightful, and for those who’d like a genuine experience of Ireland, we’d highly recommend her home.
Well thank you very much Dan and Kathy. You were great guests to have and I am so glad you had a good experience here in Westport. It was great that you also got to climb Croagh Patrick, I hope you are out wearing your teeshirts! I am sure people will be wondering what my unique system of drying clothes is, Ha Ha they will just have to come and find out! All the best to you both, Ruth.
I had a terrific time in Westport! Ruth is a delightful, very friendly, welcoming and extremely caring host. Ruth knows so much about the area and had great suggestions on where I should go and about things to do. As I stayed in Westport for a couple of weeks Ruth even helped me find a bike (Westport is an ideal location for bike rides). The accommodation was clean, comfortable and situated in a great location only a short walk from the quay and a 15 minutes-walk from town center. I would definitely come back any time! Thank you, Ruth, for sharing your home and helping me to feel at home in Westport!
