Lyon, the ancient city to the modern city
Lyon was founded by the Romans in 43 BC, it was then called Lugdunum . The first Roman colonies settled on the Fourvière hill . Due to its strategic position , Lugdunum grew rapidly and became the capital of Gaul , a position it retained for nearly three centuries. In the Middle Ages , the city developed on both banks of the Saône .

This period is considered to be a prosperous period for the city, as it became one of the commercial epicenter of the most influential in Europe. However, the eastern bank of the Rhone was not urbanized before the eighteenth century, when the marshes were drained to allow construction .
The last century saw the modernization of Lyon and its transformation into a leading metropolis , a modernity which is expressed primarily by the construction of the business district of La Part -Dieu .

Lyon and bouchons
Lyon attracts visitors for many and varied reasons, but it is something that makes everyone agrees, is the reputation of its cuisine!
On the Peninsula , in the city center or the historic center, it is not the restaurants that abound. Among all these attractive places , there is a specialty not to be missed : the famous Lyonnais Bouchons .
A true plug is recognized for its traditional setting , atmosphere invariably friendly and checkered tablecloths ... In short, we try to stay true and authentic !
And this is true on the map : the great classics of Lyon cuisine always have their place, and offset by the simplicity unique ability to fill stomachs ... Those who do not stand a real sated Bouchon Lyonnais have gargantuan appetite !
Among the classics à la carte we note the following : Lyon salad, meats of all kinds, the sausages , black pudding , the apron of sapper , dumplings , the tripe , brains weaver ...
The menu includes starter, main course , cheese and dessert, that is watered copiously Côtes du Rhône or Beaujolais ... It is therefore not in half measures with plugs Lyon: come and try a fine dining experience in itself!

For me airbnb is not just about the accommodation but about the amazing people associated with the accommodation who can provide you with the inside knowledge of the place you are visiting. Jean-Philippe is truly one of the most amazing hosts I have encountered. First the apartment was clean and had everything you could want - even nespresso pods for the machine!! The hot weather did provide a bit of a challenge as there is no air conditioning but the ceiling fans do help. But the information provided was invaluable. Jean-Philippe met us and after showing us the apartment asked what we were in Lyon to do and see and then sat with us making notes all over the city map..names of restaurants, bars, cafés, patisseries, bouchons, sights... And every recommendation we tried was perfect. Thank you Jean-Philippe for making our stay absolutely memorable.
On A adoré merci Jean Philippe.
Jean-Philippe was a great host. He was waiting for my wife & me, & helped us with our heavy suitcases. When he learned that we had interests beyond the usual tourist sites, he spent more than half an hour answering our questions and proudly explaining various aspects of his wonderful city. As a result, our 5-day visit to Lyon included areas outside the beaten track & was memorable. Jean-Philippe's apartment is also a joy, in an 18th century building converted into a modern, comfortable, well-equipped, & immaculate living space. It's location is superb, in the heart of traditional Lyon, literally less than 100 meters from the Hotel de Ville, the opera house, a Metro station, & a bicycle rental. The major sites, shopping, & innumerable restaurants are all within comfortable walking distance. Disadvantages: the apartment is not for those with a weak heart, as 3 flights of stairs are needed to reach it & the elevator is apparently not available to guests; the washing machine is excellent but does does not have a dryer. My wife & I loved Lyon & would certainly want to rent Jean-Phillipe's apartment again if we return to this great city.
Pete and I had a fabulous stay in Jean-Phillips apartment.
Whist he was not able to meet us at the apartment he organised two friends who met us and showed us the ropes.
Communication was fantastic - always the most important factor for us both when we stay in an AirBnb location and have guests stay in ours in Australia.
We loved Lyon and the location of the apartment was quite simply stunning - right in the heart of the City with everything at the doorstep.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.
As many other reviews have said.. Great apartment and (email hidden)an-Philippe always responded promptly to texts. He met me on arrival and spent time outlining on a map all the things I was interested in, way beyond just handing over a key!
Many thanks Jean-Philippe!
