Casa Coco is a large luxury villa, located in a safe community, just steps away from the best beach in the Dominican Republic.
We recently completed a luxury renovation (updated pictures coming soon).
The Los Nómadas luxury gated community offers seclusion, serenity, and security, right on the best stretch of famous Cosón beach, listed at the top of International Living's list of the top 10 beaches in the Caribbean (see excerpt below). Los Nómadas is a 10 minute drive away from Las Terrenas town, where you will find everything from a salsa dancing school to hair salons, shops, cafes, banks, etc. Las Terrenas has lots to offer in the way of restaurants and bars, including a wide array of fine dining like the 'Fisherman's Village' with a row of restaurants directly in front of the beach. Las Terrenas is always lively with the feel of a genuine Dominican town. If you need anything from town, like fresh fish from the daily fisherman's market, our motorcycle messenger can get it for you all for a few dollars. Los Nomadas is so safe (it is guarded at all times), people routinely leave their doors open when going to the beach, which is a rarity you will not find elsewhere in the Dominican Republic. No need to take a wallet or shoes or to lock-up the house, just walk right to the beach along a small pathway.
A newly built airport (El Catey, code: AZS) is only 20 minutes from the house, offering direct flights from New York (JetBlue) on Wed and Sat, as well as WestJet service from Canada. Or fly into Santo Domingo, 2 hours away on the new toll road. We can arrange transportation for you.
50 meters from Casa Coco lies idyllic Coson beach, awarded the 'Blue Flag Beach' designation by the Blue Flag nonprofit environmental group. This designation is given to only those beaches with exceptional water quality, environmental management, and safety and services. The beach has sections of perfectly calm water -- perfect for children -- and areas with small waves. Coson is exceptionally peaceful, with very little development apart from Nomadas and the small hotel next door. A long walk down the beach (or short car ride) takes you to a surfing haven with a famous local seafood restaurant and bar ('Luis') right on the sand of a near-deserted section of the beach.
Here's what International Living magazine wrote about Coson beach:
Perhaps the Caribbean’s best-kept secret, the once-sleepy fishing village of Las Terrenas is becoming one of the hottest spots for vacation homes in the Caribbean for those in-the-know. Some are even calling it the San Tropez of the Caribbean. The Dominican Republic boasts some of the best beaches in the world and Las Terrenas and the Samana Peninsula have the best of the best, including Coson Beach, or Playa Coson, a long, luscious stretch of untouched sand dotted with gently leaning palms. Besides beautiful beaches, Las Terrenas entertains with an eclectic mix of international restaurants and shops and outdoor pursuits from fishing and diving to hiking and whale watching.
Casa Coco is a large luxury villa, situated on a 17,500 square foot lot of lush tropical vegetation. With 5 spacious, air-conditioned bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, plus a separate bungalow with 4 beds on two levels and 1 bathroom, Casa Coco can accommodate a large group (16 people maximum), but feels private and cozy. It is exceptionally well located: 50 meters from the beach, in the safe and secluded Los Nómadas community. Casa Coco is in the 'second row', with just one house between the property and the beach. Casa Coco is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, giving a sense of privacy. The main house, recently renovated, consists of three bedrooms downstairs, each with their own bathroom. Upstairs is a large master bedroom suite with a spa-like bathroom and a private balcony. Next to the master suite is a "kids suite" with four twin beds, a TV, and a full bathroom. All beds, other than the kids suite, are larger than King-sized, measuring 80' x 80'. All linens are high-quality, imported from Europe.
A large living room / dining room is connected to a semi-open large kitchen. A wrap-around cane roof veranda overlooks a lovely swimming pool with a shallow area for kids, a Jacuzzi, a large deck, and the tropical garden.
A separate Bungalow on the other side of the pool has a king bed downstairs as well as a mezzanine sleeping area – perfect for a family. The bungalow has its own bathroom and a mini-fridge and coffee maker.
AMENITIES AND SERVICES: The main house includes air conditining in all bedrooms, flatscreen TVs, a full kitchen, outdoor gas bar-b-que grill, a foosball table, a ping pong table, WiFi, Chromecast, DVD player, and hundreds of movies for kids and adults, most with subtitles. We also have toys and games for kids, guide books, etc.
There is a small luxury hotel 70 meters down the beach, where you can have a great meal (or take their free delivery), a (email hidden), use their enormous kid-friendly pool, deck chairs, fitness center, and all of their facilities. Full access to the hotel’s facilities is included in your rental of the villa.
There are many excursions that can be arranged, including snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, deep-sea fishing, horseback riding (on the beach if you like), windsurfing, kite surfing, ecotours to rain forests, waterfalls, bird and whale watching. Tour operators will come to the villa to meet with you. Our full-time manager speaks five languages and is always available to help with anything you need, including arranging services, excursions, or transportation.
A car is recommended, but not required – a man on a moped will fetch anything you need from town for a few dollars.
A babysitter, masseuse, or private chef can be arranged for very little cost. One or two housekeepers (depending on the size of your group) are at the villa every day. In addition to cleaning, they will cook you breakfast (you provide the food). Linens are changed twice a week. Our services can be customized to meet your needs.

