About This Listing
Experience the nature and peace of Carmel Valley at this rustic one bedroom hide-away. Upstairs loft is roomy with queen bed plus a single bed. Downstairs Studio has double fold-out with full kitchen and full bathroom. Unique and cozy, surrounded by acres of wild gardens, bridge over the creek and private entrance to Garland Park. Very near Carmel Valley Ranch, wineries, fine dining, resorts and minutes to either Carmel Valley Village, downtown Carmel and Pebble Beach.
This is a pet friendly property.
No smoking. $195 price is for one couple. Add $75 per night for up to 4 total guests. We recommend children only sleep downstairs as the ladder/staircase to the upstairs is very steep and not child-safe!
The studio cottage was a wonderful getaway spot and we absolutely loved it. There is hiking very nearby and Carmel by the Sea is a car ride away. The cabin is quiet and peaceful. The accommodations are of course a little rustic, but that helps you get away for a nice break from technology.
Everything was comfortable and nice. We cooked some great meals in the cabin and relaxed in the evenings. My wife and my dog were with me for the get-away and we all enjoyed the cabin.
Everything was as described. We were greeted upon arrival and the hosts gave us great recommendations about places to eat and visit in the area. There were fresh flowers, fruit and cookies inside the cottage. The stairs are a bit steep but definitely manageable. Overall great experience. Thanks!
We stayed in the Cottage for a couple of days as a base for exploring the Monterey peninsula. We had a great time.
The cottage itself is beautiful, comfortable, with a lot of space and handbuild(!) by the hosts (Mort and Julie) who live next door.
Mort and Julie we're very terrific, welcoming us, offering fresh vegetables from the garden and presenting us with freshly picked herbs upon departure. Maurine wasn't on-site, but always replied rightaway.
Highly recommendable. I'll gladly come again, if I'm in the area.
Everything was perfect about the Carmel Valley Cottage. The hosts (Mort and Julie) couldn't have been any nicer to us. You have everything you need at the cottage, including a full kitchen if you feel compelled to cook (a 24hr Safeway grocery is right down the street as well). The location is great, with ~15 minute drive to Monterey or Carmel-by-the-sea and even shorter distance to all the shops and wineries in Carmel Valley. The cottage is actually surprisingly spacious as well, which is difficult to judge from pictures. Skylights and windows coupled with a high ceiling ensure that you won't feel claustrophobic. Future guests should be warned that getting to the loft sleeping area entails traversing some rather steep stairs, but for most able-bodied individuals this shouldn't be too much of a concern.
Thanks for your thoughtful review and YES! I'm glad you bring up the steep and narrow ladder/stairs to the loft. I find them tricky myself so always try to make sure guests don't have any little ones or less physically able adults who could have a problem with them--ESPECIALLY since you would have to go down and up them to reach the bathroom at night! Thanks, Tom.
Maurine is super helpful and cooperative, but it is actually Mort and his wife Julie that own the next-door, larger house. They were kind enough to leave us with dried flowers as a memento, which made my car smell like lavender and sage, while we were on our way to the Monterrey Bay Aquarium and later Pebble Beach. It was delightful.
The cabin is quaint and a bit hippie-ish, but in a good way. (The Cal state flag diminishes this effect, a bit! :-) ) We gently used their record player, and Mort informed us that the VCR was functional.
The bathroom is adorable, parking is next to the cabin, just in front of the property's small garden. The loft upstairs is a little bit difficult to descend if you have large or stocking feet, but the skylight is wonderful and the bed is comfortable. We did hear a couple rustling noises, likely spiders in the insulation, but do take note: you are in nature, so be prepared for a little bit of "rustic living." That said, there really are no amenities missing, including the microwave and clean, empty refrigerator, cookies, towels, corkscrew, yoga books, Dr. Bronner's soap, and fresh fruit.
The location is quiet and isolated except for noise from the road. But, road access makes this location extremely convenient to Carmel Valley and the various (awesome) wineries that all have their tasting rooms co-located there. Monterrey, Carmel, 17-Mile Drive, and Pebble Beach are also all sub-30-minute drives, which is awesome. Try Lokal for superb local food--it's going to blow up soon, I promise.
Conclusion: quaint, adorable, rustic, homey.
The hosts were great. We were served fresh lemonade and delicious cookies. Full kitchen. Great location. Easy to get to Carmel, Big Sur, Santa Cruz, etc...
