Stay at one of the most unique and stunning vacation rentals in the Smoky Mountains! The "Appalachian Container Cabin" is a modern tiny home with an unparalleled view overlooking the Appalachian Trail, built out of shipping containers, and was recently featured on the new HGTV/DIY show "Containables". The cabin is located at the end of private road deep within the Nantahala National Forest, but located conveniently between Franklin, North Carolina and Clayton, Georgia.

The space
The interior of this modern cabin is thoughtfully designed and includes one queen bed and three bunk beds. It's well designed for a couple with small kids. If you have more than one couple, the sleeping space will be the limiting factor. An additional person could sleep comfortably on the couch or you could camp outside on the deck or by the firepit.

The View - There are a lot of beautiful places in the Appalachian mountains, but one of the most amazing views is just out your back door. You can watch a thunderstorm roll through over the Appalachian trail in the distance, enjoy a blazing sunset after dinner, gaze at the Milky Way and brilliant stars at night, roast marshmallows by the fire or enjoy a hike through our 100 year hardwood forest on top of our mountain.

Guest access
Guests have access to the top 40' container and all outdoor deck space. Guests do not have access to the two bottom 20' containers.

Other things to note
We now have high speed internet, thank you Starlink!

The kitchen has the following amenities: Microwave, Toaster Oven, Keurig Coffee Maker, Regular Coffee Maker, Assorted Pots and Pans, 2 Burner Electric Cooktop Stove, Dishwasher, and a Full Size Refrigerator. The kitchen does not have an Oven. We have a Blue Rhino Razor Black 4-Burner Liquid Propane Gas Griddle Grill which is perfect for cooking up breakfast or dinner on the deck.

A detailed cabin guide will be provided the week of your stay. It includes directions to the cabin as well as a recommendations on where to eat, adventures to check out and ideas on where to shop.

Neighborhood highlights

Everything you need is close by - including grocery stores, farmers markets, great restaurants such as the Dillard House, and micro-breweries such as Lazy Hiker. If you are here to hike, check out Pickens Nose or Albert Mountain. The Pickens Nose trailhead is only an 8.1 mile drive from the cabin.

If you are looking for a nearby adventure, explore Black Rock Mountain State Park, Tallulah Gorge State Park or a waterfall. There are 7 waterfalls within a 45 minutes drive from our cabin to explore! We recommend Dry Falls, Bridal Falls and Big Laurel Falls.

After you are done hiking and visiting waterfalls, check out the Lazy Hiker Brewery. It’s one of our favorite spots around to grab a drink, catch up with friends and meet locals. All the beers are named after famous hikes around the area.

For food, there are a lot of Farmers Markets nearby, but our favorite is Osage Farms. Try some Georgia Peaches or get the Apple Cinnamon Donuts (you have to get there early for them, they sell out quick).

Finally, if you are interested in shopping, check out Culpepper's Otto Depot. You’ll see this huge train depot building about 2 miles from our cabin. It’s a unique architectural salvage business and definitely worth stopping in to.