Other Things to Note
Please note that air conditioning is separately metered and paid by the guests on departure. This is common to all the houses in the area. The idea is just to discourage guests from leaving the air conditioner on all day long, with the windows and doors wide open, while they are at the beach (yes, this does happen). Electricity is expensive in the area, but the air conditioning will not cost too much if you use it normally.
Smoking is allowed only in the common areas since these are open-plan and breezy.
Pets allowed only with prior permission.
A daily cleaning service is included. For large parties, an extra cook is provided for breakfast and cleanup.
Our local manager can arrange other services, such as a private chef, excursions, etc.
This is a truly amazing place - so private, safe and comfortable. Its the perfect vacation spot with friends/family and you completely shed any vestige of worries/stress immediately. Steps from the beach and the great little condo/hotel complex.
Excellent service from the local management company - they are attentive and cool and fun to hang out with. I would recommend this place 100 times over (and already have!).
La descripción era bastante exacta. El servicio fue muy bueno y no tuvimos problemas de ningún tipo.
La casa es excelente y todos los servicios funcionaban de maravilla.
The house was even better than the pictures or the listing. It's a very tastefully done house. My friends and I absolutely loved the place. The owners (in Brooklyn) and staff (local) were extremely helpful. The weekend would not have been the same without them!
The house is comfy and fantastic. The A/C had to get manually turned on by flipping some sort of switch, so you might want to arrange for this to happen in advance, as we were without A/C for the first night.
The villa, which has two queen beds in it, is great, but there is basically no privacy between the bathroom and the bedrooms. So just be mindful of that. We put 4 girls in there and it was fine. But if it were two couples, things might be weird.
The beach was absolutely gorgeous and super close to the house. Even closer than the pics make it out to be.
Thanks Ryan. We enjoyed having you. Just a note on your comment about privacy in the "villa". I think you mean the "bungalow" - as described in the listing, this is a separate structure to the main house, and yeah, it has two queen beds and has only a half-wall between the bathroom and the rest of the bungalow. We are in the middle of a renovation, and this is one of the things we are changing: there will be a full wall for complete privacy in the bathroom. Thanks!
Casa Coco was amazing. The pictures are exactly what you get. The house is close enough to the ocean to wake up and hear the waves and not a far drive from the town of Las Terrenas to do some shopping. Our stay was fantastic and we can't wait to go back.
The house and location was beautiful. it was exactly like the pictures and we had an amazing time. We went with a large group of 10 adults and 5 toddlers and the set up was perfect. We had someone cook dinner for us every night and everything was great.
Excellent location, excellent host, very good pool area. The beach is also very good, ill definitely come back soon.
La casa es espectacular, muy bien ubicada, espaciosa, limpia, fresca y agradable. Apetece un montón estar ahí. la recomiendo, con los ojos cerrados y volvería en cualquier momento.
This is truly a relaxing place. It is kinda hard to get to, but I was set up with Michael who drove his little moped in front of us to show us the way. The house is perfectly clean, smells fresh, very well put together. There are two "houses": one is the main house (seen in the pictures) which has 1 master suite upstairs and 3 large bedrooms downstairs. There is a smaller "bungalow" which has one bedroom upstairs and one downstairs. We were a crew of 9 and had plenty of room. There is one swimming pool (too small to swim laps, I doubt you'll go there to swim laps, really) and a fully functional hot tub. The kitchen space is enormous and so is the dining room area. They also have a nice living area with a flat screen TV and access to netflix and youtube, this was great for my 12 y/o nephew who essentially went from the swimming pool to the movies non-stop. The beach is about 100 yards away from the house. it is a lovely, pretty-much-to-yourself beach. The hotel nearby allows you to use their restaurant, chairs and their canopies if you want to stay away from the sun. It is a 20-30 minute drive to the Fisherman's Town in Las Terrenas where you can go to little restaurants and do all kinds of water sports and rent ATVs, enduro bikes, MTBs or whatever you want. All in all, I highly recommend this place. The only negative is that they charge you separately to use the houses' A/C units. We used them only at night and it cost less than 30 dollars.
Thanks Leandro for the great review. I wanted to comment on the air conditioning policy so other guests would be aware. This is also described in our listing policy: The idea behind charging for the air conditioning is not to get a few extra dollars from the guests...it's really meant to discourage people from leaving the air conditioning on all day long with the windows and doors wide open while the guests are at the beach. Believe it or not, some guests do this. Electricity is provided by a private company there, and is very expensive. This is why all the houses in the area meter the air conditioning separately. But as you say, if you use the air conditioning in a normal way, the charge is not very much.

Hello, Claudia and Leo live in Brooklyn in an historic brownstone mansion, once home to the Mayor of Brooklyn. We have two children, aged 5 and 7. We live on the bottom two floors and rent / airBnB the top two. We have backpacked all over the world (when we were younger) and still love to travel, to meet fellow travelers, and to share our love of all things Brooklyn and New York. We look forward to meeting you!
