Our well equipped funky apartment in ASAKUSA/SUMIDA puts you right in the middle of one of the last traditional neighborhoods in Tokyo. A short stroll to Asakusa, Tokyo Skytree and the very convenient Asakusa subway station.
If you are looking for a perfectly located self-contained apartment in the central yet easy/friendly neighborhood of real Tokyo, you don't need to look any further! The Apartment is in the middle of happening Asakua, One of the Tokyo’s most famous Shita Machi’s (traditional centers). Asakusa boasts some of the most traditional areas of Tokyo but also sits amongst the modern metropolis of central Tokyo.
Asakusa has historically been protected by the government to retain its atmosphere so as to showcase traditional Japanese craftsmanship and culture. The area is seen as a museum of all things Japanese(typically Tokyo) with an amazing variety of restaurants(eg. the best and most inexpensive sushi joints, the oldest Sukiyaki parlor in Tokyo , the first western restaurant in Japan, etc), shops(a 100 year old hand made knife shop, a 120 year old rice cracker shop, etc etc), and attractions(Sumida River Cruise, Hanayashiki Amusement Park, Sensoji Temple, Nakamise Shopping Arcade, and the latest, Tokyo Sky Tree, all in the neighborhood of the apartment.
The apartment is within an easy walking distance to the stations of all 4 train lines coming into the area, which offer our guests an easy/direct access to major destinations in central Tokyo including Shibuya, Shinjuku, Roppongi, Ueno and Ginza.
This will be the perfect base for you to explore the amazing Tokyo metropolis from, while living among a friendly and easy neighborhood, experiencing real Japanese life and interacting with genuine local people. Asakusa also has direct train access to both international airports in Tokyo; Narita and Haneda., which makes your arrival to Retro Tokyo a very easy one.
Apart from this fantastic traditional neighbor hood. Tokyo Skytree is only a short walk away as is Sensoji temple and the Asakusa Neighborhood.
Interaction with Guests
Once you are at the apartment we leave you alone to enjoy this fantastic city. Our manager lives a short way away and is available;e by our house phone should you have any questions or issues
Our neighbor hood as been heritage listed by the government as a shita machi. It is one of the old neighborhoods of Tokyo that retains much of it';s old culture. You will find many traditional restaurants shops and locals that have been here for generations
Asakusa is our nearest train station that has excellent connections to both airports and around to the major attractions of Tokyo. be sure to spend at least one day in the neighbourhood. Another great way to see the neighborhood is to catch one of the many rickshaws that ply the streets.
Other Things to Note
For getting around Tokyo we also have available for hire a pocket wifi to go with any smart phone you may have.

NO SHOES INSIDE THE HOUSE!!
Needless to say, all properties in Japan have no shoes policy. Violating this rule would be also subject to extra charges in order to get a professional cleaner in or repair the damage done on the floor.
Retro Tokyo was perfect for our party of 3 guests and by Japanese standards - spacious enough that we didn't feel like we were in each other's space. A great location away from the hustle and bustle which was a nice escape. Retro Tokyo's hosts were welcoming and nothing was too much (so much so that Marek personally delivered the pocket wifi at late notice) which came in very handy when exploring the city. Thank you for hosting us, we will definitely be returning to Japan. The description provided to locate the apartment was PERFECT and greatly appreciated!
Absolutely loved our stay at Retro Tokyo! The apartment was fantastic, so close to Asakusa Station, so close to Senso-Ji Temple. Easy to get around Tokyo from the apartment. Retro Tokyo had everything we needed, and made our stay in Tokyo even more amazing! We would definitely stay at Retro Tokyo again!
It was our second time in the Retro Apartment, and it was great! As soon as we entered the apartment it felt like coming "home". We recommend this apartment to everyone who's going to travel to tokyo!
Excellent communication from start to finish. The location is great being close to Asakusa, it's very easy to get around. I would stay here again without hesitation. Thanks Ben and Marek for such a nice experience
We enjoyed our stay at Retro Tokyo. The apartment was clean and comfortable and in a good location. It was nice to stay in a more residential neighborhood, with the busy-ness of Asakusa just across the bridge. Great having a bakery and 24/7 convenience store right across the street! The konbini also handles luggage delivery service if you want to send suitcases ahead to your next destination. Washing machine in the apartment was handy, but a bit tricky. And because you are in an apartment, not a hotel, you must remember to sort out your trash and leave it outside on the right day.
Overall, this is an excellent, reasonably-priced place to stay, with more space than an average Tokyo hotel room. Ben was very responsive to emails, and patient with all my questions.
