Welcome to The Frenchmen House Green Room
Frenchmen House is my home. I share it with Molly (king of the feline world) and my airbnb guests.
Victorian-style 100+ year old house on Frenchmen Street -- home of the best collection of jazz clubs in New Orleans -- and still only blocks from the French Quarter.
The house retains the architectural details that make New Orleans homes interesting and beautiful -- 13 ft. ceilings, dormer windows, original wood floors, and double parlor with functioning pocket doors. Very few renovations have altered this original home, and its charm represents the homes of its era.
Great backyard for entertaining -- very private courtyard setting. Smoking is allowed in the backyard.
PARKING: Easy on street parking, no meters, no time restrictions and always spaces available on my block.
I now have three rooms listed, all with king-size beds -- one for the Red Room, one for the Rose Room, and now one for the Green Room. On the first page of each listing, there is a link to "my other listing," where you can look at the calendar and check availability for each room.
The house is a side-hall shotgun, so unlike a traditional shotgun, one does not have to walk thru each room to get to the next. The Red Room is separated from the Rose Room by large pocket doors, which may be opened when both rooms are rented together. Both rooms rented together create a very comfortable 2-room suite (traditional New Orleans double parlor).
The Rose Room is separated from the Green Room by a standard solid door, which also may be opened if both rooms are rented together. All adjoining-room-doors latch on both sides of each door for privacy. All entry doors to the rooms also latch from the inside for privacy.
To rent two or more rooms together, you simply book each room separately. Be sure to check the calendar for each room for its availability before booking the first room.
Each room is designed to accommodate two guests. If you book all three rooms, you may have additional guests at $10 per night per guest that exceeds six total guests.
Please know that it is never an issue leaving late and using the house on your departure day (leaving bags, hanging out, etc.) -- All I need is to start preparing the room for the next guest. You will never need to be out of the room before 11am. You can also arrive at the house early, even if your room isn't yet ready to check in.
The calendar for this listing reflects the availability of only the Green Room, so please also consult the Rose Room and/or Red Room listing if you are interested in booking two or more rooms (or just send me a message letting me know what you are looking for).
The regular nightly rate does not apply during certain events, such as Mardi Gras and JazzFest. See calendar for more details.
Guests have full access to all the common areas of the house -- the kitchen, living room, bath, and backyard.
The bath is shared.
I always try to meet you when you first arrive at the house. After that, you will have a code to the front door and can come and go as you please. If I can't meet you for some reason, I can forward your code to you before you arrive, and you can let yourself in and make yourself at home.
During your stay, I try to be available if you need me and invisible if you don't need me.
I love that my neighborhood is just far enough away from the hubbub to be (relatively) quiet and actually be able to park a car, yet close enough to be in the midst of it all with a very short walk.
There is a streetcar line that runs up the river from the end of Frenchmen to the Convention Center and also easy transfers to both the Canal Street line and the St. Charles Ave. line. There are also bus stops right on the corner.
We had a wonderful time at Jo's house on Frenchmen street. Its right off a main intersection and was very convenient for public transport. We returned really late at night and had no problems. The room was very welcoming and Jo even let us leave our (email hidden) till we caught our midnight bus. Overall a great experience and I would definitely recommend her place in NOLA!
Strongly recommended! Joann was a very nice and helpful host, and the room and accommodations were nice and spacious - even with a relaxing outdoor patio. The house is walkable to Marigny (awesome music clubs on Frenchman St.) and French Quarter. The neighborhood is kind of transitioning but don't let that worry you (just be cautious).
Very charming, clean and quiet. The neighborhood looks a little intimidating, maybe due to hearing so many warnings about how "dangerous" NOLA is, but we came and went at all hours of the day and night and never had a problem. A very quiet location and having a Walgreens around the corner came in handy.
The house was fully occupied during our stay but amazingly we only had to wait for the bathroom one time, and then only for a few minutes.
We had a wonderful stay at Jo's house!
We loved this place so much we came back for a second stay. Both rooms were great. See the previous post!
I had a wonderfully pleasant and peaceful time at Joanne's beautiful home on Frenchmen. The room is large and the king size bed is one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on. The Quarter is just a walk (or short cab ride) away, which means you can be close to the action, but still enjoy the peace and quiet of the neighborhood. Everything about the stay was effortless and easy and I would definitely stay here again!
I didn't actually get to meet Joanne as she was away at the time of the visit, but detailed instructions were communicated for my arrival and stay. The location of the house was fantastic. It is an easy walking distance from the jazz bars on Frenchmen Street and to the French Quarter. I was In New Orleans alone and felt quite safe walking to and from the accommodation at night on my own.
Stay here! The space is beautiful, very clean, quiet, and a great value. The bed is HUGE (a king, I think?) and amazingly comfortable. The neighborhood is safe and close to everything.
We only stayed one night but were very satisfied. The room was great and the house was tastefully decorated. It was a quick walk to the French Quarter and an even quicker one to a great breakfast place only a couple blocks away (ask Joanne). Easy in and out.
Joanne is an amazing host! I found the house and room lovely and very close to all of the many wonderful New Orleans attractions! I'll definitely recommend it
