Its dIFeReNt!! What can I say - become immersed in a creative and inspiring space that will hopefully touch your soul in more than one way! Aesthetic, worldly, cosy, comfortable, alive, colorful, private, convivial, joyful, regenerative. Come play!
Views of Agua Volcano are the guardians of your restful time in this room - as they are watching your back whilst you sleep. This ample room is one of 5 bedrooms for rent in our mystical and inspirational house. Separate by a ceiling to floor thick curtain is the office space, which you will have access to, as a perk of using this room [this may be shared during daytime with myself if I am in residence - however I will check-in with you before using the office so as to give you the privacy you need]. This ample bedroom space has its own awesome en-suite bathroom. Hot water with full-pressure shower, toilet and decorated porcelain wash basin. The wooden bathroom floor boards let the shower water fall through into the hidden drain system underneath....a feel of beach cabana still showers.....and windows in the shower looking out onto the stairways to heaven....i.e the rooftop space
I invite you into my "space of spaces" -- welcome to a house with a many "corners" and spaces to spend time in -- be it reading one of our library books, checking your email on your laptop, taking your yoga practice or having a conversation with me, your traveling companion or other guests or friends. The intention is to offer you a safe retreat space where you can find both time and space for yourself, as well as inspiration from the space the house creates and the conversations to be had.
I very much welcome medium and longer term guests also.
Ample!... With many small universes within the whole, each carrying it's own inspiring energy. To evoke but a few of the "feelings" around the house:
- Garden aesthetic, green, colorful, tropical, healing, culinary.
- Spiritual room symbolism, colors, chakras, energy, 5 elements, peacefulness, light & darkness, candles & incense
- Library inspiring, fiction, healing, reality, beauty, humanity, living, serenity
-Moroccan lounge travel, exotic, romanticism, music, informal connections, bohemian, evenings in good company, escape to another world
-Front porch rocking chairs, candles, garden views, sheltered, outside, glass of wine, conversations, scents of the night, read a book
-Outdoor lounge BBQ, another space, fish pond, plants, mural, bamboo wall, jasmin
-Kitchen heart of the house, social hub, good coffee grown 5 minutes away, home cooking, quality ingredients, slow food, imagination is the limit
So welcome!.... Mi casa es tu casa! I look forward to meeting you.
You will experience a retreat-like space here! You may even get a change to have a Temascal if I am firing it up (Traditional Mayan Sauna). Garden Breakfast are a common occurrence, and rooftop morning coffee soaking in the view of the volcanoes, dissipating mist as the sun rises above the hills.
You will have access to the whole house. The exceptions are: other bedrooms (obvious.... But there it is (;-) ) and the office (unless invited).
Interaction with Guests
You will usually be hosted at the house when I am in residence. So chances to interact are pretty high. We are likely to share breakfast or some of our meals together, maybe cook and enjoy a glass of wine together. Its up to your mood, mine too...and the magic of the flow (:-)
The neighborhood is Antigua-like (cobbled stone street) yet 1.5 miles out of town center (less than 1 mile from the edge of town). It is very quiet around here - hearing countryside like night critters, roosters, different owls sometimes. No mainroad pass within hearing distance.
I would definitely encourage you to visit some of the neighboring colonial village around Antigua. Maybe we'll take a trip there together. They are so much more low key than Antigua... One almost gets a feeling of a forgotten era of Spanish colonialism when walking around some of the old main squares with pristine churches [... well sometimes crumbling... But still...]
I offer use of a 1 mountain bike, and will offer you a ride if I happen to be driving into town. You can also walk to/from town (25mins), walk to the main road and take a chicken bus (5mins) or take a tuktuk back (a few minutes).
Other Things to Note
[there are 3 other rooms available should you find this one booked for your desired dates - check out our other listings. Also the house is available as a complete rental]
If you are on a trajectory that will take you to Lake ATITLAN, be sure to CHECK OUT my other listing EAGLE'S NEST located in San Marcos La Laguna - it will blow your HEART & MIND simultaneously ;-).
Its mostly common sense! Respect the space, its art and layout. Its a beautiful space where you may find lots of inspiration. I hope you make the most of it and enjoy the peacefulness beauty of the house. If you have any questions, ask Nancy the housekeeper, Jose the property manager or myself.
Attention SMOKERS: In order to respect my space and the possible desire for other guests to breath clean air, you are invited to smoke anywhere outside (rooftop terrace, entrance porch with rocking chairs or any of the garden space)
Even tough I didn't get to complete my stay for personal reasons, Greg and JB responded quick to my request, paying careful attention for the details regarding my stay. I recommend this place and of course the host!
I had a great experience staying at Greg's. He is an excellent host and attracts a nice group of people - I met several new friends during the month that I stayed there. Nancy, the lady who works at the house, is wonderful, too. Additionally, I appreciated the peace and quiet of the neighborhood, the greenery, the fabulous views from the roof deck, and the reliably fast internet.
Greg's place is beautiful! Every part of the house is very artistically done, just like the pictures show. My (volcano) room was spacious enough and comfortable, with an ensuite bathroom. It's separated from the office by only a curtain, but I could lock the office from inside while sleeping. There are lots of little corners to hang out in, but my favorite was the rooftop with a hammock and a view of the neighborhood and the mountains.
It's a 20 minute walk to the main town where all the restos are - I had to walk back after dark once and it was alright. It was easy to hail a chicken bus from the main road into town for 1Q as well. I arrived late on my first night and was lucky that the other guest in the house had cooked some food to offer me; it might be worthwhile stopping in town or in Guatemala city if you're arriving late. I borrowed the bicycle to explore the surrounding neighborhoods and loved how quaint it all was. I could easily have spent more time in Antigua!
The only thing I missed was interacting with someone who had lived in Guatemala a while and could suggest authentic eateries and biking routes. I'm sure that would've been sorted if Greg was around.
Overall, I liked having my own place to come back to, far from the bustle of el centro. Recommended :)
Mon séjour à Antigua a répondu à toutes mes attentes.
The house and gardens where as advertised. Clean, comfortable, open. Greg is a wonderful, capable host, all my needs where met transport to and from house.
This villa was exactly what we needed for our trip to Antigua. The house met all our expectations and Greg was very accommodating, and everything was laid out just as the pictures showed. It can get a bit cold in Antigua, so carry a sweater and if you like to walk around barefooted bring socks! The incorporation of natural light into the design of the house, is a real treat as well as the smart features of the house makes this villa very eco-friendly!
I loved staying at Greg's. His home is a very quiet and magical place. Every corner is filled with either an inspirational or beautiful detail. You can perceive that he designed all spaces with souvenirs from his travels and local handcrafts from Guatemala.
The kitchen is amazingly equipped with everything a chef needs or even us ordinary good eaters. The freedom of how he opens his home to guests makes you feel as if you were at your own place.
I hope I can come back soon or Antigua won't be the same if I don't stay there or stop by to say hello. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet him, which would have been a pleasure. I did meet a lovely family from El Salvador which I now consider good friends.
