Piazza Santa Croce is one of the largest and most famous squares of central Florence. The Basilica of Santa Croce, the largest Franciscan church in the world, overlooks the piazza. The basilica's most notable features are its sixteen chapels, many of them decorated with frescoes by Giotto and his pupils, and its tombs and cenotaphs. It is the burial place of some illustrious Italians, such as Michelangelo Buonarroti, Niccolò Machiavelli, Enrico Fermi, Galileo Galilei, Ugo Foscolo, Guglielmo Marconi, Luigi Cherubini, Leon Battista Alberti, Vittorio Alfieri, Gioacchino Rossini, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Lorenzo Bartolini, Pier Antonio Micheli, Bartolomeo Cristofori, and Giovanni Gentile. For this reason it also known as the Temple of the Italian Glories (Tempio dell'Itale Glorie). In front of the Basilica there is famous marble statue made by Enrico Pazzi decidated to Dante Alighieri, and formerly places in the middle of the piazza.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying in Niccolo's comfortable apartment. Niccolo is charming and he greeted us with a warm welcome. Great care has been made to ensure the furnishings, bedding, towels and upkeep of the apartment are kept to a very high standard. Everything was clean and functioned well. Niccollo showed us how to use the appliances and where everything was kept as well as sharing great insight in to ideas of where to visit and where to dine. If you chose to stay here be sure to follow Niccolo's advice on where to eat - you will not be disappointed! Another great aspect of the apartment is the location which is central and surrounded by ammenities such as a large local supermarket, the Santa Croce church, local shops and buses nearby. We highly recommend staying here.
A friend and I recently stayed in this apartment for 2 nights.
The location is incredible as it is not too noisy by night, yet the square of Santa Croce can be reached in 4 minutes, and the Duomo is also just 10 minutes away by foot!
It also happens to be on the same road as the secret bakery!! Open late.
Our host, Niccolo, provided us on arrival with a map of the city and recommendations for the best bars, restaurants and clubs!
He even lent us an Italian phone incase we needed to contact him.
