We spent two nights with Magdalena, her old black dog, her little black and white cat, and her turtle who lives on the balcony, in her 200 year old apartment. You have to be the kind of person who appreciates the charms and quirks of such an old place; 4 different keys to get in, the heavy iron front door, steep marble steps, patterned tile, tall wooden doors that don't exactly fit in their frames, and very high ceilings. Our room was fine. You did have to stand on the table to turn on the air conditioner, but it worked once on. The bath is down the hall, with a couple of steps. Tip: bring a flashlight for nighttime trips to the bathroom. Magdalena was sweet, warm and helpful. She made us breakfast one day with great home made bread, marmalade, local honey and good coffee. The location is right in the middle of San Telmo; step out the door and it's one block to Plaza Dorrego. Since we like the patina of age and are in good condition this was a good fit for us.
We received a very warm welcome by Magdalena and ofcourse Lola her lovely dog and other pets. The room was homely and spacious. Magdalena makes you feel at home and is very helpful in giving directions to interesting spots to visit in the city. The apartment is very well positioned in San Telmo, one of the nicer areas in town I think. Magdalena is also talkative and you can talk about almost anything over a mate at any time of the day. If you are in for a homestay, highly recommended.
I stayed with Magda for one week while taking Spanish classes at a nearby language school (El Pasaje, a 20 min walk from the apt). Magda was a wonderful host as were her three pets - Lola the dog, Poncho the cat, and Carolita the friendly turtle. Magda's apartment is spacious, eclectic and homey. I enjoyed the fresh baked bread, morning coffee, and conversations with Magda who was extremely tolerant of my limited Spanish. A great choice for someone (especially a woman traveling solo) looking for a safe and comfortable home base in Buenos Aires.
Magda was such a wonderful host! She made me feel very welcome and was happy to help with anything I needed. The house is beautiful and the pets are adorable and Magda's homemade bread just delicious! The location was also perfect, San Telmo is beautiful and close to everything, shops, markets, restaurants!
Magdalena is a warm, accomplished host, welcoming me to Argentina with tea and conversation, taking the time to help me settle into my trip. I got the feeling that nothing was too much trouble, whether it be tips, arrangements or just taking the time to chat. Magdalena's home is very comfortable and from this location I was able to explore San Telmo and the centre of town. I recommend this stay.
The reservation was canceled 4 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Magdalena is a gorgeous and welcoming person, and allows you to feel immediately at home in her apartment. The apartment is large, very comfortable and extremely well situated to take advantage of the best the Buenos Aires has to offer, as it is in the best part of one of the trendiest areas of the city.
San Telmo has emerged as one of he hippest parts of BA with large markets starting just around the corner from Magdalena’s apartment, every Sunday, and many cafes restaurants and bars to explore – not to mention excellent boutique shopping. Magdalena’s place is an easy walk to the CBD and is right next to the “old” part of town (La Boca), and the “new” part of town (the very modern and luxurious Puerto Madero).
Magdalena has a very friendly Labrador dog, and a reasonably friendly cat, so you will need to be OK with pets. The apartment has a very homely feel, and Magdalena is a wonderful host who while very busy with her work, is always happy to chat with you and make very savvy recommendations as to what to see and do in Buenos Aires.
If I spend any more time in BA during this trip, I would be happy to stay with Magdalena again!
