I had an amazing time during my stay at the second floor room with private bathroom and balcony for one week on a solo trip. I highly recommend this place to anyone, especially solo travelers, as I not only loved my independence but also met some amazing housemates who became new friends. Communication before arrival was prompt. Room was immaculate upon arrival. Simple furniture and decor but everything was very functional: Tall ceiling, spacious bathroom and hot/strong shower (spa-like stone lined, with handle for stability). There is no AC as listed but two fans: ceiling and an industrial-size standing one, which were more than enough for me. Most nights I slept with no fans as the breeze through the windows kept the room cool. My favorite was the little balcony/deck right in front of my door: with a view of swaying foliage, sky and houses. It really felt like living as a local. A small kitchenette is tucked into the side of the balcony, perfect for making meals and sit at the little table eating while looking out, or morning coffees and sunset drinks and reading. I spent most of my time home on that balcony unless I'm sleeping. Manuel took me to get groceries upon arrival and also sold eggs and beers from the house at good price -- very convenient. Amazing location: 5 minute walk to one of the best beaches on the island, and buses that take you everywhere for only 2bbds. There is also a pretty garden downstairs with table and chairs where me and the other guests hung out at night.
A few things to note: get used to the bus system fast -- it will save you tons of money and is very efficient. Also, know that the second floor balcony is shared with the other side where the host stays. There is a wooden panel as a partial partition. Manuel was very considerate and never on the balcony when I was there, but if you want total privacy this is not it. Lastly -- make sure you ask Manuel to book you to go snorkling with Neville: extremely reasonable price and a GENUINELY NICE person and knowledgeable guide. He takes you out at 8:30am before all the tourists show up to snorkle with turtles and see shipwrecks. Takes his time. Make sure you have seen all you want. I went twice it was so good: first time by myself and second time with new housemates. We all loved it. This is a MUST DO.
