  • We had a very good time at Cathy's Studio in Kona.
The Studio is well situated, near Kailua-Kona and the beach (Kahalu'u Bay is fantastic for snorkeling and take your first Surf lesson!)
Having a car in Big Island is a must and from the Studio we could easily drive to everywhere. (Easy parking just in front of the house).
Listening to the waves at night when everything is quiet was a pleasure.
The bed is really comfortable. We had breakfast at the Studio looking at the sea (coffee from Kona for sure!) and then we were out the whole day visiting (thanks for the maps and guides) and had dinner elsewhere. That was good while the kitchen is really small and I think you can't really cook there...
We didn't meet Cathy but a friend of her was at the Studio to give us the keys and explain everything. Thanks Diane!
We would recommend this place to stay!

  • The Magic Sands Beach Studio was a very convenient place to stay. Just a short walk to a beach and a very good restaurant. Also a short drive into Kona. The studio was very clean and Cathy provided everything we needed to make our stay more comfortable. It was nice meeting Cathy, she gave some great suggestions for places to eat.

  • The place was awesome! Close to everything, quiet street, over all great location! I would definitely go back!! Cathy was a very gracious host, had privacy the whole time, felt like I was at home.

  • We had the pleasure of staying at Cathy's studio at Magic Sands for an entire month. The apartment was spacious enough for two, and was well equipped for our needs. Cathy is a total sweetheart--very helpful and attentive.

The best part of the apartment has got to be the view! Killer sunsets every night including one evening where the misty sky changed colors as you moved around. You can really feel the spirit of the island in the surrounding La'aloa area. Tis a very special feeling.

The apartment itself is very private and has its own separate entrance. We were without a car for the second half of the month, so we took the bus into town a lot. It comes at the top of every hour generally and is about a 10 minute ride into town and 8 min the other way to Keauhou Shopping center which is otherwise a 25 min walk away. Kahalu'u beach has awesome snorkeling and Magic Sands is beautiful, scenic and contemplative.

The bed was huge and was very comfortable and supportive. The kitchenette is stocked with plates and utensils. The bathroom had amazingly hot water and great pressure. Lots and lots of towels! The kitchenette freezer isn't too great for ice cream, but this was of no issue as I tend to finish things off immediately. :D

For those planning of staying long-term, I highly recommend having a car. Drive to Teshima's where I had the best fried rice omelet of my life!

Overal the apartment was well-appointed and offered an amazing setting. Cathy is a gracious host! I will fondly remember our time in beautiful Kailua-Kona. <3

  • Cathy's studio was perfect for our family stay for 4 days. We could hear the sound of the waves as we fell asleep to the ocean breeze and looked out on the ocean as we woke up. The apartment was perfectly clean and well appointed with linens, towels, spare toiletries, kitchen supplies, and even a bit of food and Kona coffee to enjoy. Cathy was warm, hospitable and very attentive.

Highly recommend this apartment and we plan to visit again!

  • We very much enjoyed our stay in Cathy's ocean view apartment in Kona. The king bed was comfortable, the apartment was clean and spacious and the location was very close to Magic Sands beach. Cathy is a gracious hostess and we will surely return on our next trip to Kona.

  • Very conveniently located and close to Magic Sands for some surfing and Kahaluu Beach Park for easy access snorkeling. Cathy was a great host.

  • Cathy was a very friendly host. Her studio is quiet and cozy with convenient on-site parking. Everything you need in the area is easily accessible by car (including a nearby weekend farmers' market), with the most touristy section of Kona being a 5-10 minute drive. The beach is a little far by foot, but you really do need a car to get around anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

  • Cathy was a wonderful host and the studio is in the perfect location. We really enjoyed our stay.
