We spent three nights at Robert's place. Robert is a warm and welcoming host. The breakfast he provided us with each morning was delicious and set us up perfectly for our adventures in the city. He even serenaded us on the piano and the harpsichord as we got ready to go out! You couldn't ask for a better location from which to explore San Francisco. As for the accommodation - the bed was comfortable and we slept well. The room itself is a little on the cramped side but not such a problem as we didn't spend much time in it other than when sleeping. The only criticism we had was that there was a noticeable odour throughout, most likely from Robert's two cats. This might have been a deal breaker for us if we had been staying for a longer period. If a solution could be found for that, we would not hesitate to recommend staying at Robert's charming little house.
We very much enjoyed our stay with Robert. We found the location was perfect for us, smack bam in the middle of everywhere we wanted to go. We found we could walk most places. The bed was comfortable and we never had a problem using the shared bathroom when we needed to, so it felt like ours. The breakfasts were delicious each morning and it was great to chat with Robert, have a go on his harpsichord and meet his two lovely cats. Recommended.
Couldn't have chose a better place to stay in San Francisco. Roberts home is a far better alternative than anywhere downtown, the surrounding neighborhood is perfect for local bars and restaurants and is in a perfect location to travel around San Francisco. As for the room, it was incredibly comfortable, we only used it as a place to sleep, but everything was clean and tidy. Breakfast is a huge bonus, saved us a lot of money and was perfect fuel for our big days. And if your lucky Robert will even play you a goodbye song on his piano.
Robert made us feel very welcomed. He bought MUNI passes for us prior to our arrival, helped us figure out bus routes, made delicious breakfasts, even made a special trip to buy gluten-free bread, and generally was very friendly and helpful. The house is next to Haight Ashbury and Hayes St and the buses that go to Fisherman's Wharf.
We could not have asked for more from Robert as our first Air BnB host. He helped us find our way around the city as he prepared and ate breakfast with us (he is a great cook), helped us book a shuttle to the airport and was an easy-going, interesting and delightful person to talk to.
The location offers great access to the Castro and Mission districts, which to my mind are more interesting and characterful than uptown. The little house is in the stick style of old San Francisco. The room itself is on the ground floor at the front of the house and is perfectly comfortable. The bathroom is at the back of the house, but there's no need to creep about--Robert assured us we wouldn't wake him if we took showers at odd hours.
We really enjoyed our time in Robert's little yellow house and recommend him highly.
Based on reading previous comments we were expecting more from Robert initially than we got. However, in the end he warmed up and was very hospitable. He's just not comfortable socially.
The pluses were a B&B experience, location, Robert playing piano/Harpsichord.
The negative were cleanliness, smell of cat, noise level of traffic on Fell street, a bit far to walk/convenience to mass transit, no place to sit in privacy.
Sehr netter Gastgeber!
