Interaction with Guests
I am retired so I am available to answer any questions you may have and am free to give you tours. Just pay the low cost taxi fares and buy me lunch and I will show you why I love this city so much.
My neighborhood is the safest with 24/7 guards. It has the best restaurants at the lowest prices. It is full of parks with views of hills dotted with Inca Ruins. It is just off of Ave. de la Cultura that gives you quick access by bus or taxi to the Plaza de Armas. Note: The closer you are to the Plaza de Armas the more expensive EVERYTHING is. Also you are constantly being sold something. In my neighborhood you are left alone and can relax.
Just two blocks off of Av. de la Cultura with bus stops and taxis everywhere. A taxi to plaza de armas costs $1.50 and takes 8 to 10 minutes. A bus costs 25 cents or 70 solis and takes 10 to fifteen minutes. You can walk to Inca Ruins in 30 minutes with no tourists or admission costs.
Other Things to Note
After living here for years there is no other place that I would rather be.
You will have your keys and can come and go as you please. If you cook just do your own dishes. No pets please. No smoking inside but you can smoke on the front porch.
It's hard to thank Richard enough. From the moment we arrived (earlier than expected) he made us feel at home. He took us on his tour of the city, pointing out lots of interesting things and taking us into buildings we would have missed alone. He took us on his tour to nearby ruins which are free to wander through (but that looks set to change - so go soon!). He told us about the good places to eat and helped us plan our trekking. In short he is the best host we have ever had on airbnb - a really good man with a kind heart and a beautiful home!
Richard was a teriffic host. My son and I stayed with him for a couple of nights before hiking the Inca trail. Richard went out of his way to help us prepare for the trip. He was even kind enough to hold our bags for us while we hiked the trail. Very pleasant guy, and very easy to get along with. The apartment was clean, quiet and comfortable. I would not hesitate to stay with him again.
P.S. The apartment is not right in the historic center, but everything you need is within walking distance. To take a cab into the center is very inexpensive and takes only 5-10 minutes.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay with Richard. He is a wonderful host and gave us plenty of information about hikes. We were planning to do a solo Salkantay trek and Richard was a wonderful resource. The highlight of our stay was a half day hike with Richard above Cusco. The room is big and bed is comfortable. He also had washer and dryer which we appreciated very much. The apartment is located near big mall and other grocery stores and inexpensive restaurants. It was great for us as we were able to find light and dry food for our trek. It was also nice to get away from all the tourists. I highly recommend staying with Richard.
Richard's apartment is the perfect choice: a quiet, safe neighborhood with Basilica, the best bakery in Cusco, just down the road for a terrific breakfast. The room is very large, with a large window looking out to hills of Cusco. There are innumerable good and reasonable places to eat within a few blocks.
Richard was more than the perfect host: upon arrival he took me to a dentist for an emergency dental problem. Over the course of ten wonderful days in Cusco, Richard made sure that I took in all the best with lots of suggestions for places to eat and things to see and do.
My Cusco experience was terrific, in no small part because of Richard's concern that his guests are always well taken care of.
Having heat in the room and hot showers and an impeccably clean place to stay makes this the perfect place for a great stay in Cusco.
this was my second stay at Richard's ....a total of ten days, which was just enough to see and do the main areas around Cusco: Pisac, Tipon, Ollanta and Machu Picchu for an overnight at Aguas Calientes
I have stayed in Richard's home for three days. The apartment is spotless when we arrived at late night. But Richard is so kind to pick up finally. The apartment is a bit far from downtown but if you take taxi , it is just 5 mins or less. The neighbourhood is safe. Richard is familiar with Cusco. He is so helpful to give us the route to travel Cusco. We have nice stay here:) Thanks Richard.
Richard has a very nice house in cusco. It's in a less touristy area but with easy taxi access to plaza de armas (about ten minutes). He was very helpful. He walked us to the store the first night and gave us advice on a lovely walking tour of cusco. We were in town for acclimation before starting the inca trail. Overall, it was a nice place to rest with good amenities and a very nice host!
About the Host, Richard
Retired in Cusco for three plus years after living in Costa Rica and Ecuador. I offer one half and full day hikes to neighborhood Inca Ruins and city tours that are included with stay. Knowledgeable of Inca history and night life options of eateries and music clubs. I once played in a local Rock and Blues band. My neighborhood has the best food at the lowest prices in Cusco. Stay with us and experience the best of Cusco at the lowest prices. A new mall is now open just a few blocks away that features an 8 plex movie theater just in case you get tired of hiking. Richard
